Definition of EMBRACE

1
: a close encircling with the arms and pressure to the chest especially as a sign of affection : hug
3
: acceptance <her embrace of new ideas>

I’ve finally decided on my word for 2011.  Embrace has actually been in my head for months now.  Probably since October when my sister and I were shopping and I bought her a bracelet that said “Embrace the Journey.”  Actually I bought two that day . . . one for her and one for me.  Carrie turns 50 this year and it was an early birthday present so that she would look at turning 50 in a more favorable light that regretting it.

For me the word embrace encompasses many aspects of my live that I want to improve . . . relationships, family, fun, health!  You get the idea!  My list could go on and on, so I’ll stop now.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is . . . I get out of bed and instead of saying “oh I don’t want to get up, I don’t feel like it,” THINK POSITIVE . . .  Good morning sunshine!  Get up and embrace the adventures that come your way . . .  it’s gonna be a great day!

I truly don’t know how I could pick any other word!

I’ve yet to get into the studio for fun projects and right now I have it all torn apart while I try to put the holiday decorations away.  You see I store them in a spare close in the studio and to get in the closet I have to move some things around.  My goal is to get all that done this evening so I can go create!

That’s all I have . . . just some jibber jabber and blah blah blah . . . .

Have a fabulous day and embrace all that comes your way today!

Oh Man!  I forgot something and had to come back to add to this post!  I have an extra copy of Craft ‘n Things that I would like for one of you to have!

I’ll do a random draw and announce on Wednesday morning!  Just leave a comment and let me know what your word, if you have one, for 2011 is!

  1. I like it….and funny thing….I just figured out my word for the year…..so off to declare it to the world

  2. My word is “PRECIOUS”. Life is fleeting. You blink and you wonder where did all the time go. Our babies grow up and have babies. It just happens so fast and you think back and wish you could have some “do-overs”. I wish I’d put off the house work, the cooking, the meetings, the laundry and just sat down more and played and read the stories like the kids would beg for, but we would always be just a little too busy for. So yes, “precious” is my word for this year.

  3. I’ve never chosen a word for the new year, but I like the concept very much. I’ll have to think about it a bit. My 2010 ended on a sour note and I really don’t want that brought into 2011. Hmm, maybe a musical term. Brain wheels are spinning…

  4. I don’t have *a* word for 2011. I have two. Cleanse and Renew. This year is all about out with the old, in with the new, and a breath of fresh air. 2010 was filled with bad things and backsliding; I am determined that 2011 will be better and bring new, wonderful things.

    Happy new Year, Sherry!

  5. Have to say a ‘word’ for the year is a new one to me. Took a lot of deep-thinking to choose one. I finally settle on OPTIMISM! I tend to let the negative outway the positive at times and so figured this would be a good thing to concentrate on–works for body, mind and soul:)
And Sherry, your posts are never boring!!

  6. Yep Sherry, I have adopted
Ta Da PROMPT. I’m usually late and waite till the last minute .. now I’ll be PROMPT. Not the prompt where I tell you what to say and when to say it .. as in promter. ( I really see that as NAGGING) So PROMPT it is. I understand not mgetting out of bed .. I really really do.

  7. My word has to be Live…with my husband having stomach cancer we are living each day for today because we don’t know what tomorrow brings for us or anyone for that matter.

  8. I think my word is going to be TRUST…that means many things to me…trust my gut feelings, intuition, people?, and the Lord.
Hurry up and put that stuff away, I want to see some
PROJECTS! I TRUST that I’m going to get some done here real soon myself.

  9. Word for the year….. I like it. The first word that comes to mind is FORGIVE. I will of course ponder that for a while but I really do like it. I just watched a segment on a police officer that was killed not too far from where I live and one of her family members said something about not loving the crime, but loving the person who committed it because that is what God says we are to do. That is forgiveness!

  10. My husband has Parkinson’s, but is doing very well.
I like your word ‘EMBRACE”, because , both he and I need to embrace each moment and the word “PATIENCE” .
Because when someone has been your strength and adviser is slowing down so much it hurts and you get a little cranky.
But with the good Lord’s help we will make it.
    A stamping-card making friend,

  11. Actually, “Embrace” is a wonderful word! I love it! Embrace one day at a time, one moment at a time. Life is just too short not to embrace every moment. Thanks for the insight, and the constant inspiration. Love your blog!

  12. I think my word will be “Believe”. I think that we all need to believe in ourselves, others and our future. I’ve never chosen a word for the year, so this year is a first and I “believe” I like it.

  13. my word is serve. I keep having thoughts of how I can serve others. The needs that can be met and the many ways we can just love others. We should all set out to serve one another somehow this year.

  14. I love it! It’s a wonderful word and what a great attitude! . . . I think I’m going to adopt your “embrace” word as well . . . I’m going to embrace each day as a new beginning . . . embrace each challenge as an adventure . . . . and embrace each tear as a valuable jewel!

  15. Great word Sherry! My word this year is ‘what ever’…as in what ever will be, will be! There are things that can’t be changed and some things that take too much from my life to try and change. I am hoping for more peace and less stress in 2011!
    Thanks for sharing! :o)

  16. What a wonderful word! I will have to remember it for next year. My word for 2011 is “organize.” I feel that if I was more organized, other things will fall into place and that will make everyday life easier and give me more time to craft. So far, so good. I have my meals planned until Wednesday. Now to tackle the laundry and mail that piled up over the holidays!

  17. I must admit, embrace has been my word for many years…but this year I decided it was JOY… At the Crackerbox Palace Rubber Stamp store, like you we are in love with everything Tim Holtz… I noticed that of his four words, joy was seldom purchased.. I tried to think why.. I love that word!!! One of the customers said. Well love you can use anytime, Hope I think of cancer, wish can be for lots of occasions, but JOY is only for Christmas.. I Totally disagree, and so I even wrote our newsletter about the wonderful word of JOY. This was a couple of weeks ago.. So I guess, JOY is my word for 2011. Thanks for the JOY your Blog gives to me!!

  18. I like your word, embrace. It’s a good one. I’ll have to keep that in mind too when I get up for work tomorrow morn….yeah embrace the day…think positive!:-) My word for 2011 is peace. I often let things get to me that I need to just “let go”. So, my word is peace to myself, peace to others, peace to the whole world!:-) Happy New Year…may you have a happy, healthy, peaceful new year!

  19. New idea a word for the year and I like it!!Thank you Sherry!! My word would be BETTER. I want to be a better person ,my health better, my attitude better,my art work better, take care of myself better, make other’s lives better, that the world will be better. Well you get the idea!! So here’s to a BETTER year all over!!!!
    Hugs to you!!!

  20. Great choice of words — embrace! I am going to strive to be a better person this year and live each day with joy in my heart! I just retired in December and am having a hard time coping with not being with people each day (also live in the country) but will face each day as it arrives!

  21. Sherry, I know how you feel about getting out of bed — especially in the winter! My word is COURAGE — courage to keep on keepin’ on and finally get this depression under control! Courage to be who I am — not who others expect me to be! Courage to “just say no” to every little thing.

  22. Sherry
What a thought provoking blog today.
I will give some thought to my word. I know that this is the year to change a lot of things in my life. So perhaps the word is CHANGE or maybe determine.
Whichever word I finally choose I hope I can do it justice.
    Myrna

  23. I’ve never thought of having a word for the year, but what a great idea! I love your choice of embrace and might have to copy it. I would like to embrace my family and friends more and embrace the journey of life and all it brings my way. Thanks for inspiring us with your art and blog.
    Susan

  24. I have never thought of a word for the year, but it’s a wonderful idea. Love your choice of embrace. I, too, want to embrace my family and friends more and embrace the moments as they come. Thank you for inspiring us with your art and blog.
    Susan

  25. and you, Sherry dear, are very EMBRACEABLE!
    Consider yourself hugged…

  26. My word is ‘enough’. I have realized that I have enough of alot of things and in some cases too much. I want to get comfortable with enjoying what I have, enjoying where I am and realizing when I have had enough so I can stop, let go and/or move on to something new. I also realize that I have enough love, energy and faith to accomplish alot of things. Thanks for the idea.

  27. Great word. Can’t wait to hear what comes of it.

  28. Mine seems to be “Grace” — I want to be Graceful — both in movement and in the Spirit, as in: I would like to be visited by Grace and have Grace flow through me. I like using both meanings as I move and flow quietly into this new year.

  29. I haven’t commented here for a very long time but, as I have been pondering my life and how I live it quite a bit lately, your Word for the Year plan struck a chord. Finally I have settled on Enjoy. Over the years I have had 2 serious run-ins with breast cancer (including a stroke whilst on chemo) and am now coping with osteoporosis and multiple arthritic joints all of which has made me more cautious in my activities than I used to be. So, I have decided to Enjoy – who I am, my family (warts and all) and what I have rather than what I wish for.

  30. Actually, I have two words for this year – GET ORGANIZED!

  31. BELIEVE. I just placed this word on a folder of my harp music. My craft room is shared with my music room. And this year I believe I can get it all done if I start it….I must see it to the end. And believe in making this a better healthy year for myself. It’s all about me. If I am healthy then I am here for those I love.

  32. Faith…..That is my word for this year….to get through all the challenges that life has been throwing my way! I as well like one of the previous ladies stated have had a bout with breast cancer….and am finding life difficult and my faith challenged…when I know that what God brings us to…God can see us thru if we have FAITH…..
Thanks for the inspirations you provide!

  33. LOVE your word of the year: embrace what God sends you and DEAL WITH IT!! Complaining not allowed

  34. Happy! That’s my word and that’s what I want to be all of 2011 – happy! happy!happy! happy!happy! happy!happy! happy!happy! happy! happy!happy! happy!happy! happy!happy! happy!happy!happy! happy!happy! happy!happy! happy!happy! happy!happy!
Well – you get the point, huh? Happy me! Nelda in TN

  35. My dear Sherry! Sometimes you amaze me with your insight for just what I need to hear. I’ll bet other s feel the same way. Not only are you exceptionally talented, but seem to have wisdom and a way of sharing it that EMBRACES all of us. My word for 2011 is ENOUGH. I know that I shall have ENOUGH of whatever I need for myself, and I believe I shall have ENOUGH of what those around me need and the ability to know when and how to share it with them. Thanks so much for the idea. See yo in LA!

  36. I do very much like your word of the year! I think I will pick the word JOY! It is so important to find the JOY in everyday life…that’s what makes life extraordinary!!! Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us!

  37. My word is “organized”. After the christmas rush, my craft room NEEDS it. I have a couple of rooms, I’d like to work on too. Once I get a hold on these little things, I hope it will encourage my DH to do some bigger home improvement projects.

  38. I like your word Sherry embrace!! I think my word for 2011 is Family. I would like to visit my Mom and Dad more this year. They are 3 hours away and Mom has been sick so I think I need to make time to spend it with them.

  39. What a lovely word Sherry
I think my word would have to be Eternity.
    Hilda

  40. I also will use the word EMBRACE. I am the lucky sister that received that beautiful bracelet. We both wear them everytime we go out of the house. Yes, I will use EMBRACE as well. Love your posts. You are such an inspiration to me.

  41. Great word Sherry! Would love to win the magazine. A visit with you is always fun!

  42. Sherry,
I love your idea of a word for the new year. I’ve never thought of that concept before. I like the idea, and will have to think about what would work for me. I love checking your blog. I am always inspired by your creativity! Wishing you the best in 2011! -Diane

  43. I would choose the word “ENJOY” as in enjoy every day, because we never know what tomorrow will bring!
“HAPPY NEW YEAR” and I’m really looking forward to see your creations this year!

  44. my word is decisive. I need to make up my mind on things and not go back & forth!!! stamping sue

  45. ok, that’s kinda spooky, because last night I was ‘reflecting’ about all the trials and tribulations thrown at me during 2010 and I thought that I can either charge at these, hitting them like a brick wall and banging my head (which is how it felt last year) or I can accept them and EMBRACE the trials and tribulations and march on…. one step at a time. Hm, told ya that I was always comfy around you from the first minute I met you…. :-).

  46. Happy New Year Sherrie.

My word for this year is Believe.
In all I trust and believe that I am on the right path.
