Good Saturday Evening! As I am beginning to write this post, I’m also watching the Darlington Southern 500. While watching the Nationwide Race last night, I was going through some of the dad’s NASCAR memorabilia, looking for articles or pictures of Crosley cars. Here in Louisville, maybe in the early 50s, they drove the Crosleys inside at the old Armory Building. I’ve been talking to a reporter over the last few months who is writing an article about the Crosley, and I met with him this morning to go over what I had found.

What drew my attention last night was an old program from Richmond which was talking about the Darlington races the month before. I can’t quite remember the year but I’m gonna wing it and say 1953-55. My dad was driving for Fish Carburetor then in the NASCAR Sportsman Division and he had driven in that race. I found him in the program. Junior Johnson won the race and his winnings were $1,500. My dad finished 5th and won $500.00. Oh my how times have changed. Not only the size of the purses, but they drove Hudson’s, Coupes, etc., all without the safety equipment they have now. Their helmets were nothing more than thin shells on the top of their heads with leather ear flaps and straps. They didn’t have fire suits or special shoes. They wore their street shoes and maybe a uniform they had put together . . . like my dad always wore white pants and a white long sleeve dress shirt. Darlington wasn’t even as safe as it is now . . . man those old guys had the balls.

Okay back to my actual post and card . . . I digressed! My card is for the Just For Fun® Friday Color Challenge #10. I don’t know that this is the card I envisioned, hell . . . quite frankly it’s not! But hey, I’m running with it anyway!

SherryCheeverJFFCC10May8(3)

Using Crushed Olive, Wild Honey and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks, I used the Wrinkle-Free Distress Technique on watercolor paper. I stamped the image in black and then die/cut and embossed with Oval Nesties™. That’s really about all except slapping down some paper and sewing it to a background panel of cardstock.

I hope you’ve had a great weekend so far and thanks for stopping by! My adventures have been coming fast and furious, and I’ve definitely been taken advantage of them. I hope you do too!

Hey y’all! How is everyone this fine Thursday? I truly meant to have this post up earlier, but I spent some time with my uncle today and when I realized it was 4:30 I dashed home.

I was asked by Sharon Johnson if I would like to participate in the Stamp Simply 138 Challenge this week, and since I have decided to challenge myself with clean and simple, I said YES! (Don’t worry I’m not giving up my signature style, just challenging myself to get the mojo Smiley from millan.net going.) Here’s the catch however . . . I’m posting early. All the other designers will be posting later tonight around midnight or so but I have my Just For Fun® Friday Color Challenge tomorrow and Sharon said it was okay if I posted early.

The challenge this week is Mother’s Day . . . to either create a Mother’s Day card or a feminine card. I used the JustRite Beautiful Blossoms Set, colored the flowers pink and kept the card simple. I did however add the faintest bit of sponging and stitching.

Smiley from millan.net Good Saturday morning! I hope your weekend has started off with a bang Smiley from millan.net. . . mine sure has! Today I finally get to tell you my big surprise . . . . I’m the May Guest Designer for Crafty Secrets! I’ve been talking with Sandy for some time now about guest designing, and we finally got it all together. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be working with Crafty Secrets for the next month.

All week long Crafty Secrets has been celebrating National Scrapbooking Day and even though I’m coming into the game late, I wanted to play along with the Design Team today in their Photo Challenge. Vicki, Heidi, Linda, Melissa, Michelle and Flo will all be posting $50.00 Crafty Secrets Giveaways and you just need to leave a comment to be entered (and an email address in case you win).

I used a photo today from the Girlfriends Images & Journal Notes for my card.

And then the inside.

Old Friend Inside

A perfect birthday card for one of my mother to send to one of her friends!

Once I had this card together, the left top looked a little bare to me so I went searching through my button collection. I love it when I find old buttons with the thread still attached!

That’s it for my big news today . . . what a great adventure! I hope you have a fabulous weekend and thanks for stopping by! Remember, life is short . . . . Enjoy the adventures that come your way!

Good Friday morning!  I hope y’all have had a good week and are looking forward to the weekend.  It’s Kentucky Derby weekend here in Louisville and so far I’ve been able to avoid all the hullabaloo and such.  By the time the Derby Festivities are over here (with all the morning news reporting from trackside, etc.) you really get burned out.  I don’t even have a pick this year . . . and can think of lot better things to do with $5 across the board or a $10 box.

Since today is Friday, it’s also Just For Fun® Friday – Color Challenge #9.  This week I’ve challenged the Design Team, and you, to use the following colors:

JFFCC9

I hope you play along this week and post a direct link to your project using Mr. Linky on the Just For Fun® Blog.

Here’s my card for this week using my inspiration for the challenge colors, Graphic 45 A Proper Gentleman.

I decided to make some Inchie Art since I hadn’t played around with inchies for quite some time.  I stamped out the 2 cars from JFF and then die cut/embossed using the 1” square from the Spellbinders™ Square Nesties.  To add some texture to the inchies, I covered all three with Rock Candy Crackle Paint.  When it was dry, I sponged Old Paper Distress Ink over the cracks.

Being a masculine card, no bows but a knot, and plenty of brads!  The twill was so clean compared to the rest of the card, that I dirtied it up with a tad bit of Old Paper and water and then swiped some Vintage Photo across it.

Don’t forget to visit the JFF Designers participating in the Challenge for further inspiration:

That’s all I have for now, but check back tomorrow because I think I might have a nice new adventure to tell you about!  See, you have to take advantage of adventures that come your way because life is too damn short!

Good Thursday morning!  Wow I totally missed hump day all together.  To be honest with you after 3 days of cleaning, moving Mallory’s stuff, etc., it really felt good yesterday to sit on my butt and let my leg and back muscles rest.  They were a little sore and tired. I was still busy . . . I had plenty of phone calls to make, emails to answer and just general behind the scenes things to do. I feel a little better now that some of those chores are out of the way!

I’ve had an idea in my head for a few weeks using a sentiment stamp and I thought last night would be a good time to work on. The only thing is, once I got my idea down on paper . . . I hated it! AND to make matters worse, the little flower I wanted to add didn’t even enter into the picture. Oh well . . . . what CAN I say! Maybe the original idea will eventually make it to paper and ink.

Anyhoo, here’s the project that ended up partially the way I had envisioned it.

SherryCheeverDanceInTheRainApril29(4)

The papers are Webster’s Pages Postcards from Paris that were stitched to a cream background. I used the same cream then for all the other accents and the image on the card. The background of the sentiment is a floral image that I inked with both Tumbled Glass and Bundled Sage, bouncing and rocking the stamp pad on the image. I didn’t want it very dark so I lightly placed in the stamp on the paper and quickly brought it back up. The sentiment is stamped in Coffee Archival ink to match the designer paper. I once again used a lightweight coaster covered in the designer paper to make my frame around the sentiment.

Well, I hope y’all have a good day and thanks for stopping by, and remember  . . . life is short, enjoy the adventures of the day!
