Good morning ya’ll! Before I show you my card for today, there are a few things I need to remind you of:

  • Rubbernecker Stamp Company is having a huge Winter Sale Event. If you haven’t checked it out, pop on over and take a look (well, after you read my post okay?)
  • My pal, Jeanne, is giving away some awesome Blog Candy (compliments of Rubbernecker) over on her blog, Inky Paws. Jeanne will be picking her winner on Monday evening, Christmas Eve.
  • I’m still giving away some Tawdry Treats (compliments of Rubbernecker). All you need to do to win mine is leave a comment on this post, telling me about your favorite Holiday tradition. I will be picking a winner on Monday morning.

If you’ve come by today looking for the JBWW Challenge, I hate to disappoint, but – Jeanne and I have decided to take a break from the challenge for a little while.

So let’s move on to today’s card! I couldn’t resist playing the Featured Stamper Challenge on Splitcoast today. When I saw that it was Crissy a/k/a #1artist4highhopes, I knew I had to participate. I’ve admired Crissy’s work since she first started uploading on SCS! Here’s the card from Crissy’s gallery that I picked, mainly because the colors jumped out at me. As a matter of fact, that is the only thing I used from her card – I’ve changed everything else.

The background was made by sponging on Tim Holtz Distress Inks with sponge daubers and alcohol ink felt pads soaked in Alcohol Blending Solution. Once the desired background was achieved, the Travel Background was stamped in Black Soot Distress Ink, and the edges sponged. The main image was colored with Copic markers and then sponged with the same technique as the background. To get closer to the main image, a Cut-N-Dry nib was used with the Alcohol Blending Solution and picking up some color from the stamp pad. The edges of the main image were then sponged with Black Soot Distress Ink.

  1. Wow I am first. This is what happens when you can not sleep! One of my favorite traditions is that we all go to the 10:00 church service. It really keeps me in the right mind frame.

    It’s a good life!

  2. LOVE, LOVE, your sight.
My past traditions, are to have gathered my children up and go to a friends house to decorate their Christmas tree, and our special touch, was to add candy canes to the tree. We started this 20 some years ago and my friends who have since moved, to this day still use candy canes to decorate their tree!

  3. Wow, that card is awesome! LOVE all the distressing!

  4. Hey Sherry!! My favorite tradition that we always did when I was a kid and we do with my kids now is on Christmas Eve when the party starts winding down and the kids are anxious, have one of the “men” of the family go outside on the side of the house with some sleigh bells and ring them so the kids can hear. They think Santa’s sleigh is on its way…better get to bed.

    Great contest….Lovely card!!!

  5. My favorite Christmas tradition when I was a child was that we decorated the tree on Christmas eve and then went to the candle light service at midnight. We still go to church on Christmas eve, but the tree goes up around the begining of the month!
Thanks for the great candy and wonderful ideas.

  6. This is my fifth Christmas Eve that i have been delivering toy & gifts to needy families in my community. We normally donate to 27-30 families; we give groceries, gifts, coats, gloves, shoes, christmas tree, and Sanata even goes along on the deliveris when the family has small children. I work on this all year long with a group of other people and when we have finished our deliveries on Christmas Eve, then I get together with my family and we have our holiday. I’m a Trauma Nurse and usually work Christmas Day so that I can have Christmas Eve to spend helping my community and spending time with my family. This year is special because we have a new addition to our family, my daughter, Natalie is 4 months old!!!!

  8. WOW Sherry, this card blows my mind!! I love the background stamp and how you’ve made the image of the woman *pop* (I’m going to have to add that T.H. Soot Distress Ink to my Wish List).

And since reading one of your entries a couple of weeks ago, about rediscovering Tags via Tim Holtz, I’ve become hooked on his blog too :0)

Thanks for sharing all your info but wondered where you obtained the Cut-N-Dry Pen Nibs? (I’ve never seen nor heard of them before?)

Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy your time with your girls *hug*.

  9. My favorite holiday tradition comes from my grandmother. She’s 95 and still on her own and blessed. She would make fish every Christmas eve and she gave us all fish scales 2 put in our wallets to bring us money.
