Good morning!  I suppose I should say something about my recent absence . . . no motivation whatsoever.  That’s all I can say right now (more later in another post) because . . .

It’s time for The E-Team to hop! Daisy first thought of the idea for this series when she took me to Disneyland during Winter CHA.  We saw the new night-time show at Disney’s California Adventure called “Wonderful World of Color”.  Needless to say, our minds have been churning with ideas since January.  For this first hop we are using Stampavie stamps and we are to color them with our favorite medium to work with (i.e.., colored pencils, watercolors, Copics, etc.)  I’m also super excited that the Stampavie Design Team accepted our invitation and they will be joining us in this hop us!  It’s always exciting to have other companies join us . . . more art to be inspired by!

eclectic Paperie will be giving away 5 prizes during the hop.  Each winner will receive a Stampavie stamp and other eP goodies!  Winners will be chosen randomly from the comments left on all the designers (both The E-Team and Stampavie DT) blogs.  You may leave comments from today through Sunday, May 22.  The winners will be announced on the eP Blog on Monday, May 23.  All Stampavie stamps that eclectic Paperie carries have been reduced by 10% and all pre-orders for the newest releases will also be available and marked at 10% off.

Now that I have all the necessary information about the hop done, it’s time to talk about my project.  For my project, I chose to work with one of Mo Manning’s Stampavie stamps.  I have loved Mo Manning’s images from the first time I saw them online and actually I sort of twisted Daisy’s arm just a little bit (okay, a whole lot) to pick up the Stampavie line at CHA because I love Mo Manning’s images so much.   I picked Mummu’s Bike because I have been drawn to this image forever.  I can envision so many cute sentiments to go along with her, Riding by with a great Big Hi!, Riding by with a Birthday Hi!, or even simply High! (for all your tipsy friends).

While coloring this image, it finally dawned on me why I like it so well.  Mummu reminds me of my Great-Grandmother.  Okay, I don’t know that my Grandma Clopton ever road a bike (I never saw her do it), but she had long gray hair that was always in a braid.  She would wind it around at the back of head and wear it in a bun . . . at night she would take it down to the braid.  She also had the same tilt of the head and smirk as this image (maybe even the same backside).  She was a feisty little thing who played piano by ear, and loved to have all my cousins sit around and sing with her.  I loved spending vacations with her on the farm and those are some of my fondest memories!

Now for my coloring medium.  I have in my arsenal, Prismacolor Pencils, Tombow Markers, SU Markers, tubes and tubes of Watercolor paints, every color of acrylic paint you can think of, all the re-inkers for every ink pad I own, and last but not least, Copic Markers.    Even with all the other mediums at my fingertips, I always reach for my Copic Markers or Distress Re-Inkers.  It might be out of sheer laziness that I always reach for them (because they are on my desk at the ready), or that I simply like working the best with those two.

What I did for this project, is I colored the same image two different ways.  I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White for coloring with Copic Markers.  (You know that since the Copics are alcohol based, you need to use a water-based ink for your stamping.  If you don’t, the black ink will bleed.)    I also stamped the image on Canson watercolor paper with Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink (which is an alcohol-based/permanent ink and needs to be used with a water-based medium) to watercolor with Ranger Distress Re-Inkers.  I stayed in the same color families for both images.

Copic Mummu on the left, watercolor with re-inkers on the right.

I thought it would be interesting to show how one image could look so different colored with different mediums.  Not only did I stay in the same color families for the coloring, but I also used the same colors of different cardstocks and the same designer paper, Cosmo Cricket Circa 1934.  I used some of the same Spellbinders™ die templates, but changed up the third one on both the cards.  Remember we are going for a different look using the same materials, but using a different coloring medium.

Here’s the water colored card:

I love using the Distress Re-Inkers because of the way the inks float on the wet paper and keep their color.  I don’t know if you can tell by this close-up, but the sky is water colored with Tumbled Glass and I love the little bits of white that show through.  Another reason I like to watercolor.

Distress Re-Inkers used on this card are:  Barn Door, Fired Brick, Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans, Pumice Stone, Black Soot, Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, Tea Dye, Mustard Seed, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, and Scattered Straw (on the seam binding ribbon).

For both cards, the image was die cut/embossed with Oval Nestabilities (see below), but the borders were changed.  For the card above, I used the edge of the Long Scalloped Rectangle to me the border.  Did you notice the black brads on the water colored card?  They are on the second card too . . . notice their change of placement.

Here’s the Copic Marker card:

The coloring with the Copic Markers is more intense (or do I just have a heavy hand), and the blending of the dirt and grass is not as blended as with the watercolors.  The sky is not as translucent on the this card.

Here I left off a layer of the ovals and die cut/embossed the background border with Labels Twenty-One.  I also picked a red crinkle ribbon instead of using seam binding.   Same 6 brads as the other card, just moved to different corners to fit with the changed layout.  They still make that rule of 3 triangle that draws your eye to the image.

Here are the Copic Markers that I used for those of you who like to have that information.

Well that’s it for me (aren’t you glad?).  Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to visit all the other designers participating today.   I know you don’t want to miss your chance of winning one of the 5 prize packages.
