Smiley from millan.net Happy Memorial Day Weekend!  How many of you have big holiday plans?  I think we will be working in the back yard some and I plan on spending lots of time in the studio getting inky!

Today I get to share with you the directions on how I put my Bird Sanctuary wall hanging together.

SherryCheeverBirdSanctuaryMINE

The background was die cut with Grand Labels One from illustration board.  Because the board was so thick, I die cut/embossed the background paper (October Afternoon – Fly a Kite) and then glued it down to the illustration board.    Of course, all the edges had to be sponged with Antique Linen.  The shelf is hobby wood trim that was painted black, sanded a bit, and then highlighted with Vintage Photo Distress Stain.

The flowers were die cut/embossed from Fly a Kite with Rose Creations and the edges were sponged with Antique Linen.  All the petals were curled and then glued together before inserting the brad in the middle.  All the leaves were die cut from GrungePaper with Foliage Die Template (inked in Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive).  You can see some of the new Floral Flourishes tucked away behind the leaves and the bird cage.

SherryCheeverBirdSanctuaryBIRDCAGE

The birdcage and bird were die cut from GrungePaper with the Bird Sanctuary Die Template.  I chose GrungePaper for this because I wanted the flexibility of the GrungePaper so that I could curve the birdcage.  The birdcage was inked with Snow Cap pigment, highlighted with Juniper pigment ink and then with my finger, some gold paint was added for highlighting.  There might even be a little terra cotta in there . . . I kept playing with the ink colors before I got what I wanted.  Lots of ink layers.  The bird was inked with Broken China Distress Stain.

The sentiment is an old Penny Black stamp from my stash, The Journey.  The hanger is made with floral wire.

Well, I think that’s about all.  I didn’t write these when I finished the project and without it sitting in front me . . . well, I hope I didn’t leave anything out!

Thanks for stopping by today and remember . . . life is short, embrace the adventures of your day!
