I finally got my SCS Color Challenge Card done today. It actually took me longer to get the pictures than it did to make the card. Why is it that some days the light is just perfect and the next it looks like crap? You don’t move a thing from the day before and still you struggle. Anyhoo, I had this brainstorm (and yes, it did hurt) to use a Cuttlebug folder and mist it with Shimmer Mist for my background. So, I guess this card also fits last week’s Try a New Technique Challenge – negative embossing.

I knew I wanted to use this image of the dragonfly with the Cuttlebug background. I stamped the image in Basic Gray, then applied a very light Sky Blue color wash over the wings and the background. The body of the dragonfly was then colored with a light gray Copic Marker. As I sat and looked at the wings, I couldn’t help myself but to reach for the Frosted Lace Stickles and paint a thin coat on both wings.

For the background, I started with a piece of white cardstock and the Stylized Flower Embossing Folder. Just to experiment some, I decided to make my own Shimmer Mist using the Soft Sky reinker. I added 20 drops of reinker to a Mini Mister, a little bit of Perfect Pearls, filled the remainder of the mister with water and gave it a good shake. I then misted the embossing folder with the Shimmer Mist, placed my white card stock in and ran it through the Cuttlebug. It’s very hard to tell in the picture, but the Perfect Pearls gives the paper a beautiful pearl shimmer and has pooled in some of the areas by the embossing. After the background panel dried, I sponged Basic Gray around the edges. I started to add a sentiment to the front of the card, but I just couldn’t bring myself to cover up the background. I settled on gray velvet ribbon and a simple silver ribbon slide. The image panel is raised on mounting tape for some added dimension.
