Welcome to eclectic Paperie’s ePlay Challenge – Push Your Boundaries! We’re altering our challenges in 2014, creating one, month-long challenge, increasing the prize drawing, holding a design team blog hop, and including a product discount with each new challenge!  Check out the details below:

  • We’ve combined our two challenges into one, announced on the first Thursday of each month.  This gives the design team more flexibility with challenge topics and projects and allows you more time to enter!
  • We’ll also feature a product each month, and during the first day of the challenge, you’ll receive a discount on the featured product….be sure to check for the special code!
  • Our prize drawing is increasing from $15.00 to a $25.00 gift certificate and the winner of each challenge will be announced on the last Thursday of each month and will be featured on the eP blog.
  • Each month we’ll hold a blog hop featuring the beautiful artwork from our design team…just scroll down to the bottom of the post for all of the links!  Talk about inspiration!!

Our challenges are about encouraging you to explore your creative journey and inspiring you to step outside of your comfort zone.  When you submit your artwork, share a unique card, scrapbook or journal page, a canvas, home décor project, or anything that you’re excited to share!  We’re looking forward to crafting with you!

Today’s special is on Liquitex Acrylic Gesso and Liquitex Acrylic Clear Gesso and for one day only, you can save 10% on a bottle of gesso…perfect for all of your altered projects!  Simply use code GESSO03 when checking out.

This month’s challenge is Altered Books – Gesso.

In 1979 when I first went to work as a legal secretary, I purchased two books – a legal speller and Gregg’s Reference Manual.  The legal speller was altered a year ago and became Shield My Heart.  For this month’s challenge I decided to alter the reference manual.

I began by placing the #4 die from Spellbinders® Classic Rectangles LG and taping it down to the front of the book.

AlteredBookA

Using the rectangle as a guide, the front cover and a number of pages were cut out using a utility knife.

AlteredBookB

Book binding tape was used to cover all the pages, including the inner cut edges of the rectangle.  Gesso was applied to the front and back inside pages, gluing the covers to the book pages.

AlteredBook3

The entire book was then covered with gesso, giving me a workable service for whatever this books ends up being.

AlteredBook2

As of right now, this is as far as I’ve gotten.  I ran out of time yesterday and wanted so badly to take part in this first challenge hop, that I decided you would probably be okay with seeing the beginning stages of my altered book.  I’ll be back in the next day or so with my completed project!

Thanks for joining me today and I do hope that you’ll try your hand at the ePlay Challenge and join us!

Good morning!  As I’m beginning this post, I’ve had to go back and count the months that I’ve been away from eclectic Paperie.    After 5 months of leave, I’m back!  You can find me over on the eP Blog today with a project that I’ve done for Toni’s eP Challenge this month – Do Something With a Bag!

You’ll find all the details and more photos on the eP Blog, so I hope you’ll join me there and then check out the challenge yourself!

Thanks for stopping by here today!

Project Supplies:

Good Monday morning!  I hope everyone had a great weekend and didn’t get into too much trouble.  I spent Saturday cleaning up the basement after the sump pump failure the week before (yes, we are still trying to get things moved around, stuff we don’t need tossed out, and more of the carpet out of the downstairs room of stash).   Sunday was household chore day  . . . and racing of course!

Last week was a busy week with lots of blog hops, etc., and on Saturday I not only had the Quietfire Design/Dreamweaver Stencil hop, but also had a post go live on the eP Blog.   Typically I give you more info over there, but I saved most of it for here today because most of the project was created with Spellbinders®.

TypographyHanging

The project can either be a wall hanging or with an easel back attached could be set out on a shelf.  I just received the Graphic 45 Typography Collection and couldn’t wait to make something with it.  Actually this is the first of a number of projects I have envisioned.  Love this collection!!

The base is lightweight chipboard (because its easy to die cut with Spellbinders die templates).  Three separate pieces were die cut for the bottom base and then three more for the top layer.  Once die cut, they were glued together to make a sturdier base so the project wouldn’t bend or warp.

TypographyChipboard

The sentiment is from the Typography Collection which was cut out twice, with the top trimmed and placed with foam mounting tape over the full bottom sentiment.

The flower was die cut/embossed with Bitty Blossoms.  The frame was made with Labels One.  The frame and the sentiment panels were all mounted on chipboard before cutting.  The embellishment is the new Circle Hatpin from the Spellbinders Media Mixage line.  I added some glitter and then poured ICE Resin® into the bezel.

That’s all I have today.  Hopefully I’ll be back in the next day or so (depending on studio time this week) with another project.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you’re enjoying the holiday weekend and it’s not too hot where you are.  We are sweltering here, but it didn’t put a damper on our family gathering yesterday!

Today is my day to post over on the eP Blog, and I’ve worked up a tag using Graphic 45’s French Country Collection.

As always, you can find more photos and all the details on the eP Blog.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!
