As I sit here bouncing between the NASCAR Race and the Academy Awards, I find myself at a total loss for words.  I know . . . amazing!  Oh please I hate these rain cautions.  Let’s talk about my favorite driver for a few minutes . . . Mark Martin.  Mark and I are the same age.  I tell you this because we were 16 when I first met Mark.  My dad was the Race Director for the American Speed Association (ASA), and Mark started driving ASA when he was 16.  So I have a soft spot in my heart for Mark and hope beyond hope that this is finally his year to have a good season.

Let’s see if I can catch you up on what I’ve been doing the last few days.  I finally got my laundry and book work caught up Thursday and Friday.  Two of my most dreaded chores . . . but what is a girl to do when Mr. Stodgy runs out of clean clothes and let’s you know about it.  I’ve also learned that I can’t multitask anymore.  If I start laundry, I must stay with it.  Otherwise, I forget what I was doing and it ends up sitting in the washer for days.  So . . . one task at a time!

Since no one jumped at the chance to come over and help me organize my studio, I had to do it myself on Saturday.  It took all day and I didn’t even vacuum!  I did open up the floor space a little bit, and no longer have to walk around my work table.  I was able to keep my work table situated so that my back isn’t to the door, but I also have space behind me now to push my chair back.

Now for today!  I actually got some stamping done.  I know, I know . . . surprising!  It took all day, but I did get a card done.  I decided to watercolor with Distress Reinkers today.  I actually have a watercolor pallet that holds all my Distress Reinkers, with a few empty wells that I can mix colors in.  When I purchased it, I brought it home and added a dropper of each reinker in the wells then wrote with a marker what color is in the well.  It’s great because there is a plastic cover that keeps the ink from drying out.

Anyhoo, there are four of these seed packet images that I have set out on my desk to eventually watercolor.  The seed packet itself is a great image, but I just decided not to include in today’s card.  Thank goodness because I had enough trouble with the layout.

SO Friends

Once I had the image water colored, I die cut and embossed the image panel with Spellbinders Small Labels Nestabilities.  To throw a little fun into the card, I decided to die cut and emboss the layer for the image panel with Spellbinders Deckled Rectangle Nestabilities.  Don’t ask me why I decided on a green button, now I think red might have been a better choice.

Well I guess that’s all for today except . . . thanks for shopping by!Well poo, now I see that Mark has had some trouble . . . going back to the Oscars!

I decided this morning that I needed a challenge so I checked in on today’s Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge.  It has been forever since I’ve done any of the SCS Challenges and decided that I needed to get back to basics some.  You see, the daily challenges on Splitcoast were the first things I took part in after lurking on the site for a few months.  It’s where I developed my own style and learned so much about stamping.  There is nothing like a good challenge to get the daily mojo going!

When I saw today’s sketch, I knew immediately what paper I wanted to use and what colors.  I’ve had the BasicGrey Urban Prairie paper pad out on my desk for weeks, and until today I’ve not used it.  I feel that this card is a step outside the box for me.  There are no sponging, no brads and no ribbon.  There is some sanding though . . . I just couldn’t let those edges go!

SC216

The circles, the sentiment panel and the butterflies were die cut and embossed with Spellbinders Nestabilities and Shapeabilities.  I tried these butterflies a couple of different ways before I settled on stenciling them with Broken China Distress Ink.  You should have seen the mess I had when I used glitter . . . yuck.  To tone down the butterflies, I misted them with Broken China/Gold Distressed Pearlized Mist (or Shimmer Mist).

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’ve had a good day so far!

Hey guys!  Another exciting day here, let me tell ya!  While letting my chores pile up all around me, I was on the phone all morning and then took that afternoon nap.  Today my nap was only an hour . . . hey, it’s getting better.  I bet there will be a day soon that I don’t need that afternoon nap!  That’ll be a good thing because I feel like I’m burning daylight   . . . absolutely wasting my days away . . . and damn, I’m not even in Margaritaville.

While I was talking to mom this morning, she mentioned she needed some thank you cards.  So the card I worked on this afternoon is a generic card that she can use as either a thank you or a birthday card.  Actually, I guess she can use it for whatever she wants . . . I didn’t add any type of sentiment.  I also made this card for the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge.  The challenge this week is to use flowers somewhere on your card.

Bird in Vine

Starting with a piece of white cardstock, I inked the background by swiping Faded Jeans, Broken China and Mustard Seed Distress Inks on my craft sheet, misting with water, and then picking up the ink with the paper.  To add more color to the edges, I sponged on some of the Distress Inks.  Because I wanted the panel to look like a tag, I cut the end with the new Spellbinders Octagon Nestabilities.  Wish I had remembered to take a picture so that you could see the end.  The vine image was stamped with Ranger Archival Coffee and the leaves were water colored with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink.  Because I am in a purple and green mood today, I highlighted the flowers with a Purple Spica Glitter Pen.  The background paper was sewn to a separate panel, and the middle panel (made with Spellbinders Petite Deckled Scalloped Borderabilities) was sewn on top of that.

Before I leave you today, I have an announcement for you.  Rubbernecker Stamp Company has recently added Prism and 7 Gypsies paper to their store.  BasicGrey and May Arts Ribbon will be added very soon.  You can check it all out here.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I’m off to find some Butter Pecan ice cream . . . mmmm mmmmm good.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate all your comments, emails and phone calls that I received today.  Thank you all so very much for your concern and well wishes!  Trust me when I say that I actually feel better at this point in time than I did a couple of months ago.  Hell, I even feel better than I did a month ago.  Hopefully I’ll keep on this pace and will eventually feel like my old BAD self!

Guess what?  I finally walked into the studio today.  I’m surprised that the carpet wasn’t wet from the recent storms.  I just knew that I was going to have a mess on my hands. Actually, the only mess I found was what I had left out the last time I was in there.  You know, I’m starting to think that I’m just not happy with the layout of the studio and that’s why mojo is in hiding.  As organized as I can be, I’m just not able to make this space work the way I want (or need) it to.  It bugs me!!!!  I would definitely entertain offers if any of you wanted to come help . . .  You know we would have to stamp to make sure the setup works!

I started before noon today . . . that was really good for me!  I tried and tried to color some new floral images I’ve received, but alas it never worked.  Around 1:30 I ended up throwing everything in garbage, turned off the lights and walked upstairs for some lunch.  By 2:30 I was snuggling in for a little “after lunch” nap.  A sad thing is what was too only be about 30 minutes turned into a couple of hours.  But I did awake feeling refreshed with a few ideas running through my head.

Now my mother has been hinting that she could use some cards, but she can’t get anyone to make her any.  Duh . . . She has specifically asked for some with Max in the martini glass and of course she always loves anything with Millie.  I pulled out both stamps and decided that maybe some humorous and fun stamping was just was I needed to get me over this hump.  Oops, I said hump . . Smiley from millan.net

While I was visiting my dear friend Tex last year (actually we were working the San Antonio Show with Rubbernecker).  Oh this is a good story!  Me, Bev (“Tex”) and Joan were all going to work the San Antonio show for Rubbernecker.  Dave a/k/a Mr. Rubbernecker, was driving all of us to the show and just about the time I saw the Salado sign, I yelled for Dave to pull off at the next exit.  With Bev and Joan in the back agreeing with me (and might I add, laughing the entire time), Dave pulled off at the Salado exit.  We directed him to Stamp Salado, still not telling him what we were up to.  Suddenly it hit Dave what was going on and while he was pulling in the parking lot, he was dying that his truck and show trailer were pulling into ANOTHER stamp store!  Smiley from millan.net  He did walk into the store with us and spent just as much time as we did walking around.  So the point even mentioning Stamp Salado was that I picked up the sentiment stamp that I used today . . . from Deadbeat Designs . . . “Whatever Makes Your Wild Hair Blow.”  It was perfect and a must have!

So, Millie has a wild hair today!  It’s a perfect Birthday card for my mother to send to one of her lady friends.  I even stamped Happy Birthday on the inside and on the back (another new stamp I found recently) Hand-stamped by an Art Floozy! Smiley from millan.net

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great day!

Have you ever put something down, turned around and then couldn’t find that item?  I did!  Oh lets be honest.  I lose stuff a dozen times a day, every day!  But this time I really lost it.  Oh how I’ve lost it.

Let me start from the beginning.  As I mentioned last week (or whenever I last wrote a blog post) that I was having some sleep studies done.  I’ve been pretty tired for some time now.  It had gotten to the point that I could barely make myself get off the couch and move around.  I napped every day for a couple of hours and sometimes longer.  Nope, its not out of boredom.  I have plenty to keep me busy . . . I just haven’t been able to do it.  I went to a new doctor a few weeks back and tried to explain to her how bad I felt.  As well as prescribing some new “happy pills,” she ordered the sleep study.

I was scheduled for this past Tuesday night.  However, they had a cancellation the week before and called to see if I wanted to come over.  I jumped at the chance.  I knew that this was going to be my cure all.  Now I had slept in that morning, took a long nap in the afternoon and had more than a few pots of coffee during the day.  Coffee has been the only thing that has kept me going.  Well also my nicotine, but we won’t talk about that now . . . yes, I am a smoker . . . hey, I am her Royal Badness!  When I got to the clinic, they insisted that I go to sleep around 10:30.  BWAHAHAHAHAHA now that was funny.  The technician had me sit in a chair while she wired me up.  Two little pads on each calf, tons on my head with this wonderful sticky glue like substance, and a few more strategically placed around my body.  Needless to say, when I stood up to go to bed, I walked on the wires attached to my calves and immediately pulled them all off.  Duh!  The tech said not to worry about it that it happened all the time.  Well if it happens all the time, then why don’t they put them on once you are in bed.  After a very restless sleep I awoke at 5:30.  I was just rolling over to snuggle in for what I KNEW was my best sleep time, when I heard my name over the intercom.  Damn, I had to get up and head home.  I drove home with the sticky glue still in my hair, smoking all the way and dreaming of the pot of coffee awaiting me.

In between doctor appointments, etc., we have had an ice storm and a wind storm.  The debris from the ice storm is still piled up in front of the house waiting for the county to pick it up.  Just this weekend, Mr. Stodgy added the newly fallen limbs and branches from the recent wind storm to the pile.  I tell you this because it is important.

Last Monday I went back to the sleep doctor.  I learned that I do not have sleep apnea.  So does this mean that I really don’t snore like my family tells me I do?  I’ve never heard myself snore so I know I don’t!  I need no comments here from the Rubbernecker Red-Hot Mamas who have shared rooms with me . . . okay?  I also learned that I do not go into REM sleep.  They think I don’t because my oxygen levels are too low.  I did not qualify for a CPAC.  However, they have given me some oxygen to use at night.  I’m adjusting . . . earplugs are a must . . .  and Mr. Stodgy says he has not heard me snore.  Well of course not!  I don’t snore!  I can say that I have been able to breathe better at night and no longer wake up in the morning all stuffy.  That is a good thing!

Oh and by the way, the new “Happy Pills” are to help with the smoking.  My new doctor thinks it will help me to quit.  I can’t say that they have helped too much for with that, but they have curbed my appetite . . . another good thing!  She also has me back on a very strict diet.  I like this doctor . . . she actually wants me to come back for a follow-up.  That will keep me on my toes.

Tuesday last week was a wild day around here.  Because of the storms (well at least we want to think that) the refrigerator made a weird noise, smoked and then went out.  For the second time since September I lost the entire contents of the freezer just after Mr. Stodgy had been grocery shopping.  Yes, Mr. Stodgy does the grocery shopping.  He claims that I spend too much money.  Well I might because I buy food that can be used to prepare meals.  He doesn’t quite grasp that concept, so I cook what he brings in.  Hey if it’s not here, I can’t cook it!  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anyhoo, on Tuesday the repairman came for the refrigerator.  When I purchased the fridge about 5 years ago, it was a little too big for the spot but the delivery men shoved it in anyway.  To get the fridge out this past Tuesday, I had to actually remove the base cabinet and counter top from the wall.  Fun times . . .  Oh yeah!  Now it gets better!  While all this was going on, the man came to deliver my oxygen.  Talk about bouncing from one area of the house to the other.  I finally had to ask the oxygen guy to hold on a bit or I wouldn’t remember what he was telling me.

I truly can’t remember what happened during the last part of the week.  It seems I was on the phone quite a bit, some errands maybe . . . but I never made it to the studio.  I could not bring myself to walk down to the studio.   I lost it . . . I lost my mojo!  So I just decided to take the entire week off and try to rejuvenate!  I still haven’t walked into the studio but hopefully I’ll make it in there soon.

Damn, I wish I could have told you that I have been MIA because I won the lottery, moved to a private island and was being served by cabana boys!
