Happy Wednesday! We have the wildest storms last night. I was just getting ready to wind my day up and head off to bed, when the tornado warning came across the television screen. I had no idea the weather was like it was! I had been down stamping some and when I came up I turned on the Hallmark Channel. It wasn’t too long after I saw the warning on television, that the tornado siren at the end of my street sounded. I love to watch storms! I love the lightening, the wind, the rain – they just fascinate me. But last night, for the first time in years, I had a funny gut feeling. After the second siren sounded, I pulled the pups out of the kennel and we went to the basement. They were a little scared too and we all huddled together under blankets watching the local news. Finally about 12:30 a.m., our tornado warning expired and there was an all clear. Thankfully we escaped any damage. Others to the southwest of us were not so lucky.

I don’t know what came over me. Maybe it was the thought that my girls aren’t here and I was worried about them – I don’t know! But I’ve not had a feeling like that since Kate and Mallory were very young. I used to send them to the basement to play trying not to scare them, and then I would stand at the window and watch the storm. Not last night!

Anyhoo, I’m not going to have time this morning, if at all, to get to today’s Sketch Challenge. Today’s is my mother’s birthday – – and we are supposed to go to lunch and then I NEED to shop for my trip to CHA.

While I was working with Far East from Lizzie Anne Designs over the weekend, I did make another card that I can share with you today.

Friends Always

The lotus flowers were stamped on white cardstock in Aspen Mist and then the design was over stamped with Niagara Mist. I cut the flowers out and placed them individually on a piece of vanilla cardstock, that the edges had been sponged with Niagara Mist. The edges of all the designer paper were sponged in Niagara Mist and the sentiment was stamped in Espresso. The designer paper layers were sewn to a background panel and then put on the card front.

Stamps: Far East by Lizzie Anne Designs

Paper: SU Whisper White, Very Vanilla and Basic Gray; Prism Island Mist Light; BasicGrey Blush

Ink: VersaMagic Aspen Mist and Niagara Mist; Adirondack Espresso

Accessories: Sewing Machine, Tsukineko Sponge Dauber, Sanding Block, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Mounting Tape, Ribbon

For those of you who like to see the product, here’s the photo. I often wonder if you like me showing a picture of the product. There are times I feel that it might be overload and then I think that I personally would love to see what is being talked about. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you like the product photo or would you prefer not to have it?

Friends Always Product

The stamps are from Lizzie Anne Designs and all other product can be found at Rubbernecker Stamp Company.

  1. glad to hear you are ok! YIKES! When living in NE I remember those sirens….but then I was a collage student so it was fun to hang out with the campus in the basement of the girls dorm….as a mom I think I would have that funny feeling in my gut too!!
I personally like the pics of the products….gives me a visual if I just happen upon them (oh yeah…this is what she used!)

  2. Happy to hear you are safe and sound! I love the pictures — so happy when you started doing this!

  3. Oh my, sounds like you had a pretty scary night. So glad you are alright! Your card is absolutely beautiful and I love the pictures of what you used! I vote to keep it!

  4. I personally like to see the product. You are one of the few blogs I read that does this and I so enjoy seeing so I don’t have to go to another website unless I am inspired to purchase.

  5. I’m so glad that you are safe! I know exactly what you mean about that “uneasy” feeling once your kids are gone. We lose the control of protecting them once they leave the nest. I suspect you will always worry about them – part of being a mom, I guess.

I LOVE the card and also really appreciate when you post the picture of what you use – these pictures have inspired many a shopping spree, either online or at my LSS. Thanks, Sherry!

  6. I love that you show us the products that you used. that is something that I am really bad at doing. Please continue to include the products. You also use lots of products that I am unfamiliar with, so having a visual really helps.

    Tamara 🙂

  7. {{SHERRY}} How scary!!! Tornado’s are my biggest fear in life…I cannot imagine hearing a siren go off! I am so glad you and your family were okay! 🙂 Your card is absolutely gorgeous! I love it, I think the product picture is nice too!

  8. Sherry,
Your story hit home for me, with two small girls…
and I LOVE this card! I have both the LA set and that great paper, and now I want to play with the combination (for my own use of course — never for gain ;^)* I didn’t realize HOW WELL they went together (duh!)

I love the photos mainly when there is a whole set that you used only part of — then it really does help me to see what is there without traipsing around the internet. I like seeing the bundle of copics when used, because often it makes me realize that I can pick colors that seem “out of my comfort zone” and they will work well together. Seeing the visual of an ink that I don’t own is also nice, so when it is out on a table at a friend’s house, I have a better sense of it from cards I might have seen here. Seeing a stamp mounted on a block can often give me a better sense of size, so yeah, I guess it is useful.
Thanks for a GREAT blog with so much inspiration!

  9. I love the smiley of the trap door. lol when I saw it. I like the pics of the products. LOVE the card!!!!!

  10. I love to see the product photos, please keep them. Also like it when bloggers photograph the copics that they’ve used too, much better than a list, its nice to see the colours. Love your cards, I really envy your talent. Andrea

    Hugs from Oklahoma…Dee

  14. I LOVE this card!!!

  15. oh my word I don’t know what I would have done. I was scared for you just reading your write up and Iknew it was over and you were safe. And after a night like that you were still able to post a most beautiful card!

  16. I love this card too! 🙂

  17. Gorgeous card, layout, embellishments — everything! I’m new to your blog but I like the product photos, for what it’s worth.

  18. This is stunning! And I love that you show a pic of the product! Glad you and your family are safe. I have never been that close to a tornado and don’t wish to be…I was scared just reading your post and I KNEW you were ok…yikes.

  19. I love your card and I am so darn thankful you were safe from that storm. Ugh!

  20. Hi Sherry,

I’ve never been where there’s been a tormado warning, but imagine it must be VERY scary. I’m glad you are OK.

I have a question – and this may sound silly, but how did you do the overstamping without the image getting into the “white” areas in the flower?

    The card is wonderful. TFS

  21. First, you always, always, always hit that basement when the sirens go off!! Don’t go look out the windows & don’t wait! I know from experience.
    Second, I LOVE this card!
Third, I really like that you show the products you use. I hope you’ll continue doing this.

  23. I am so glad that you guys are ok! I personally love to the pictures of the products that you used. I’m a very visual person…

  24. Happy to hear all is ok. The weather here is crazy as well. Love this card. It is so elegant and pretty. TFS 🙂

  25. Hey Sherry, now I know why that stamp room got moved downstairs! lol Glad to hear you and the puppies are safe…Lance, too.

Love the card, as usual and keep the product pictures coming–it’s great to see just what’s being talked about if one isn’t knowledgeable about a product and the variant shades of Copics for coloring.

Tell your Mom “Happy birthday,” and have a safe trip to California this weekend!

    Hugs,
    Sharon

  26. I love that you show the photo of what products you use!! That way, when I go to shop, I am sure I get exactly what I wanted!!
So happy you weathered the storm okay!!!! I know what you mean about scary!!! I live in Southern Illinois, and I spent the evening in the hall, under a blanket, laying on the floor with my dog watching Super Tuesday coverage and the weather!! My husband was out of town and I was kind of freaked out!! Nothing really happened here either, but it is so sad what happened in Tenn.

  27. Very glad to learn that you are ok after hearing about hte storms on the news. No terrible weather like that in MA. just more snow and ice again!

I love seeing the different products. Sometimes A visual is nice when you are searching for something new that you heard about.

  28. Glad to hear you all made it through the storm in top shape. I have a great uncle/great aunt in Mountain View, Arkansas that didn’t – their home was completely demolished. Fortunately they were in Alabama when it happened.

Anyway, I love to see a picture of the products you used. It’s a great way to see new things!

  29. Thank God you are OK and our prayers are out to those who need them now. Wow, I would have been a complete basket case. Me and my kitties don’t do well in storms and my house is nothing but windows! By All Means, keep showing us the products you use. Those of us who are just beginning to get into stamping need and appreciate the guidance. Thanks for taking the time to do this and for posting such clear and defining instructions on the construction of each of your pieces of art!

  30. I’m not far from you (I think) — I’m in Cincinnati — and I didn’t realize how bad the weather was until my FIL mentioned the storm sirens. And we didn’t even hear them! Scary stuff!

  31. I love knowing what products you used! Please keep this feature in!

  32. Hi Sherry …. I love this new set by Lizzie Anne Designs 🙂 And please keep your feature of posting a product photo, of what you used to create your cards. A lot of times after reading your post, I think “Wow how much stuff do I need to case your creation” …. then I see the photo, and realize I’ve got everything and it only took a few items 😉
It’s a great visual and I do appreciate the extra time and effort it takes for you to add this to your Blog. -{{HUG}}-

  33. This is beautiful, Sherry! The paper sure goes nicely with the lotus flowers. You know, I want to buy these inks just because the names are so pretty. I like the pictures of the products. I’ve referred to them many times after reading your description. I’ve actually gone to the Rubbernecker site to try to buy something (that was out of stock) and referred back to your picture to make sure I was choosing exactly the right product. I’m glad the storm passed you by. Like you, I love a good storm but I think I could do without a tornado!

  34. Love the products pictures – helps to set in my mind exactly everything that is used – so I say KEEP the pics! Loved the lotus card – it is really beautiful.

  35. I absolutely love to see the products used and read the entire recipe for names of stamps etc. Your card is gorgeous. Glad you are safe, I have been in 4 tornados and I don’t in tornado alley, but 3 in a cottage, not a sturdy house, that were very severe and scarry. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
