Smiley from millan.net Good Tuesday morning!  How is everyone doing today?  All I can say is . . . it’s damn cold here and I don’t like winter. Smiley from millan.net I could put that in more graphic terms for you, but I’ll be nice today.

I guess it’s a good thing that its been cold, because I’ve spent the last couple of days buried in the studio working on CHA projects.  Can you see them yet?  Smiley from millan.net BUT, you will be seeing them in the near future . . . and they are well worth the wait if I must say so myself!

Now I said I wasn’t going to do this, but I’m folding under pressure.  I was also very inspired by Wendy Vecchi’s new plaid technique.  Oh my BADness!  If you haven’t seen it you must take a look here . . .  but not until you’ve finished reading my post . . . okay . . . .

I kinda messed with this tag on and off today while I was waiting for other things to dry on other projects.  I did the plaid and then I couldn’t decide what to put on the tag.  I finally settled on a tree . . . . made from diamonds.

SherryCheeverTriangleTreeTagDec7(3)

I die cut the different sizes of the diamonds from Spellbinders™ S4-288 Classic Diamonds and then cut them in half, leaving me with triangles that could be easily layered.  Each piece was inked with Peeled Paint Distress Inks and then the ends were shaped and curled before gluing together.  The trunk, which the tree is glued to, is a piece of illustration board that was covered in Walnut Stain ink for the trunk.  There’s a Maya Road star trinket pin at the top.

I used different sizes of tissue tape, even cutting some in half, to make the lines of my plaid.  The first ink put down was Fired Brick and then I went back with Forest Moss.  Once my plaid was done, I highlighted the remaining tag with a lighter touch of Fired Brick.  The edges of the tag are lined in Gold paint and I stamped the background from Ticket to Art in gold on the tag.

The ribbon at the bottom is 1.25” Ivory Crochet May Arts and 1/2” White Wrinkle May Arts (all from Stamp Simply Ribbon Store).  I dyed the white with Fired Brick Distress Ink because I didn’t have anything that matched the color of red I had used.

The sentiment, stamped in Olive Archival Ink, is from the Mini Holidays Collection by Tim Holtz and was die cut with S4-112 Classic Ovals – Small.  It’s layered on a piece die cut with S4-113 Small Classic Scalloped Ovals – Small, which was painted gold.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I’m off to run some errands and pick up a desert for tonight’s sorority meeting.  (I sure hope I can find that Red Velvet Cheesecake at Sam’s Club) Have a great day and remember . . .  life is short, take advantage of the adventures that come your way today!

  1. I love this tag, all do I don’t want to say anything bad about the great TH, I love that you made a totally different Tag.
I have seen so many TH copy’s last week, that I am ………..with them.
This one is very original, like it very much.

  2. I have to say this is awesome! Somehow, I didn’t expect anything else! I will going to check out what Wendy is doing! CHA…..Hmm, it won’t be long girl! I always love to watch the videos of everyone who actually got to go. Sadly that is not in the cards for me. We are at 18 degrees here this morning and blowing snow! I’ve had to drag out my blizzard bloomers….now isn’t that a little too graphic!

  3. Hi sherry, I love your tag, pine trees, tartan with snow.. spattered drops of water give great snow effect on this, gorgeous, feels like home. I’m going over to check out the plaid technique in Wendy’s blog next.
I’m snowed in at home today, my DH rescued me in his 4×4 from work yesterday …my car was going nowhere. We had 12 – 14 inches of snow in 6 hours. He was out for over 5 1/2 hours before we eventually got home, usually a journey that would take 10 minutes each direction in busy traffic. He couldn’t get to work either. People were getting stuck everywhere, on news lots stranded…sleeping in cars on motorways, or some in schools or pubs etc. Roads thick with snow and ice, jack-knifed lorries, abandoned vehicles… you get the picture. Stay safe and warm and enjoy playing in your studio.

  5. Hi Sherry I lovvve your tag. The pine tree, tartan background sprinkled with snow, feeling so at home with this. It looks great in those colours as a background, the “snow” just completes the look with the tree. I will check out Wendy’s plaid technique again I remember her doing this on a flower a wee while ago, I love it as a background.
I’m snowed in at home today, I can’t get out to work today.
I got stranded at work with my car yesterday. My DH came to rescue me in his 4×4. It took over 5 1/2 hours for him to get to me and bring me home (a journey that only usually takes 20 minutes round trip, in busy traffic normally) Roads are terrible, thick with snow & ice. People stranded, staying in schools, at work, in pubs or even sleeping in their cars last night with temperatures of minus 17 C. Cars abandoned all over last night, jack-knifed lorries etc… you get the picture.
Brrrrr…please, hurry up Spring. I don’t like this much.
Stay warm and safe Sherry and enjoy playing in your studio.
