Smiley from millan.net Good morning! I hope y’all had a great day yesterday and got to enjoy the great weather . . . if you HAD great weather where you are. I’m a warm weather girl (hence the dream of a private island and cabana boys Smiley from millan.net) and spring and summer are always my favorite time of the year.

I started working on today’s project late yesterday afternoon. Actually I got so involved in what I was doing, that when my cell phone rang at 6:30 is startled me. It was Mallory calling to let me know that dinner was ready! She was upstairs, I was downstairs and she has been cooking dinner since she’s been home . . . can’t ask for anything better . . . . Healthy gluten-free meals that actually taste good! My job is to clean the kitchen after and guess what? I can handle that!

Okay, for today’s project. There was a little thought that went into this one. I knew that I was going to use the Kitchen Mail Postcard Kit, but wanted to mount the postcard on something else. Knowing that this would hang in my own kitchen because the image I picked to use said “Make yourself at home.” That is a standard phrase here in our house. I tell every guest to just make themselves at home and help themselves to whatever they need. I want friends and family to feel comfortable and welcome when visiting. In most homes, the kitchen is always the heart of the home . . . SO; I picked a heart chipboard piece to mount the postcard on.

This all makes sense to me but I’m afraid I might have gotten somewhat carried away. I was in such a zone that some of the things I added seemed right at the time and then when it was all said and done, maybe not so.

The flowers were made from The Thrift Shop papers and the heart is covered with the inside of the Domestic Goddess Creative Scraps. I worried so about where to place the heart on the Scrap so that certain images would show . . . DUH you can’t even see them now! To add a little interest to upper right side, I stamped the ruler from Crafty Secrets Hardware set. I punched my holes in the heart to close to the edge, so to solve my problem of torn chipboard; I added the clips to hold my chain.

That’s all for today folks! Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short; take advantage of the adventures that come your way!

Happy Thursday! I feel so much better today . . . . almost back to my old BAD self! I’ve been out walking with the shihtzes this morning trying to keep them occupied since they decided to run around the house playing chase and barking this morning at 1:00 am. I think they’ve been missing their daily walks!

I started a card last night and then crapped out before I had it finished. After checking email and some other must do things, I went down to finish it.

The image was colored with Copic Markers and a light coat of Ranger Rock Candy Stickles was applied to the wings. Before the Stickles tried I shook on a bit of crystal glitter.

When I was working on the layout, I remembered some old Fairy Tale books that I’ve had since I was a baby. I ripped out one of the pages to use as a background piece. The best thing . . . I didn’t have to ink the edges to look old!

The inside of the card is stamped Birthday Wishes!

Thanks for stopping by today and remember . . . life is short; enjoy the adventures that come your way!

Smiley from millan.net It seems like forever since I’ve posted, but I know it’s not. I’ve been a little under the weather since last weekend’s trip . . . Smiley from millan.net sore throat, sleeping a bit, blah blah blah. In between naps yesterday I got all my stamping gear stored away and the studio picked up and cleaned. Then I was ready to create.

I love the Garden Girls set from Crafty Secrets and was drawn to it yesterday when I was looking for an image to work with. The stone fence in the image I chose reminds me of the fences around Lexington, Kentucky, that are so unique and beautiful.

The image was colored with Copic Markers and then the edges were sponged with Pumice Stone Distress Ink. I used Spellbinders™ Labels Eleven to offset the image and to layer it. I used some new designer paper for the background and to make the flower. Speaking of the flower, I used Spellbinders™ Flower Creations 3 and then make a small cut between each petal. Using the same technique in my Paper Flower Video, I worked just the edges of each petal to make them stand up for dimension.

That’s all for now. Since my studio is clean I’m planning to spend the day creating away! Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . . Life is short; enjoy the adventures of the day!

Smiley from millan.net Good morning! I can’t believe that tomorrow is Friday . . . Smiley from millan.net. This weekend Wendy Vecchi is having her classes in Greenwood, Indiana. I pick Daisy Sparks up at the airport early evening tomorrow and then we are going straight to Sharon’s Crop Studio. Wendy is having a meet and great and we are going try like hell to get there before it’s over. Our first class is Saturday morning and guess who is joining us for our second class on Saturday? Jennifer Buck, Beate Johns and Jenn Balcer! WOO HOO! I am so excited to be getting together with these girls for some stamping fun.

Enough of my giddiness, let’s move on. I finally got some stamping time in last night! I’ve been in a rut with card layouts and sketches and decided to check the Wednesday Sketch Challenge out on Splitcoaststampers. It looked like a fun one and I decided to give it a whirl. The girls in the Crafty Secrets Forum are also having their weekly challenge which the theme is Friendships. I decided that I could combine both challenges AND add a bit of humor as well!

So here’s the front of my card.

SC280 Dear Diary May13 OUTSIDE

The image is from the Girlfriends Images and Journal Notes and the paper is from the Radiant paper pad. It matched the image so well that I couldn’t resist. I thought I was out of Crafty Secrets paper and then I found the Radiant pad buried in a ton of 12×12 designer papers. I’m so glad I found it!

For a little humor . . . but first I want you to notice the line on the image that says “23 Things Girlfriends Share.” That’s my inspiration for the inside . . .

SC280 Dear Diary May13

This is the bottom half of the image on the front of the card. I used the sentiments contained in Greetings from Wonderland and stamped them on the page “Dear Diary”. Now I thought this was absolutely hilarious and here I was Smiley from millan.net and Mallory looked at it and said “ha-ha mom” in that sarcastic way she has sometimes. I guess she didn’t think it was so funny.Smiley from millan.net

Now remember . . . life is short, take advantage of the adventures that come your way!

Smiley from millan.net I had every intention of having this post done and up early today; however . . . well it just didn’t happen! Have you ever one of those days when emails, phone calls and Facebook got in your way? Well of course you have! I don’t even know why I’m asking.

An amazing thing happened to me yesterday, an adventure I took advantage of. There’s a new page on Facebook about Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville, KY. Now this is the local race track that my dad (step-dad) was the Race Director/Manager. I was looking it over yesterday and there was a post by some other lady talking about her dad. I recognized his name and commented back. It turns out that our fathers (and by this I mean my biological father and my mother’s first husband) were buds and our mothers were actually good friends. We played together as little girls. UNREAL!!!!

The memories for me were hard to come by, but I vaguely remembered some of the times spent together and she and her brother. I had to call my aunt and my mother to get some background information on the whole thing. The great thing is that we are now Facebook Friends and corresponding with each . . . way too cool! The weird thing, it made me think about my memories . . . or lack thereof. I kiddingly joked with my mother that it seems we have/had three different lives. That life with my grandparents which was happy, safe and we were taken care of. That life with Norman (my mother’s first husband and my biological father) where my memories are buried deep; and those that I do recall are not happy. It was tough being married to and being raised by a mean drunk! I say drunk and not an alcoholic because basically, that is what he was . . . drunk all the time and mean, when he was around. The last life we’ve had I will call the Hartlauf years. The life we had and continue to have with my dad (step-father) . . . what a wonderful life it has been and continues to be. What a blessed life it has been!

Okay enough of my drivel, babbling and storytelling. Thanks for letting me get it out though and express it all here! I could probably write an entire post about those lives, but how boring it would be for you.

Let’s get to my card today. I had the image colored yesterday and by the end of the day I had problems getting it paired with paper for the card. I waited until this morning and I’m glad I did . . . the project took a different turn entirely.

SherryCheeverLittleGirlMay5

The little girl image was colored with Copic Markers and even though it can’t see it in the photo, there is a slight yellow glow around her. I finally settled on some extra pieces of Postcards from Paris for my background papers and then found the matching cardstock. I had these scalloped circles all punched out (which were a toss away from another project) that I decided to finish up and add. I’m afraid I sponged them too dark though. However after I added some gold shimmer mist and Rock Candy Stickles I almost like it. I guess you could look at the flower and say . . . it’s dried out and been handled way too much! Oh and look at those three buttons on the left top. I found them in my button jar with the thread still attached . . . perfect for this card.

Here’s the inside . . . plain and simple, with the perfect sentiment.

SherryCheeverLittleGirlInsideMay5

That’s all I have for today! I’d like to thank you for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, enjoy the adventures of the day!
