Hey y’all happy Thursday! You know, I was thinking the other night how I often open my blog posts; it seems to be Hey y’all or you guys. Now having been raised in Kentucky, where they call you by your first and middle name, it was always y’all. Of course I was called Sherry Lynn or the shortened version, SherLynn, all my life. I still have relatives that would know me by no other name. I went to college in the middle east of Indiana. There I had friends from all across the county with all different types of accents. For instance, I had one friend from Jersey who couldn’t say purse (it always came out puss) so it was always a pocketbook with her. I met Mr. Stodgy in college (well actually on Ft. Myers Beach during spring break). We lived in the same group of dorms. I brought him home one weekend and we went shopping. The cashier said, “can I help y’all.” Mr. Stodgy looks at me and asks “why is she asking us about a truck?” I laughed so hard that I almost peed my pants. You see, Mr. Stodgy is from Northwest Indiana, affectionately called the Region by most Hoosiers. We got married and moved to the Region. The first time I met Mr. Stodgy’s grandmother, Grace, she was going to town and asked if I wanted to go with. I was waiting for her to finish . . . go with? Go with where? Go with whom? Another term I picked up while in the Region. We moved back to Kentucky in 1983. I’ve picked up my local southern twang once again but every once in awhile little snippets of other phrases slip out. My point? I truly don’t have one . . . I was just thinking about all the different accents and phrases I have picked up during my life. I truly can’t help myself.

Have you had enough of my babbling? I know I have! But truly if you have, then skip down to the next paragraph. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA read then skip.

Yesterday while browsing through the forums on Splitcoaststampers I decided to look at the Sketch Challenge. After I did some picking up in the studio and had started another project that needed to dry, I started on the Sketch Challenge. Needless to say, I didn’t finish last night but this morning instead. I’m still working off and on with the other project.

This time, I decided to watercolor with crayons. I’m off on that tangent of painting with different mediums and having fun with it. I used my new favorite toy, my Koi Water Brushes and Stampin’ UP! Watercolor Wonder Crayons. My gosh I haven’t used those crayons in ages. They actually look practically new! Anyhoo, I needed a card for a friend and I thought this would be perfect to let her know I was thinking about her.

Happy Tuesday! I had some appointments yesterday and never made it into the studio. By the time I got in, I was totally exhausted and just chilled out on the couch. I can’t remember if I took a nap or not! Today we have sleet, ice and snow and it’s a perfect day to work in the studio. Who knows I might even get the Christmas decorations down today . . .

I thought it would be fun today to work with the CPS Sketch for this week. It’s their 100th sketch and they are celebrating big time! I also pulled out one of the stamps I picked up last fall while shopping in Brown County. It’s about time this stamp saw a little ink.

The image was water colored with Ranger Distress Reinkers and the edges of all the paper were sponged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

The Card that Took All Day!

Well, it’s taken all day but I finally got a card made. I did start this morning on a very bright and cheery card . . . but, something happened and it just flew right into the trash can. So, I decided to take a break then. I hate it when I have an idea in my head and it doesn’t materialize. Maybe because it was a bright and cheery card – duh!

Anyhoo, while mildly dozing on the couch an idea struck me and I trotted down to the studio. Here it is, for better or for worse, my card for today’s Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge and the Rubbernecker Blog Challenge. Shelly is the hostess for the blog challenge today, and she has challenged us to add some sparkle, glimmer or shine to our projects.

I stamped and embossed the poinsettias in Queen’s Gold EP. They were then colored with Twinkling H20s and then painted a thin layer of Crystal Stickles over them. I decided I wanted to cut the image out with some of the blooms hanging out, so using one of the Rectangle Nestabilities as a frame, I traced around it with a pencil. This gave me the cutting lines that I needed. I sponged the edges of the image and the background paper with Antique Linen Distress Ink, to age it just a little. It pays to be a pack rat sometime . . . the ribbon is from a box of Ghiradelli Chocolates that I bought some time ago to use with another project.

Good afternoon! It’s taken me all morning to get into the studio, but when I did . . . the card came together with no problems. I wanted to take part in today’s Rubbernecker Blogger Challenge and then decided that I could combine with the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge as well.

For this week’s Blogger Challenge, Broni has given us a wonderful inspiration piece that you can see on the Rubbernecker Stamps Blog. I did turn the SCS Sketch so that both challenges would work together.

I started with a manilla shipping tag and colored the tag using Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo Distress Inks. The main image was stamped and embossed with Clear EP. For the background, I then sprayed the tag with Stream, Butterscotch and Red Pepper Color Wash. To remove the embossing I placed a sheet of printer paper over the tag and then iron off the embossing. The tag was cut down in size, distressed and then the rest of the stamping was completed.

Four Challenges in One!

Happy Friday! It’s rainy here today with a nip in the air – a perfect day to spend indoors stamping. I haven’t done a Splitcoaststampers Challenge in what seems like weeks. Actually it probably has been weeks with my traveling and all. I’ve checked in on them every day this week, but the mojo has failed me.

All week long, the challenges have been in honor and celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They have gone PINK! Since this is a cause near and dear to me, I couldn’t let another day go by without participating.

I think this is the first time that I have combined more than two challenges into one card. Today, I’ve combined four: the Color Challenge to use Pink Pirouette, Kiwi Kiss and Chocolate Chip; the Sketch Challenge; the Ways to Use it Challenge to use just one word; and today’s Limited Supply Challenge to use leaves.

A few months ago I went to Cincinnati Stampaway with some friends, and bought a few of the new Studio 490 sets. I met the designer, Wendy Vecchi, at Winter CHA and was in total awe of her designs. I was so excited at Summer CHA to see that she had released sets incorporating her unique style with chipboard and grunge board. Today I finally broke them in and put a little ink on them!

Let’s start with the Grunge Board leaves and flowers first. I stamped the images on the Grunge Board, cut them out, and then inked the leaves with Kiwi Kiss and the flowers with Worn Lipstick. An idea-ology Hitch Fastener holds the petals of the flower together. The background papers started as white. To give them color, I swiped both Pink Pirouette and Worn Lipstick on my Ranger Craft Sheet, misted the ink with water and laid my paper in the ink to pick up the color. Using a craft iron, I ironed over the paper to dry it. This process was continued to keep adding layers of color to the white paper. The sentiment, dream, was part of a phrase that I masked, inking only the one word to stamp on the third panel.
