Good Sunday morning! It’s that time of the week again, another JBWW Challenge. This week I have another Sketch Challenge for you. Remember that if you post your card to your Splitcoast Gallery, to use the keyword JBWW. But, either way if you post to your blog or your gallery, please come back and post a link to this entry or post on Jeanne’s blog, Inky Paws. Hope you enjoy this sketch today.

Boho Sketch

The set I used to make my sample today, is the new Boho Blossoms to be released by My Favorite Things on October 1. I stamped the flowers in Groovy Guava and cut them out so I could layer them on the smaller panel of River Rock Sand paper. I haven’t sewn all week, so I just couldn’t help myself – had to break out the sewing machine. Not only that, but I just so needed to do a little sponging along the edges of the Apple Cider paper. The centers of the flowers are made by sponging a bit of Groovy Guava on Whisper White and then stamping on the small elements from this set in Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. I punched them out using the ½” circle punch, mounting them on River Rock and then punching those out with a 3/4″ circle punch. The middle flower and all the centers are raised with mounting tape. The card measures 5.5 x 5.5.

Good Saturday morning! This week has gone so fast, I feel like I’ve lost a day somewhere. I have another Sneak Peek for you today! This time it’s Meet Me at the Café, another new set being released by My Favorite Things on October 1st. There are 5 sets being released and if you like them all, there is a great special for you. Take 5 for $65.00. If you get all five sets, you’ll also get free shipping!

Cafe Sneak Peak

The main image was stamped with Brilliance Graphite Black on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White and colored with Copic markers. The background was stamped with one of the small elements in the set in groups of 4 and the café awning was stamped on designer paper and then cut out. For added stability, the awning was then glued to a piece of Basic Grey cardstock, trimmed and raised on mounting tape.

Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the next JBWW Challenge!

When I was in my first year drawing class in college, one of our projects was to take an object and change it gradually over a series of six drawings. I remember having seen a photo in an art book, of an animal in a jungle. I can’t remember what I drew as an animal, but it eventually grew horns and the foliage grew over and around the animal. The drawing has been gone for many years now but every once in a while I remember it and how truly awful it was.

When I saw It’s a Jungle Out There one of the new October 1st releases from My Favorite Things, that old drawing immediately came to mind. I was talking with Jeanne on the phone one night and was telling her what I wanted to do with this set. During the conversation, Kittie’s name came up and I realized that I hadn’t even looked at the DD Gallery yet. I started to scan through the gallery and saw a Kittie card, with this set and very much like what I visualized. I remember exactly what I said to Jeanne on the phone – and it probably cannot be repeated here. I dropped the window, don’t think I left a comment even and have not been back to look at Kittie’s gallery since. I wanted to this card, without Kittie’s influence. So my dear, sweet friend – be flattered, great minds DO think alike!

It’s a Junge Out There Prerelease

The images are colored with Copic Markers, and the remaining scene is stamped with VersaMagic Chalk Inks. I messed up and didn’t paint the background first, so I sponged in color (ala Kittie) after the images were colored and the details were stamped. The background layer and the photo corners were stamped with the solid leaf image from the set.

How about a little sneak peek today? Yes! One of the new sets being released by My Favorite Things on October 1st is all about chocolate, sweets and ice cream – How Sweet It Is!

I colored this image with Copic Markers and had it sitting there on my counter, trying to decide what to do with it. Then I remembered the challenge recently for Jenn Balcer’s 2-5-7-10 box and a light bulb went off. I made this box larger, using an 8-1/2 x 12″ sheet of cardstock, added a ribbon handle and scored the top flap so that it would fold over the front of the box. I used Fiskars Scallop edged scissors to cut the panel around the image, but used the Fiskars Cloud edge scissors to cut the top flap. I think I am lovin’ these little boxes, and I have filled this one full of my new favorite snack, Almond Snickers! One other thing, I stamped the swirly flower image from Behind the Scenes on the box in Night of Navy ink, but don’t know how well you can see it in the photo. In real life, it gives the box a tiny bit of umpf!

Amidst all the comings and goings and phone calls this morning I found a little stamp time. Of course, I actually need plenty of stamp time and hope that I will have the rest of the afternoon. Well, at least until 4:00 – that’s when Reba comes on. Hopefully I’ll get one of those second winds today and be ready to hit the studio again around 8:00. Since I’ve had my week of back to basic stamping, I feel rejuvenated and ready to work.
I checked in on the Splitcoast Color Challenge last night before I went to bed, and had an idea in my head immediately. I had forgotten about it this morning and completely changed what I was going to do. I love this image of the Rural Mailbox from Northwoods Stamps and since I’ve done a back to basic card with watercoloring in reinkers, I decided to redo it with Copic Markers.

CC133

The image was stamped in Brilliance Graphite Black on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White and then colored with Copics. I picked up the Bashful Blue ink in the background by lightly watercoloring in a rough way, then went back over with a sponge dauber in a circular motion to blend the color. The image was mounted on Chocolate Chip (which isn’t part of the challenge today, but I so needed to use it) and then mounted on Old Olive. Using a wider piece of More Mustard, I made a half frame by making the photo corners and attaching them over the image to the back panel with brads. All of the edges were sponged with Tim Holtz Ranger Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. To add a little more oomph to the card, I cut a piece of Old Olive just slightly smaller that the card (which is 5.5 square) and stamped Linen in Old Olive. The edges were also sponged in the Distress Ink. Ribbon is wrapped around the bottom panel and the bow is attached to the side of the main image with Hodgepodge Hardware. The top frame panel is raised on mounting tape.
