I guess I don’t need to tell you that I’m totally hooked on Zentangle.  It has become relaxation and quiet time for me, whether I’m home or away.  When I’m working on a project, and remember to breathe and not grip the pen sooooo tight, I can feel my shoulders relaxing and a calm come over me.  Which makes it a perfect craft for taking along in your purse or tote.

Instead of bombarding you with tangles that I’ve done throughout the week, I thought it would be a great idea to start a new feature here on the BAD Side.  From now on (well when there’s not a hop or frenzy the same day), Tuesday will  from now on be “Tangle Time Tuesday!”  I hope you enjoy the projects as much as I enjoy making them.  I also hope that some of you decide to join in on the fun.  I’ve read that some of you have tried Zentangle, want to try or actually love it as much as I do.  So let’s try this!  (Spur of the moment decision here)  I’ll put an InLinkz collection at the end of this post and then you can play along with me and post a link to your project below.    We’ll try this for awhile and see what happens . . . sound like fun?

Here are a couple of my favorites that I’ve done over the last few weeks.  The first is one of my journal pages (I purchased a new Moleskin journal to carry with me and basically to practice in.)

ZENTANGLE10

The next one is also from my journal.  Sadly it looks like I got a little carried away with the stump when I was shading.  I’ve been using a paper stump (like we use with Gamsol and colored pencils) for shading my pencil marks to add depth to the Tangle.

That’s it for me today.  Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to seeing what you create and link up!

Good Monday morning!  Thanks goodness that we’ve finally had a little rain and the temperatures have cooled.  Hopefully I’ll be able to get out and walk the dogs this week and get some much needed exercise.  It’s also going to be a very busy week with doctor appointments for most everyone in the family.  Mallory’s is coming up Tuesday and maybe, just maybe, they’ll be able to tell us why she still has this cough . . . I’m not holding my breath on this one though . . .

Anyhoo, moving on from family medical issues . . .

I’ve had a couple of LaBlanche stamps for some time now and not once have I ever done anything with them.  I’ve had an idea running through my head for a couple of weeks and decided it was time to do it . . .

One of my favorite techniques from a few years ago was Cracked Glass.  I loved making card with this technique and over time, I’ve just gotten out of the habit of doing some of my well loved techniques.  I decided that yesterday was the day and I paired the technique with this image from LaBlanche Stamps.

LeBlancheCloseUpCrackedGlass

Let’s start with the image.  It was stamped on Arches Hot Press Watercolor Paper in Archival Coffee and then water colored with Tombow Markers.  Even though it is very difficult to see, once the image was die cut/embossed with Spellbinders Classic Ovals it was very lightly stenciled with Antique Linen Distress Ink.    The panel was then inked with Distress Embossing Ink and probably covered in oh . . .  5 or 6 layers of Ultra-Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE).    To make the cracking easier, I placed the embossed panel in the freezer until it started to curl.  Once the panel was straightened, it formed cracks.  Don’t you just love how the image cracked right in the butt   . . . trust me, not intentional!  Sadly, all the layers of UTEE make the image pale compared to how it looked before . . . there is actually blue water colored in the background . . . it disappeared to somewhere.  The cracks were enhanced by rubbing Gathered Twigs Distress Ink over them, with the excess being wiped away.

If you are unfamiliar with this technique, you can find a tutorial here under the Resources on Splitcoaststampers.   Maybe someday I’ll quit being lazy and break out the video camera and remake some tutorials of my favorite techniques for you.

LeBlancheCard

Because the flowers in the image were water colored with a pale lavender, I picked Prima Garden Collection paper to use at the background.   I tried a couple different colors of ribbon too, but finally decided that this Buttery Gold May Arts Silk was perfect and brought out the butterfly and the flower centers.

Oh and the card is also a different height for me . . . 4.5 x 7”.  Haven’t made one of these for a very long time!

Well, that’s all for me right now.  Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, embrace the adventures that come your way today!

Project Supplies:

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve had tons of time to practice Zentangle.  I keep teaching myself new tangles, and practicing with each one I do.  I’ve found a site, TanglePatterns.com, which is excellent!  There are hundreds of patterns with samples and links to how to draw them.  I’ve also picked up more Zentangle Books from Dick Blick, along with some extra Sakura Micron Pens.  Delivery was really quick and the prices were some of the cheapest that I found.

For your inspiration . . .

I only gave you three today . . . still more to come, but my camera is acting funky.

Wow it’s been a while since I posted!  I’ve finally settled down a little this weekend and allowed myself some studio time.

Before I get to today’s project, let me fill you in over the past week.  My sister, Carrie, returned home last night after a weeks stay in the hospital.  Unfortunately, my brother-in-law had to take her back overnight because she couldn’t breathe . . .  it ends up she has pneumonia . . . but it back at home for a few days.  She had 3 surgeries last week to correct the Compartment Syndrome, and finally on Thursday they were able to stitch up the last fasciotomy.  Her next surgery is on Wednesday, when they will try and fix the tibia . . . I’m assuming that is, if she can withstand another surgery with the pneumonia.  Why they didn’t keep her in the hospital is beyond me (more than likely the insurance company said enough is enough, send her home).  I myself first thought it would be good for her to come home for a few days since her room was on the top floor and it was like 90+ in her room.  Very little air and outside it’s sweltering.

Anyhoo, that’s all the medical updates I have right now . . .  next week holds more doctor visits for other members of the family . . .

I’ve had lots of Zentangle Time . . . .

I’ve made lots of Zentangles . .  . .

I need to take pictures . . .

In the meantime, here’s a little card I worked up today.

FloralBackground(3)

Sadly it’s hard to tell how all the colors really are in this photo.  The image was embossed with Queen’s Gold Embossing Powder and then water colored with Distress Inks.  I used the new Spellbinders™ Card Creators for the background image and the red layer of the card.  I cut the base of the card at 4.25” to work with the die template.  I haven’t made a card this size in I don’t know how long!

I didn’t try to be very neat with the water coloring, letting the paper show through in spots and going out of the lines in others.  It was one of those fast, not much detail painting things.

I guess that’s all for now.  Thanks for stopping by today!
