Happy weekend!  My Saturday sure has been lazy so far . . . . a little TV, some laundry, blah blah blah . . . .

You might notice that I’ve changed my blog up a little today.  Splitcoaststampers upgraded our software recently and the other day they uploaded some new templates for us.  Since it was the first day of the Holiday Hoppin’ event, I decided to wait a few days before I did anything.  This change will be a work in progress as I continue to do little bits here and there . . .  some you might not notice at all.

Remember when I told you that my mother and uncle had picked up some wood boxes for me at Hobby Lobby?  There were two different sizes of the same box, this is a pic of the larger one.  I’m showing you this because when I sat down to work on the smaller box, I forgot to take a picture before painting it.  DUH!

Anyhoo, I painted the entire box (inside and out) black, sanded some areas where I thought one might handle the box, and then highlighted those areas with Vintage Photo distress ink.

There is a place on the top of the box that might be used for tile, a photo, I guess whatever you want . . . I added roses.  Not just any roses, but GrungePaper roses!

I stamped out three different sizes of the rose, cut them out and before putting on any ink, I stamped Wendy’s polka dot background from Studio 490 Seriously Art on in Ranger Snowcap pigment ink.  Once the pigment ink was dry, then I covered the roses in Dusty Concord, Broken China and Rusty Hinge.  The leaves were covered in Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive.  Being as I am . . . . you’ll find some extra trinket pins and whatnots thrown into the mix.  Underneath the roses there is also a flourish made with the Tim  Holtz Elegant Flourishes Alterations die.

So that’s it for this Saturday.  Tomorrow I’m going to take a bow making class with my mother and sister.  If I end up with some amusing pictures and/or stories (you never know with this bunch), I’ll be sure to share.

Oh and for those of you wondering about my smoking . . . . STILL NOT!!  I’ve moved to Stage 2 in the patches (which I must admit this week has been hard with the step down) and I’m finishing up week 5.  However, I did have my visit with the pulmonary doctor and they have absolutely, unconditionally released me.  Since I’ve quit smoking and all my tests came back “good”, then they don’t want to see me unless I have some problems, etc.  How cool is that?  No COPD and no other lung disease . . . some scarring yes, but nothing earth shattering to be that concerned about.

Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . . life is short, enjoy the adventures that come your way!

  11. Love what you did with this project.

  12. Gorgeous art Sherry! So glad you are still smoke-free. It is hard, but you can do it! Glad your results were good also. Hang in there girl, we are all pulling for you.

  13. Sherry, you never cease to amaze me with the use of “trinkets” on your projects; they always look so put together. So proud of you not smoking; you’re an inspiration to those who just think that it’s impossible to kick the habit. I always thank a co-worker who kept me from getting hooked as a young woman; she saw me smoking one day and said that it looked as if I was sending smoke signals; needless to say, I never picked up another cigarette…thank you, Marilee, for that remark!

  14. I love the box!! Your roses rock!!! As a smoker I am so glad your tests came back ok. Your an inspiration!!

  15. Way to go Ms. Sherry! That’s a wonderful thing to hear. Keep up the good work. Lots of folks are pulling for you.

  16. Good for you on the non smoking!! Keep it up!!
Love your little box and all the little extras that you add

  17. Sherry, I love the boxes and I LOVE that you gave us links to every little thing you used to make it! I’m VERY happy about your tests and that you’re still off tobacco — my mom will die from COPD or congestive heart failure, both due to 60+ years of smoking. But she’s happy so who can complain/judge? She’ll slide into that grave/casket with a cigarette in one hand and a martini in the other and a big smile on her face. But it would be better if she could hold out until 96 like her mom! 🙂

  18. This is truly darling in every way Sherry!! I never get tired of looking to see what you create, you always do an awesome job!! 🙂 GREAT JOB on not smoking, that’s wonderful and trust me I know how difficult it is!! Take it day by day… every day is a milestone 🙂 🙂
