Smiley from millan.net Good Friday morning and Happy Wedding Day to Kate and Will!  Smiley from millan.net I’m so excited for the both of them and can’t wait until this afternoon.Smiley from millan.net

Today is the third Just For Fun® Friday and Kat chose the colors for this week’s challenge.

COLOR CHALLENGE#3

We really do want people to play along with us, and hope that you join us and post a link on the Just For Fun® Blog.  We’re gearing up for the launch of the new Just For Fun® web site which will be April 15th, and there will be some special things happening that day!

For my card today, I decided to add red as the color of my choice.  For some reason it’s difficult for me not to use red with black and cream/white.  Smiley from millan.net I even pulled out some of my favorite 7 Gypsies paper to use.

The flower was the first thing I worked on after picking my paper.  It was embossed in gold and then water colored with Distress Inks.  Once I had settled on a layout, the flower was die/cut embossed using Spellbinders™ Labels Eight, distressed and sponged with Vintage Photo.  I felt there needed to be something behind the flower, and used Spellbinders™ Labels Eleven to make another layer.  Then, that layer needed a little something something, so I added a sentiment and a vintage button from my stash.  I couldn’t resist using the ivory silk ribbon as a finishing touch.

Don’t forget to visit the other JFF Designer’s today to see what they’ve done with these colors.

That’s all I have for today, I need to get ready for the wedding . . . flowers to pick up, find clothes that fit appropriate to wear, blah blah blah.  Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the adventures that come your way today . . . remember, life is short!

Smiley from millan.net Good Tuesday morning!  Yesterday I had an email from my buddies over at TwistedPapers.com, Stan and Russell, that they had uploaded some new images.  I’ve been waiting for the colored Alice in Wonderland images because I’ve had an idea running through my mind for a few weeks now, which they did get uploaded.  However, they also uploaded a bunch of new Easter images!  I couldn’t resist downloading one with little yellow Smiley from millan.netSmiley from millan.net to work with.

I think that when I was a little girl I received a live chick for Easter one year.  I really don’t remember it, but my mother told me I did.  What I do remember is going to visit relatives with my grandparents one time, and my grandmother pointing out a goose that was my Easter chick.  I only remember seeing it one time, but that memory lingers with me . . . . it was a darn big goose!

Anyhoo, here’s my first chick card . . . I’m sure there’s going to be a few more because I absolutely love the new images!

I teamed the image up with The Stamp Simply Lilac Avenue Kit, sponging the edges of all the paper before sewing the background layers to the base.  I added just the image, but the design looked so bare to me that I made a frame from the glittery sheet that matched the background.  If you look closely, you can see the glitter on the frame.

Well, I have another doctor’s appointment today and then I’m going to visit with my uncle, maybe a class tomorrow, and then my baby . . . Kate is getting married on Friday!  Did I tell you?  I know I posted on Facebook when I found out but I probably haven’t said anything here.  They are going to the courthouse since they just bought a house  . . . saving money bless their hearts . . . smart kids too . . . Anyhoo, thanks for stopping by today and remember  . . . enjoy the adventures that come your way today, because life is short!Smiley from millan.net

Now for my card!  This was a fun one to work on if I must say so myself and I loved the colors that Starla challenged us to use.

SherryCheeverJFFCC2March12

For the image panel, I started with Wrinkle-Free Distress and used watercolor paper.  Once I had the background look I wanted, I stamped the image in Archival Coffee.  To enhance the image, I water colored the flowers a little darker than the background.  I couldn’t help but sponge the edges of all the paper and sew the background onto another panel.  Not being one to let it go, I then added some layers behind the image.

I wanted my ribbon to be a little dirty and not so frilly for this card.  I ended up dying some May Arts Ribbon White Twill with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and water.  After the twill was dry, I felt it needed to be more shabby so I swiped some Vintage Photo along the twill and rubbed it in.  Now that was fun!

That’s all I have for today, except I sure hope you play along with the JFF Designers in the Color Challenge.  Check it out on the Just For Fun® Blog!

Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, make each day count and enjoy the adventures the day brings you!

Happy Thursday!  Smiley from millan.net I know this post is late for today, but I taught a class last night and then had some appointments this morning.  I’ve had a few questions from my post on the altered frame and thought I would answer them here so everyone would know.

First, I received an email from Rebecca:

I love the red and cream striped flower you made. Can you tell me how many of each size of die cuts you used? And did you distress it somehow? I made one trying to get it like yours but it was too ‘perfect’. Any tips?

I used two different sized dies and cut 4 pieces with both dies.  In the end I had a flower with 8 layers of petals.  I learned some time ago while playing around that if I wanted to make paper curl, I could use a dry emboss tool and rub the paper in the side I wanted to curl.  So one petal to curl under, I rub the back of the petal.

A number of you asked where I got the frame . . . at Old Time Pottery.  I also saw some at the Dollar Tree the other day.

On burning ribbon . . . I use a grill lighter most times, and light singe the ends or the sides.  Nylon and sheer ribbon will melt.  Sheer simply crumbles all together but nylon will actually get a hole if the old the flame in one place too long.  I move the flame back and forth.  Way too much for us fire bugs!

Oh almost forgot this one . . .  you miss my smileys!  Smiley from millan.net Sorry that they’ve been missing, but I was having trouble the other night saving a post and it ended us being the smileys.  I had to delete them to get the post to work.  If you see them all is good . . .  if not, I had to remove them. Gee I love you guys Smiley from millan.net

I’m going to leave you with some photos from my alcohol ink class last night.  Mallory went with me as my assistant and did a fab job with the camera!

AI2

We’d already been through the basics and the group is working on a faux bleach/alcohol ink tag.

AI3

Fun was had by all and it was a great class!

AI5

Mallory’s artistic side (so she said) with photography!

AI4

The candles were tons of fun to make!

I’ll be back later tonight or first thing in the morning with my JFF Color Challenge card!  Great hop tomorrow guys . . . lots of inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by and remember   . . . life is short, enjoy the adventures of the day!
