Good morning!  Today it’s my turn to host the eTeam Picks Challenge over on the eP Blog.  Of course, and I know you won’t believe this one . . . I picked FLOWERS!

The eTeam Picks Challenge is held on the third Thursday of each month and each challenge is an opportunity for you to be inspired by one of our eTeam’s creations, to share your work, and to be entered into our challenge prize drawing.

The base of the project is a 6×6 canvas that was painted with Bundled Sage, Broken China and Picket Fence Distress Paints.  Using Studio 490 3 Fresh Flowers Stencil, White Embossing Paste was applied to the canvas.  The petals of the flowers were painted with Victorian Velvet and highlighted with Seedless Preserves Distress Paints.  The stems were painted with Peeled Paint Distress Paint.  To add more highlights, Forest Moss Distress Ink was rubbed over the stems and Dusty Concord over the petals.

For more texture and dimension, over stamping with various Studio 490 background stamps was done in white pigment, Sepia Archival and Royal Purple Stazon.   To finish the canvas, gold leafing splatters were added with a gold leafing pen and canned air.

Love the texture and dimension that the Embossing Paste creates!

The eTeam Picks Challenge is all about inspiration and having fun! During each challenge one of the eTeam members will share a topic, word, technique, sketch, or product that will become the foundation for your creation. This challenge is all about mixing it up and just enjoying the creative process… anything goes! We want to see your work and hear about your inspiration. All of those who play along with our challenge will be entered into a prize drawing for a $15.00 gift certificate to the eclectic Paperie store.

We can’t wait to see your flowers!  Here are a few things to keep in mind for this challenge…

You do not have to use products sold in the eP store…but we do love it when you do.

  • Share a direct link to your creation, not just your blog, using the Linky Tools feature at the end of this post.  If, for any reason, the Linky Tools doesn’t cooperate, please add a link in the Comments section of the blog.
  • When uploading to any online galleries, please use any of the following keywords; eP, eclectic Paperie or eTeam Pick Challenge.  Link your creations to the eP Blog.
  • If you’d like to be considered as one of our featured projects and be entered into our prize drawing, please be sure to add your link no later than midnight EST on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

Thanks for stopping by today and if you get the opportunity to get a little crafty . . .  I hope it’s with flowers and you play along with us!

Project Supplies:

Good Saturday morning!  Here it is the second Saturday of racing from Daytona and I’m digging in to watch the Nationwide race this afternoon.  I hurried this morning to finish up a project I was working on yesterday and get my photos done so I could settle in.   I don’t have a television in the studio any longer  . . . I watch videos on my iPad now while I’m working, so I wanted to get going this morning.

I didn’t have Hadlee yesterday, which gave me the day to spend playing in the studio . . . and play I did!  I was finally able to work on something I’ve had planned for a few weeks now.

BeMeFrame

The frame is one of those Michael’s dollar frames that I like to keep on hand.  I painted the frame black and then using my new Crafter’s Workshop Template – Mini Harlequin, I applied black Studio 490 Embossing Paste to the front of the frame.  Once the paste was dry, I went back and placing the stencil back over the paste, I misted the paste with a combination of water and Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls.   I love the light shimmer I was able to achieve!

BeMeFrame Middle

The sentiment was stamped with the Melody Ross set by Unity – She Sprouted Wings.   The background “be brave” was stamped in Barn Door and the “Be Me” in Jet Black Archival.   The sentiment was then die cut/embossed with Spellbinders™ Squares and mounted on two pieces of thin chipboard that had also been die cut with the Squares.  The chipboard was painted black and edged with a gold leafing pen.

BeMeFrame MiddleAngle

All the flowers and leaves were die cut from watercolor paper and painted with various colors of Distress Stains (all listed below).  It just dawned on me that this is the flower that I promised a tutorial on and unfortunately I didn’t do it yesterday.  I promise I’ll get it done!

BeMeFrame LowerLeft

The roses were made with the Grand Peony Die Templates, the leaves are Foliage and Rose Creations.  The flourish is from Venetian Motifs.

BeMeFrame UpperRight

This project was done for the eTeam Picks Challenge – Folded Paper.  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to post the day the challenge went live, but I suppose it’s better late than never!  You have the opportunity to play along and be entered into a drawing for an eP Gift Certificate.  Follow the above link to get all the details and see what others are uploading and linking to!

BeMeFrame LeftAngle

That’s all for me right now!  As soon as the race is over I’m heading back to the studio to work on a few more projects.

Project Supplies:

Good morning and Happy New Year!  I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to put one year to bed and start another new and fresh.  The last year has been full of adversities for our family . . . the best things were Mallory graduating from college and the birth of Hadlee!  Apart from that, we’ve had a number of trials and tribulations that have made some days more trying than others.

I have a tendency to shut down when feeling stressed and depressed.  I’m afraid that I’ve spent the better part of last year simply trying to get through each day the best I could.

On the upside of things, you all know my sister fell and broke her leg.  Six months have passed and she is now walking with a cane and has actually found herself walking from room-to-room without it.    She drove for the first time in six months on December 30 . . . WOO HOO for Carrie!  I’m so proud of her for overcoming such a debilitating injury!

Mallory is still sick and has been for one year now.  The doctors are continuing to run tests and I’m feeling confident that we will find out what is going on before this new year is done and over.

Hadlee . . . what can I say!  I’m truly blessed that Katie allows me to share with Hadlee on a daily basis and hasn’t grown tired of her old mom doing things she isn’t happy with . . . like giving Hadlee a lick of the chocolate “Frosty” spoon!  You know, just a touch of the spoon to the lips really . . . but boy were those lips working . . .

Now there is a reason why I have shared so much with you at the beginning today . . .

Those of you who follow me on a regular basis, know that I have had my spurts of posting and then not posting this year.  I’ve often blown my lack of posting off to being too busy, etc., but quite frankly . . . I’ve had a hard time getting myself up and ready to work in the studio with all the other things going on in my life.  On those days when I finally had a day at home to myself and could work, I couldn’t quite bring myself to move from the couch.  I spent a lot of time the last year sitting in a comatose state, wasting what valuable time I did have for myself.

I’ve had enough!  I’ve decided it’s time for me to pick myself up and get going with life again.  This not only includes spending more time in the studio, but it also includes loosing some of the extra weight I’ve put on and most importantly, to dwell on the positive in my life over the negative.

This now brings me to my project for today.

MixedMediaCanvas FlyAboveIt

This is a Mixed Media Canvas that I’ve created for the eP Get Altered Challenge today (that you can find on the eP Blog), but more importantly, it’s a canvas that I’ve made for myself to help remind me to rise up and “Soar/Fly” over any adversities that may come my way this year.    The colors used coordinate with my living room and dining room and my intent is to hang it where I will see it every minute of every day!

It is a 6×6 canvas that already had the gesso applied when I purchased it.  I painted the canvas with a base coat of DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paints in Hauser Light Green, Light Buttermilk and Bahama Blue.  Eventually mists made with Distress Ink Refills (Dusty Concord, Crushed Olive and Broken China) and Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls was applied over the paint.

MixedMediaCanvas FlyAboveIt CLOSEUP Flowers

The flowers were all made from watercolor paper, and I have to tell you . . . I LOVE how they turned out!  The large red flower was made with Spellbinders™ Blossom Five and Fired Brick Distress Stain.  The yellow flowers were made with Grand Peony Creations and combinations of Mustard Seed, Wild Honey and Fired Brick Distress Stains.

MixedMediaCanvas FlyAboveIt CLOSEUP HEART

The heart was drawn free hand and cut out from watercolor paper.  It was colored with Aged Mahogany Distress Stain, misted with water and Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls and then covered with Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint.

MixedMediaCanvas FlyAboveIt FLATSIDE

The letters were made with Maya Road alphabets that were colored with Black Soot Distress Stain.   The only item not made with watercolor paper are the foliage leaves that  were die cut from GrungePaper and then colored with Forest Moss Distress Stain.

After all the embellishments had been adhered to the canvas, I used ink spritzer to add some flecks of Krylon 18kt Gold Leafing Pen to the canvas.

MixedMediaCanvas FlyAboveIt ANGLE VIEW

That’s all for me today, except to say . . .

Thanks for stopping by today and more importantly, thanks for sticking with me over this last year.  I promise to be a better blogger and online friend in 2013!  I truly appreciate each and every one of you and always look forward to your comments and emails!  Thanks for not giving up on me . . . I did enough of that for all of us combined!

Have I got something fun for you today . . . our very first eclectic Challenge! Daisy thought it would be fun to have you, our readers, to participate along with us in our blog hops.  SO, we are now incorporating a challenge into our blog hops . . . think on the terms of a creative challenge.  For this first challenge, Daisy has challenged us to use Distress Inks (or stains), a die template of our choice and an egg carton.

For those of you playing along with us, Daisy has set up inlinkz on the eP Blog for you to post your creations to. For today’s challenge you have from Friday, August 12 until Sunday, August 21st to post.  One winner will be picked from the submissions on the eP Blog, who will receive a $40 gift voucher to eclectic Paperie.  The winner will be announced on the eP Blog on Monday, August 22.

As in the past, we will continue to give away two prize packages to those readers leaving blog comments.   For this hop, two randomly chosen winners will each receive some 6×6 paper pads that have recently been received at eP along with some other surprises.  You have until Sunday, August 14 to comment.  The winners will be announced on the eP Blog on Monday, August 15.

The E-Team Participating in this first eclectic Challenge are (besides me):

Daisy SparkseP Blog
Broni Holcombe
Latrice Murphy
Linda Duke
Micki Harper
Starla Nelson

Now for my project and that little snippet of the challenge, an egg carton.  Can you guess which part is the egg carton?

AGoodEggChallenge

I started with the larger frame and a scalloped border from Studio 490 Sample Pack Art Parts.  For the base of the frame, I die cut Spellbinders™ new die template, S5-066 Shadow Flowers, to use as a mask.  The base was covered with Crushed Olive Distress Ink first, the Shadow Flowers were placed and then sponged over with Stormy Sky Distress Ink.  The background stamp from It’s More Flower Art was stamped lightly in Archival Coffee.  The sentiment from It’s Face Art was stamped in Archival Jet Black.

The actual frame portion (top) was covered with Graphic 45 An ABC Primer.  The edges were sanded and then sponged with Vintage  Photo Distress Ink.  The scalloped Art Part was painted with Black Soot Distress Stain.  The leaves were die cut with S4-328 Foliage and painted with Crushed Olive Distress Stain.

AGoodEggChallengeFlowersCloseup

All the flowers were die cut with LF-005 Grand Peony Creations.  Two from Graphic 45 An ABC Primer and dipped in melted UTEE to make Faux Porcelain.   The center blue flower is the egg carton.  It was die cut with the Peony Creations and then colored with drops of Red Pepper, Butterscotch and Juniper Alcohol Inks.  The center is black glitter that was sprinkled on Matte Accents.   Before you ask, the egg carton flower was not dipped in UTEE.  IT MELTS!  This was the second attempt at making flowers from an egg carton.  When I first opened the carton and saw the little stars that separate the eggs, I said to myself . . . FLOWERS . . . they are flowers!  So I cut them all out, colored them with red alcohol ink and thought what the hell . . . I took the heat tool to them.  I liked the way they turned dark and curled, BUT they got so thin and I didn’t like the red.  They landed in the garbage.

AGoodEggChallengeButterflyCloseup

The butterfly (not part of the challenge but I just had to show you) was die cut from GrungePaper and Studio 490 Clearly for Art.   Both pieces were die cut with the new Spellbinders LF-006 Wonderful Wings.  The bottom was sponged with Wild Honey Distress Ink and then over stamped in Archival Jet Black with the polka dots from Studio 490 More Flower Art.  The top, Clearly For Art, was heated with the heat tool to soften the Clearly For Art so I could bend the wings.  The middle is a mini clothespin that was stained black with the Black Soot Distress Stain.  Black Artistic Wire is wrapped around the clothespin for antennae.

I plan on sending this back to school with Mallory.  I had that in mind when I picked the sentiment because this is her last year and she can begin to fly.  Not that she hasn’t already!

Thanks for stopping by today, don’t forget to visit The E-Team’s blogs and I really hope you participate in the challenge.  I would love to see what you do with the egg carton!
