Happy weekend!  I guess this is better late than never . . . my project for the eclectic Paperie Get Altered Challenge – Fabric.  You still have plenty of time to participate . . . the challenge ends on March 20th.   In a nut shell, the Get Altered Challenge is about exploring your creative journey, about stepping outside of your comfort zone, experimenting with new products, and creating altered and mixed media art.   You can get all the details and read more about Micki’s fabric challenge at the above link.

I’ve had stashed in the closet some old curtain panels that I loved the colors in and wanted to work them into this challenge.  My first thought was flowers of course!

Spellbinders™ Blossom Five was used to die cut the striped panel.  Once the layers were die cut, they were soaked in Aleene’s Fabric Stiffener and Draping Liquid.  While still damp they were shaped and left to dry.

The leaves and stem were die cut from a solid green panel using Rose Creations for the leaves and Arched Windows One for the stem.  They received the same treatment with the Fabric Stiffener.

I love the dimension that using the Fabric Stiffener created.

The canvas itself was painted with combinations of Claudine Hellmuth Studio Acrylics in Sky Blue, Blank Canvas, Landscape Green and Classic Teal.  I thought I had more colors but unfortunately not, so I added some DecoArt Americana Purple Cow, Bahama Blue and Pineapple.  Once the canvas had dried, splatters of Krylon 18kt Gold Leafing Pen were added with an ink spritzer.

I knew when I picked the colors for the canvas that Mallory was going to love it.  They basically are the colors of the décor in her room.  She suggested adding a quote and came up with the one used.  I typed it up on the computer, trimmed it out and attached it to the canvas with Scor-Tape.

I left this canvas clean and when I showed it to Mallory she suggested adding some more color around the words and to the leaves.

A blue/green was added around the words from PanPastels Mixed Media 1 Collection.  Forest Moss Distress Ink was added to the leaves and then everything was misted with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls and water.

That’s all for me right now!  I’ll be back on Monday with a project for the eP Blog.  Until then, have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!
