Wow I can’t believe this week is flying by and it’s already Thursday!  This morning was the first time I’ve been able to hit the studio over the last few days  . . . but I need to spend some good quality time down there the rest of today and tomorrow.  Saturday is my day to post on the eP Blog and I haven’t even started my project yet. Smiley from millan.net

While watching the Olympics I water colored some images that I stamped off on some scrap paper and could bring upstairs to work on.  I used one of those for a card today . . . Lockhart Stamp Company Petunias on the Gate, that I picked up at one of my trips to Papertrix.

LockhartGardenGate

This is one of those cards that I had an extremely difficult time find just the right ribbon.  The first I had was blue scrunched up seam binding . . . too much for the lattice dies.  I then went with an orange that matched the flowers in the image . . . not right after the photographs.  So I finally ended up adding a white satin.  I’m still not sure I’m satisfied . . . but this one worked the best.

That’s all I have for now.  Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, enjoy the adventures of your day!

Happy weekend!  I hope you’ve had a good weekend so far.  I found I had some great crafty time in the studio yesterday and I’ve almost finished my latest project with Faux Porcelain.  In the meantime however . . . some updates:

Mallory’s tests came back normal . . . so no gallbladder problems.  Needless to say, we are so antsy for someone to tell us what is wrong with her that both of us were a little disappointed.  We are back to the drawing board and starting in a new direction.

Printers Chipboard:  So many of you have sent me emails or asked here on the blog what the hell I’m talking about.  Printers chipboard is a very lightweight cardboard (much like cardboard from cereal boxes, only a little thicker).  What I have been using is .22 point.  I was desperate for a storage solution for my Spellbinder Dies, and found that I could put a full magnetic sheet on cardboard to store them in file bins.  I was running out of cardboard and needed an easy solution.  At the time, we had an office supply store in downtown Louisville called Arvey’s.  Unfortunately their parent company, xpedx, reorganized and closed our store (along with many others), and I’ve lost my source for both the Printers Chipboard and Neenah cover stock.  It was nice to go over and buy it by the ream and/or case with no shipping charges.  What I have found online so far for the printers chipboard is not my best solution (because of shipping charges) but here goes:

ULine by the case

Create For Less in packages of 25 sheets

AND THEN I just found while searching for those links this (I’m very excited because I do shop and order with them):

Scrapbook.com

To make my projects more durable, I do glue 3 or more pieces together but for die cut one piece is most often perfect.

I hope this helps with the questions on the chipboard.  If you happen to find other that I’ve missed, please let me know.  This is something I would prefer to purchase by the case.

Now for a quick project . . . I guess I’ve been in a pink mood .  . . could it be because of an expected granddaughter . . . maybe . . .

The image from Lockhart Stamp Co. was water colored with Distress Markers and then layered with the new Spellbinders™ Majestic Squares.  The seam binding was dyed with a mixture of Spun Sugar and Antique Linen Distress Inks (video tutorial).   The frame behind the image was die cut from printers chipboard with S4-291 Labels Fifteen.  The brown designer paper was adhered to the chipboard first and then die cut.

Well, I guess that’s all for me today.  I’m heading back down to the studio to work on the Faux Porcelain project . . .

Thanks for stopping by!

Good Saturday evening!  I truly meant to have this post up earlier today, but due to some family medical issues  . . . well, it just didn’t happen.

It hasn’t been a great week around here for my family and their health.  Of course, I’ve told you Mallory has been undergoing tests and we still don’t know what’s wrong.  Katie has had to increase your anti-seizure meds this week (the pregnancy has taken a toll on her levels and we can’t have her having a seizure in the later stages).  I’ve told you I’ve been spending lots of time in waiting rooms!

Some of the doctors I’ve been visiting have been with my mother, who had a biopsy on her thyroid last week.  Unfortunately, the biopsy came back abnormal and she will be seeing an oncologist in a few weeks.  Thankfully I have decided not to attend CHA  . . . I’ll be here for her next doctor’s appointment.

THEN last night, my sister and her husband were down at our riverfront for a concert and car show.  She was walking down the terraces at the waterfront to the stage, and not realizing the terrace levels were about 3 feet high, she took a step down and fell, shattering her left knee (which has also been made worse by compartment syndrome).  She was transported to our local hospital but when they realized the break was as severe as it was, they transferred her across the river to Louisville.  She had surgery this morning and will have another on Monday to deal with the wounds made to ease the muscle swelling.  They did insert pins and a rod this morning, and said that in two weeks they would go back in with screws and plates.  She has a long road ahead of her and apologized over and over today for leaving me alone to take care of mom.  Fortunately there are a few of us here, so both of them should be very well taken care of!

Keep your fingers crossed that my aunt and I stay safe and well over the next few months!  Now you know why I’ve been able to practice on Zentangle so much!

Anyhoo, here are the projects I promised that I would have.  The first is a quick card I did for Spellbinders, using one of my Karen Lockhart stamps that had not seen ink yet.

RoseOfSharonCard

The second project is the original Doorplate that I practiced on for my classes.

G45DoorPlate

I didn’t use the design because I thought the center of the heart was too plain.

So that’s it for me tonight.  I’ll be in the studio as time allows . . . I know that I’ll be using my studio playtime as “me” time to unwind!  I did have to laugh today when Carrie piped up with the fact that Mallory had to defer TFA for a reason . . . It may have been the drugs talking too!

How y’all doing today?  Finally after rain delays we are racing (while I’m typing this that is).  I have a watercolor card to share with you today.  It’s been awhile since I’ve stamped anything on watercolor paper and figured today was a good as any day to do so.

I used one of my favorite Karen Lockhart stamps (that I picked up at Papertrix last year).  The image was stamped in Ranger Archival Jet Black, and water colored with Distress Stains.  This was a first for me (the stains), and I will say it went rather quickly.  I still think the re-inkers might be more vibrant and float better, but I had to try the stains . . . at least once.

Here’s a close up of the image with all the layers, that are separated by 3D foam squares.

That’s it for now . . . because I don’t know what else to say about anything, except . . .  go Mark, go!

Smiley from millan.net Is it just me or does everyone else feel like the days, weeks and months are just flying by?  Maybe it is just me because lord help me . . . I can’t tell you what I did two days ago, let alone yesterday!  What brought this up, is that I colored some images over the weekend and for the life of me . . . I can’t remember what day that was.  I know that maybe Friday night, Saturday or Saturday night I went down to the studio to work and that was the only time I wandered in the door over the weekend.

So whatever day it was, I stamped a number of images and colored, mainly with my Prismacolor Pencils.  Since I took that class with Karen Lockhart I’ve been meaning to use my pencils more.  I’ve tried working with them recently but I wasn’t getting the look I was going after, so I’ve always thrown the images away and gone with something else.   This time I started with Copic Markers, didn’t like the results, threw them away and started over with Prismacolor Pencils.  Go figure!

One thing I learned in Karen’s class was how to work with the colored pencils without blending them.  No gamsol, baby oil or anything other than a blending pencil, if you chose to blend a little.   This fascinated me because it has always seemed so redundant to color with the pencils and then go back and blend it all out.   Which is probably why I quit working with colored pencils when I got my hands on Copics.    Anyhoo, it’s nice to have the Prismacolor Pencils back in my arsenal of medium.

Let’s get to my card . . . actually, since I’ve been talking about blending, etc., let me show you a close-up of my image . . .

Lockhart Pumpkin Close UP

Don’t look at the white areas . . . I honestly didn’t see them until I took the close-up on the macro setting.  But I love the lines you get with using the pencils.

Here’s the full card.

Lockhart Pumpkin

Here’s something interesting!  I used Soft Suede cardstock as my card base and also for the last layer of my image.  When deciding on colors of ribbon, I chose to dye seam binding with the Soft Suede ink.  Totally fascinated me that the ink color was so different from the cardstock.  Look at the oranges in that seam binding!  The leaf pin was brown that I covered with Cranberry Alcohol Ink and then wiped the excess off to leave the brown from the pin on the raised areas.

The designer paper is Memory Box Blackbird that I picked up at Papertrix on my last visit.  It’s getting close to Halloween  . . . I’ll have to make another trip up just to shop for a new Halloween decoration in the other stores.   If you are not familiar with Nashville, Indiana, you can check it out here.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a card made by me without some type of sponging.  All the edges of each piece of cardstock, including the designer paper, was sponged with Antique Linen Distress Ink.

That’s all for today, except . . . thanks for stopping by, and remember . . . life is short, embrace the adventures of your day!
