Happy weekend.  It doesn’t feel like the weekend  to me but hey . . . I’ll go with the flow.  Today I finally ventured into the studio to put all the crap (and some GOOD stuff too) away that I lugged home from CHA.   GOOD stuff = Graphic45 papers, Unity stamps, Maya Road embellishments, out right FUN play things!  Crap = lanyards, catalogs, buttons, blah blah blah!

While I was sorting and storing, I decided to get a little crafty. The Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo Group has started to have challenges and the first one is this week – – Making Art! Challenge #1 – – Make an ATC using scallops and a butterfly.  All of the challenges will be based off projects in Wendy’s books.

So here’s my submission.

SherryCheeverMakingArtATCFebruary5(4)

Since I used Studio 490 stamps on the flowers I posted before, I decided to add one to the ATC (hey a girl can take a shortcut every now and then).  The base of the ATC is illustration board that I covered with Ranger Inkssentials ATC Sticky-Back Canvas.  I colored the canvas with the Wrinkle Free Distress Technique using Dusty Concord and Tumbled Glass.  I added some extra Dusty Concord around the edges before I finished them off with Vintage Photo and then gave the entire canvas a spritz of Turquoise Perfect Pearls Mist.

While at CHA I watched Wendy work with her Clearly for Art line and knew that I had to have some.  The butterfly is composed of two pieces . . .  the bottom is GrungePaper and the top is Clearly for Art Modeling Film with the image stamped on it as well.  Too darn cool!

The frame is die cut from illustration board using Spellbinders™ Rectangles.  The stamping is the background from Studio 490 It’s More Flower Art and the sentiment is from Art-Fully Said.

I’ve my 7 Gypsies ATC Carousel sitting on my desk for months now waiting for me to be inspired with an ATC.  This is my first one for my carrousel.

That’s all for now I suppose.  I hope you have a great weekend and remember . . . life is short, embrace the adventures of the day!

Remember when I told you that I had some ideas for projects that I needed to put ink to?  Well, today’s project is one of those.

I love projects that you get totally lost in and feel like you accomplished something when you are finished and hat’s how I feel with this project.  I went into the studio yesterday morning and it was 9:30 last night when I looked up and realized I had spent in the entire day working on this project!  Of course, there were some trial and error things that happened, but you know what?  I didn’t even care . . . . I simply tossed them aside and started over!  It was too much fun!!!

I first started with a 5×7 stretched canvas that I covered with gesso . . . . uh it’s on the floor somewhere!  Not being daunted by it, I then reached for a flat 5×7 canvas (no gesso this time).

CanvasCloseUp

What’s fun about this canvas is I actually tried the Wrinkle Free Distress Technique on it.  It worked, but I didn’t get the end results that I truly wanted so I ended up misting the canvas with Gold Perfect Pearls and water and then the ink float more across the canvas.  I was after a softer look.

I also need to tell you that the canvas itself was the last thing I worked on.  I made all the different elements first, deciding on the colors and style and putting them all together.  It was after all the little things were done, that I actually inked up the canvas.

Sadly the photo above doesn’t show it . . . the wings are covered in gesso that I textured in a feathery motion to actually look like wings.

I love these roses.  I stamped the rose image out on GrungePaper first and then over stamped the polka dots in Snow Cap pigment ink.  I let the white dry and then cut out the individual pieces before deciding what color the roses would actually be.

RoseCloseUp

The bird cage is arched over the face and fastened down on either side with 1/8” Score Tape.  Boy it really holds things down!  I actually used it on a number of items on the canvas.  There’s a 1-1/2” piece under the face, holding it down behind the bird cage.

FaceCloseUp

Speaking of which . . . the face.  I actually covered a small piece of GrungeBoard with Snow Cap pigment ink before I stamped the image.  It was then cut out and water colored with Distress Re-Inkers to add some color, lipstick and eye shadow.  The white ink softened the gray color of the GrungeBoard and then let me add some more fleshy tones (like tea dye) for the skin.  She even has a tiara one . . . can you see it?

The beads on the bottom of the bird cage are from an old pair of earrings that I had in my stash.  Thank goodness for family and friends that pass along old jewelry they no longer wear or want!

For added humor, I stuck in tickets for The Tubes.  I think of a water slide when I think of the tubes, and water better way to fly (well maybe first class)!

Happy Labor Day!  Well, I have to show you what I did.  never one to leave well enough alone . . . I totally “f’d” this one up.

cast3

now I’m thinking I need to paint the whole thing black, add some gold chains and kick some butt!

Can you tell what I did?

some purple alcohol inks, some rock candy stickles . . . hated it.  Decided then to wipe it down with blending solution and it still looks like crap.  last night while watching the race I was filing my nails and the nail file slipped.  can you see some white areas?

Cindy I like your idea of dollhouse furniture!  How long will it take you to get here?

One more thing before I go . . . Today is the last day to take advantage of the Labor Day Discount code at eclectic Paperie

I know, you don’t have to tell me . . . BAD girl that I am . . . I am such an enabler.  BUT seriously . . . I have a project to show you and I would hate for you to miss out on these great Maya Road canvas tags!   Here’s why!

UnitySuziBluBROKEmyHEART

So how did this tag become to be?  I was at CHA in the Maya Road booth and saw the tags.  I had already been in the Unity Stamps booth and had fallen in love with the new Suzi Blu stamps.  Daisy and I asked if we could try something with the tag and they very graciously gave us one.  We ran back to the Unity booth, told them of our plan and there we had it . . . a canvas tag stamped with a Suzi Blu stamp.  I‘ve hesitated in uploading this because eclectic Paperie is still waiting on their shipment of Suzi Blu stamps.  I’m having faith that since I’ve now posted it, they will be arriving any day now and Daisy will let me know so I can order some!  You know . . . it’s like waiting for your dinner to arrive in a restaurant, you finally give up and go to the bathroom and when you get back . . . your dinner was served!

This image was water colored with Distress Ink re-inkers, and I can’t wait to try it with some acrylic paints.

SEE why I said I didn’t want you to miss out on the canvas tags

That’s all I have for now.  Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, take advantage of the adventures that some your way!
