Here it is Saturday and I’m trying to put away paper, new rubber, and generally clean the studio.  But I got Smiley from millan.net.  I know you stampers understand what I mean . . . you touch a stamp set to move it and all of a sudden . . . well you just can’t help yourself.  You are inspired and you MUST make a card.  In reality, you should be outside in the yard basking in the sunshine and doing some yard work.  Nah . . . pretend I never said that let alone thought about it.  Then once again you get sidetracked while you are writing your blog post, see something that bugs you and then have to clean it up.  Seriously, this could be called Adult ADD . . . . I like to think of it as the mind of a creative person.  As I look around my studio, I also realize that creative people are also pack rats.  But that’s a discussion for another time.

I’m sure by now, if you’ve even read this far, that you’re for me to quit babblin’.  I keep looking around at the mess, drawing a blank so I do guess it’s time to show you my card.

The image was stamped on Canson Watercolor paper and colored with SU markers and Koi water brushes.  The background of the image is very lightly colored with Barely Banana if you can’t see it in the photo.  The image and the panel below, were cut and embossed with Spellbinders Deckled Edged Rectangles and then the edges were sanded.  The background paper was sanded and sewn to a second panel.  To may the fun panel on the right side, I cut and embossed with Spellbinders Petite 5 ½ Deckled Scalloped Borderabilities.  The embossing was sanded to make it look worn.

Ahhhhh Spring Time!

Hey y’all!  Smiley from millan.net I hope you’ve had a good past couple of days.  It was so gorgeous here on Wednesday that I spent the entire day Smiley from millan.net in the flower beds.  I’ve been sedentary for so long that every muscle in my body hurts, but it was rejuvenating to get dirt under my nails and be outside.

Because I have been enjoying myself outside, I’m a little late getting to the SCS Sketch Challenge this week.  But hey I finally got it done.

The background panels were cut, sewn to the Burgundy and then affixed to the front of the card.  The image was inked with Vintage Photo and then a Burgundy marker was used on the birds in the image.  The image and the layer behind it were cut and embossed with Spellbinders Small and Large Deckled Rectangles.

Greetings from the Funny Farm!

I can hardly believe that this week is just about over.  I finally got into the studio Friday night and was able to work for a few hours.  When I finished my card, I don’t know why I didn’t go ahead and take my photos.  I had forgotten, yes once again, that Mallory and her friends would be arriving home this morning.  They came rolling in around 4:00 a.m., and when I got up this morning I didn’t dare walk downstairs and wake them all up.

I ended up taking all the girls, Kate and mom included, to lunch and then had to come home and take a nap myself.  That Target trip absolutely wore me out.  The weather has been to ugly the last couple of days, and instead of everyone working in their yards . . . they were all in Target today!  The girls leave in the morning to head back to school, so I’m glad I got to spend a day with them.  They are all way too funny!

Speaking of funny, I love the Home set from Artistic Outpost.  I had to giggle while I was making this card.

The image was water colored with Ranger Distress Reinkers and then I tore the edges and sponged them with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo.  The Home sentiment was stamped on the background paper with Aged Mahogany.

As I do every morning after checking emails and catching up on Google Reader (all done with my first cup(s) of coffee), I head over to Splitcoaststampers to see what the daily challenge is.  Saturday is always the Inspiration Challenge and sometimes I’m inspired . . . sometime not.  Today I was!  Of course, I also have in hand a new set of stamps that happen to work perfectly with one of the inspiration pieces.

Today’s Inspiration Challenge pieces are from Lang Calendars.  I cruised the Lang site, but still decided to use one of the pieces shown us in the thread:

It was the first one that jumped out at me!

One of the other sets I got from Artistic Outpost was Bluebird.  When I was looking at this set the day it came, I was already envisioning how I could use it and lo and behold, today’s challenge was perfect.

Because I wanted a different background for the main image (the birds), I made my own paper by wiping Broken China and Vintage Photo on my craft sheet, misting the ink with water, picking up the ink on my paper and drying it with my heat tool.  No iron this time.  I wanted the paper to be splotchy in appearance.  After lamenting over the card design and background for close to an hour, I decided to do the same for my background panel.  Spellbinders Labels One Nestabilities were used to die cut the image and the layer behind it and for an added touch, Spellbinders Large Long Scalloped Rectangles Nestabilities were used to cut the edge to the side panel.  Instead of sponging the edges of the side panel like I did the image panel, I sanded it instead.  I must say that I do like the sanded look, especially over the embossed areas.  When stamping the sentiment, and even though I practiced first, I still got it crooked.  Too late however, because I wasn’t going to that background sheet another time.

Happy Mail - New Stamps!

Have you ever had one of those weeks when nothing, absolutely nothing, inspires you to stamp?  Well, I’ve actually had two of those weeks, which is why I’ve been MIA this week.  There was no mojo, no motivation . . . nothing.  It seemed that when I had all my morning chores done there was no way I could bring myself to walk into the studio.  So, I didn’t!  What I did do however, was browse some online stores.  Quite a few stores actually.  I finally settled on two that I couldn’t resist so I placed some orders.  What else is a stamper to do when the mojo just isn’t flowing  . . .  well go shopping of course!

Today I received the first packet of stamps that I ordered.  I couldn’t wait to walk into the studio!  Before I allowed myself to start stamping though, I had to clean up my messes from a few weeks back and then cut all three sets and get them organized into my system.  Are you curious yet where I ordered?  ARTISTIC OUTPOST!  I’m not going to tell you the second company yet . . . still waiting on those to arrive.  It’s a surprise!

When I saw the Serenity set at Artistic Outpost, I knew I HAD to have it.  It reminds me so much of my great-grandparent’s farm.  The way the house sets back, the huge tree off to the side, and the fields all around the house.  Some of my fondest memories are when I used to spend weeks with my great-grandmother.  My uncles worked the farm, cousins ran in and out and there was always music.  My great-grandmother played the piano by ear and one of my cousins always brought along his guitar.  Oh my, good times!  Grandma always asked my cousin to play and sing one of her favorite songs that I can still hear today . . . The Long Black Veil.  Anyhoo, enough of my self-indulgent reminiscing.

I stamped the image on watercolor paper, applied a light wash of Broken China and Shabby Shutters Distress Reinkers, then die cut the image and bottom layers with Spellbinders Rectangle Nestabilities.  Using the Spellbinders Long Scalloped Rectangle, I cut the bottom of the card base and then the second panel.
