Happy Tangle Time Tuesday!    I can hardly believe it’s been a week already, but when I took photos of my tangles earlier, I had more than 7 for the month already.  Guess I’ve been doodling lots during the Olympics  . . . and too brain dead to do much of anything else.

Before I start with my projects today, I’ve been reading your comments about framing some of these Zentangle projects.  Great idea and I’ve been meaning to do just that.  I have three 5×5 frames hanging in my kitchen with some old cross-stitch pieces in them and I keep looking at them thinking. . .

BUT, I decided I wanted to make a new one with chipboard.  I got it started yesterday, it took a spin into a different direction than I planned (don’t know how it’s going to turn out . . . might be filed in the shit can before it’s all over) . . . and it’s not complete yet.  SO, you won’t get to see a frame today.

oh wait, on a personal note:  sister is doing great and working with PT, mom’s thyroid was benign so we were doing the in the doctor’s office yesterday!  Mallory?  That’s another story and one we are still working on!  Into the last trimester on the new grandbaby . . .

Good morning all . . . I am awash in a coffee bath morning and I’m running late with my post.  I wasn’t going to actually make it this morning, but then I saw Micki reference it up on her blog . . . so here I am.

I’ve done a number of Zentangles over the last week, but alas I have no photos taken and nothing recent to post.  However, I do still have some that I did prior . . .

My mother had thyroid surgery yesterday for Hurthle Cell Neoplasm and we are on our way back to the hospital this morning to hopefully bring her home after some monitoring last night.    Things look good . . . that’s all I can say right now until we have results from the biopsy (which will be a week give or take).

Good Tuesday morning!  It’s time for another tangle and this week I’ve experimented a little.

First let me show you the thread that I started with.

I will admit that I drew this one a little sloppy because I was in a hurry to get this post done and remembered at the last minute that I wanted to show the thread.

Here’s the first project that I did with this thread.

After I finished it, It dawned on me that it would look really cool done in color BUT I didn’t want to color this version.

Now before I show you the watercolor version, I need to share a little background with you.  I’m sure most of you have read where I’ve talked about my dad and stock car racing . .  . he drove in the original NASCAR Sportsman Division on the Old Beach Course well before Daytona International and Darlington were built.  Actually, he drove in the first race at Darlington and if I’m recalling correctly, he finished 5th to Junior Johnson’s first place finish.  Anyhoo, I digress . .  . after his racing career ended, he became a Race Director/Promoter at our local track, Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville, Kentucky.  During the summers I would work at the track either in the office (during the week days) and then on race nights I would work in the souvenir stand.  One year a son of one of the drivers asked if I could draw him a picture of his dad’s car.  Having just finished my first year at college and in particular some art classes that I truly loved, I decided to do him a pen and ink/watercolor drawing of the car.  I sat the picture up in the stand waiting for him to come by that Friday night, and would you believe that by the time I left the track I had orders for 10 more of other drivers.  That’s how I earned my college money that summer . . . doing pen and ink drawings that I water colored of the race cars.  Great money at the time!

So taking myself back some 35 years, I decided to watercolor the pen and ink tangle with Distress Markers.  Oh My BADness . . . what fun!!

It’s amazing how cool it looks water colored, but what’s even better is the fact that I used the same thread, the same tangles and it looked so different from just that.

I want to thank everyone who has linked up your own Zentangle/Tangle projects to show!  I’ve had a great time looking at what you are doing and hope that you continue to link up . . . cause I wanna see!

Maybe this week you can try the same thread and see what you come up . . . AND then you can come back and post a link to your project!  It might be fun to see the difference we all come up with.

Good morning y’all!  It’s time for another Tangle Tuesday.  From the comments left and some emails I received, I can tell lots of y’all are interested in Zentangle.  I’ve been sitting on my fingers trying not to upload more over the last few days.

plus there are so many zentangle/zendoodling blogs out there all you need to do is search on zentangle, doodle, zendoodle . . . you won’t believe the hits you come up with.

My friend, Micki Harper, mentioned in her blog post that she had cut up some watercolor paper to use for her doodling.  I tried it . . . I used hot press watercolor paper because it is smoother and doesn’t have all the grooves of regular watercolor paper . . . I cut it up in 3.5” squares and tried a couple of those.  It works great!

What I’ve learned over the last little bit just practicing.  I like to have a fine 01 or 03 pen for drawing but I like a broader tip, 05 or 08 for coloring in the black areas.  I have only one paper stump that I use over and over, but I can see where a couple would be handy.  If you are a golfer (or someone else in family is), those golf pencils picked up at all the pro shops are perfect . . . they are small so they can go in your pencil or Zentangle bag easy.    Zentangle doesn’t have to be perfect . . . none of my lines are . . . and I’ve messed up my share of squares . . .  things can be fixed by shading or maybe changing your design a little.

I guess I don’t need to tell you that I’m totally hooked on Zentangle.  It has become relaxation and quiet time for me, whether I’m home or away.  When I’m working on a project, and remember to breathe and not grip the pen sooooo tight, I can feel my shoulders relaxing and a calm come over me.  Which makes it a perfect craft for taking along in your purse or tote.

Instead of bombarding you with tangles that I’ve done throughout the week, I thought it would be a great idea to start a new feature here on the BAD Side.  From now on (well when there’s not a hop or frenzy the same day), Tuesday will  from now on be “Tangle Time Tuesday!”  I hope you enjoy the projects as much as I enjoy making them.  I also hope that some of you decide to join in on the fun.  I’ve read that some of you have tried Zentangle, want to try or actually love it as much as I do.  So let’s try this!  (Spur of the moment decision here)  I’ll put an InLinkz collection at the end of this post and then you can play along with me and post a link to your project below.    We’ll try this for awhile and see what happens . . . sound like fun?

Here are a couple of my favorites that I’ve done over the last few weeks.  The first is one of my journal pages (I purchased a new Moleskin journal to carry with me and basically to practice in.)

The next one is also from my journal.  Sadly it looks like I got a little carried away with the stump when I was shading.  I’ve been using a paper stump (like we use with Gamsol and colored pencils) for shading my pencil marks to add depth to the Tangle.
