Smiley from millan.net There’s been no stamping here today . . . yet! But I do have something I want to share with you that I worked on this afternoon. I’ve been jewelry mode!

My family knows that I will take their old jewelry that they no longer wear or wish to keep. A friend of ours, who also cuts my mother’s and uncle’s hair, brought me a boatload of jewelry last week when they were having beauty parlor day. I got there late that day and everyone else had already gone through the jewelry that was brought to me. My sister started bragging about a watch she pulled out and when I saw it, through a fit because I knew she wouldn’t wear it and how dare she go through the jewelry when it was meant for me . . . all in good fun, it’s just the way we . . . . dibs, I’ve got dibs! I think she was have a grand time watching me pout and suffer because by the end of the afternoon I came home with the watch.

This morning I was sitting here thinking about the watch and what I could do with it. I lost my favorite watch in the airport last year, one I had gotten for my birthday . . . one of a kind . . . LOVED that watch. Since I only like to wear a watch when I’m traveling, and since I’m traveling this weekend . . . Wendy Vecchi here we come. . . .I thought I should do something with the watch.

Here’s a picture of my plan.

watch and charms

You can see the very neat watch made from old typewriter keys and lying next to it are some charms that I’ve had forever. I decided I would gather what charms I wanted to use and take them down to my favorite jewelry to have them put on. Before I headed out I decided to do some figuring on what this might cost me . . . . at the low end $5.00 per charm . . . $65.00! NOPE!! I decided I could do it myself.

I ran to the studio, pulled out the soldering tool and decided on my plan of action. Luckily I had jump rings in my bead stash and . . . .

Finished Watch

Isn’t it cool! One of a kind! No one else can ever have one like this! It’s all me! Things that have made me what I am!  Something that reminds me of who I am!

Take a look at this!  That little heart is the locket off my very first baby necklace . . . it’s old, very old . . . . 51 years old.  That head is a charm my mother had on her bracelet . . .  engraved on the back is my name and birth date.  Of course there’s a coffee cup.

Watch coffee

Here’s the Sister Locket (the one with double hearts) my sister gave me at Christmas when we found out I was going to have surgery to remove the spot of cancer.  She even put our picture in it . . . too cool!  I took it off the chain and made a charm.  You can’t see it very well, but hidden next to the watch face is my very first charm . . . a bowling pin and ball.  My aunt gave it to me when she gave me my first charm bracelet.  I might have been 10 years old.

watch sister charm

My absolute favorite charm is this one of the coffin.  It was one my aunt had on her charm bracelet and I eventually ended up with.  I’m sure it’s for my uncle who was, and always has been, a Funeral Director.  See the little skeleton behind it . . . that was Aunt Linda’s too.  The coffin is so cool and I’m guessing goes back to the early to mid 60’s.  I would love to find out more about it some day.  You push the corpse down to the life side and the lid closes over and latches.

watch coffin

I’ll continue to add to it every time I’m given or purchase a charm. I still collect them when I travel and the watch contains many of those . . . Disneyland, Arizona, Texas, Daytona Beach, Opryland, just to name a few. Some of them I’ve had since I was in my teens.

Damn isn’t the watch cool!  I’m so tickled with myself that I’m about to break my arm patting myself on the back!Smiley from millan.net

So that’s it for now.  Thanks for stopping by and look at the adventure I had today.  Remember life is short . . . .

SHERRY SIGNATURE

Good morning!  I found out two things yesterday.

First, it’s Trick or Treat night here in my city.  Now in the past when the city has done this – declare Trick or Treat night earlier than the actual date, we have the little spooks both nights.  Smiley from millan.net Their reason . . . its football playoffs and they didn’t want Trick or Treat to interfere if any of the local teams were in the playoffs.  I need to get with Daughter #1 today and see what her plans are.  When my girls were at home and out running the streets on this night, I always made a pot of chili.  My door was open to all their friends and this was the hang out house.  They would come in, grab a bowl of chili and just have fun hanging out doing their thing.  I haven’t made chili in a few years now and believe it or not, one of Kate’s friends asked if I was making chili this year.  I was actually somewhat amazed that one of them remembered and asked for chili!  I guess it wasn’t sheer torture for them after all. Smiley from millan.net

The second thing I learned yesterday, was that I will be demonstrating in the Rubbernecker Booth at the Fall Rubber Stamp Show in Albuquerque, NM on November 8 and 9.  So if you are attending the show, please stop by the booth and say hello!

Remember earlier this month when I told you I went to Nashville, Indiana with the women in my family?  I just love Nashville.  It’s an artisan colony with little shops lining the streets and always so festive for the time of year.  I wanted to go to the stamp store there, so my sister and I took off walking by ourselves.  Needless to say I wasn’t so impressed this year, and didn’t buy anything.  Earlier we had spied another stamp store I had never seen before, and that’s where we went.  WOW – what a store!  It’s called Papertrix, and the owners are Cindy and Wayne Hawrys.  I had actually seen the Hawrys at Summer CHA and recognized them.  They also recognized me from CHA.  I believe we were all in the Hanna Stamps booth at the same time actually.

I couldn’t leave the store.  I actually believe I might have been drooling a little.  Their assortment is amazing and I actually purchased some stamps for the first time in a few years.    My point?  Well, I have a project to show you with some of the stamps I purchased that day.  I saw these fabulous images from Magenta and some how, they jumped off the shelf and landed in my little (I can dream can’t I?) hands.

Butterfly NotebookI made this notebook for a dear friend recently.  Of course, I couldn’t just stop with the notebook and added a bookmark to it.  Ah soldering!  What a booger that was, but it finally worked out the way I wanted.  Yes, this is the project I was working on when I groaned in a post one day about attaching those darn little jump rings!

I suppose this is all I have today.  I’ve babbled on for long enough and it’s time for me to get up and get moving.  Chores are calling my name . . . Smiley from millan.net

As you know, I’ve become addicted to soldering. Well . . . over the weekend I was working on a project using chalk inks. When it was complete, I kept looking at it thinking okay, I can solder this and it can become

Faux Sea Glass Sun Catcher Door

A Sun Catcher!

A few days ago, I was browsing some of my favorite blogs and sites, and ran across this video tutorial by Suze Weinberg for Faux Sea Glass. I just HAD to try it. The top piece of the sun catchers is a 2″ square of Frosted Memory Glass. Instead of using pigment inks that Suze did in her tutorial, I used chalk inks. Actually I made two, one with chalk inks and one with pigment inks. I like the one with the chalk inks better, and the technique works just as well as with the pigments that Suze demonstrates. I’m not going to go into detail here. It’s all on Suze’s video. If you don’t see it right away, click one of the videos and then stop it. A panel will come up across the bottom of the screen and you can search for Faux Sea Glass.

The bottom panel is a piece of 1×3 Memory Glass that I inked the back with chalk inks and then embossed with two coats of clear UTEE. The sentiment was stamped on the front of the glass in Archival Jet Black Ink. To finish off the sun catcher, I added some wire and beads so that the sentiment panel would hang below the diamond. The hanger is double wire looped at the top so that I can hang it in my kitchen window (when it’s clean). By the way, when you solder the Faux Sea Glass, the UTEE on the front will melt, so be careful. I actually thought that the melting gave the glass a more distressed look and LOVED it!

I had a heck of a time getting decent pictures, but here is one of the sun catcher showing the actual colors of the glass.

I hope you’ll be back tomorrow, when I post the first Twisted and Demented Challenge. I am sooooooooo excited!!!! Hints: socks, swingin’ and now tails!

Have a great day!

I hope you are enjoying your Saturday! I went into the studio early this morning, and was working on a few cards when I realized that I didn’t have something I needed! Well, that called for a shopping trip. I headed out to Lowe’s, Home Depot and then ended up at Hobby Lobby! Oh my and yes, my Hobby Lobby DOES have Spellbinders! I was in shock. They don’t have Ranger Perfect Pearls, but they do have Spellbinders.

Since Mallory has one day of work left, tomorrow, she needed me to make her a card today. Her manager had a baby this summer and Mallory has had a baby gift sitting here for weeks. Why for weeks? Because she has been asking me to make a baby card for that long, and I have not either had the time or been too pooped to work on it late at night. Yesterday when Mallory mentioned the card again, I knew I didn’t have any other option than to make the card today. As you can tell, her manager had a baby girl!

Lindsey Baby Card

I colored the lamb with Copic Markers and then die cut the image with a Circle Nestability. I knew that I was going to airbrush the background, so leaving the image in the Nestability, I masked it and then airbrushed. For the background I decided to stamp some stars, instead of using designer paper. The same stars are stamped on the pink scallop panel on the front as well. For an embellishment, I made an Inchie. I stamped the bootie, colored it with Copic Markers and then over stamped the work girl. I mounted the Inchie between two pieces of 1″ Memory Glass, and then soldered the charm. I added a jump ring at the top to run the ribbon through and then tied a bow from the jump ring. I don’t think I’m ready to make fancy jewelry yet, but at least I’m still practicing with the solder. I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet. On the inside of the card, I stamped the sentiment “We can give our children two things . . . One is roots, the other is ‘wings’.”

Happy Wednesday! I’m running a bit late today. I ran a few errands with Mallory this morning to finish getting the criticals for her move back to campus. Besides, there was a necessary stop at Hobby Lobby for me! I just HAD to purchase a soldering tool. Oh yeah you heard right, a soldering tool. The only thing my husband has asked is that I be extremely careful and not burn down the house. He knows me so well!

While in Dallas last weekend, hanging with some stampin’ friends from the Hanna Stamps Design Team one of our planned activities was to learn to solder. Well, we also had some sight seeing fun too. Here we all are on the grassy knoll in downtown Dallas. We had just left the Book Depository Museum and wanted to see for ourselves if it was possible to make that shot from the square window pictured above us.

I thought it would be fun to show you the necklace I made. However, you are not going to see the first one at all (there were too many four letter words uttered), but I will show you the second one. After getting an email about the August Technique Challenge on Tim Holtz’ blog, I had an idea and just HAD to try it. So, I did – on glass instead of fragments.

Alcohol Resist Soldered Necklace

Needless to say, I’m hooked – a new addiction! I had to have my own soldering tool, beads, and all the other necessary items. Hopefully I will make vast improvements in my technique.

Before I leave you today, I would like to point out that Rubbernecker has extended the sale on the Ranger Pigment Pads and reinkers. Not only have they extended this sale, but for any order of products (rubber stamps and cling excluded) more than $25 you will receive 10% off your entire order. I so need to go shopping!

Here’s hoping you have a great day! I’m going to go organize my new soldering tools.
