Good morning! I’ve got a few things for you today, but I will be back a little later. First, it is Treasure Hunt Tuesday at Rubbernecker! A few of you have emailed me this week and said that today will be your first Treasure Hunt! Have fun shopping and then let me know what you got. You can find the first clue and all deets on the Rubbernecker Home Page. Kittie and Broni both are offering up some Rubbernecker Blog Candy today and you will want to pop over to their blogs to check it out.

Second, I just found out last night that Rubbernecker needs some help at the Hartford, Connecticut show. If you are available July 12-13 and would like to work in the Rubbernecker Booth at the Rubber Stamp and Scrapbook Expo, please send me an email or leave a comment on this post.

I haven’t been able to squeeze in a Color Challenge for a few weeks now, so I’m hoping to get to do the SCS Challenge today and will be back to edit my post.

Well, I’m back! Today are Primary Elections here in Indiana, and I wanted to make sure that I got out to vote. Mallory went with me, since this is the very first election she could participate in. It was rather exciting for me to be with my youngest daughter the first time she voted. We went over the ballot in the paper before we left so that she would know how to mark it (not who to vote for, but what she needed to do). I’m definitely a proud mom today!

When we got home, the SCS Color Challenge had been posted, and I was ready to go to work. The colors today, Certainly Celery, Pretty in Pink and Lovely Lilac, at first had me stumped. Then I remembered that I needed to make one more Mother’s Day card, the one that I myself would send to my mother.

CC165

The image was stamped with Black Soot Distress Ink and then colored with Copic Markers. The edges were sponged with Lake Mist. To make the background panel, I chose Certainly Celery, and stamped the same flower image in Distress Embossing Ink. Once that had dried, I stamped a second background of script in Lake Mist over the flowers. For the sentiment, I stamped the script background on white and then stamped the sentiment over the top and cut it out with rectangle Nestabilities. For inside of the card, I picked a white linen paper and stamped the sentiment “God could not everywhere, and therefore he made Mothers.”

Oh and right as I was finishing up this post, I got email notification from Leslie Miller’s Blog, Running with Scissors. Leslie used the same stamp today and both cards are entirely different! You’ve got to check out her card.

NEW SIG

I have finally finished today’s Color Challenge on Splitcoast. It’s only taken me all day! I colored the image once, had it ready to go and messed it up. I started all over, had a few interruptions, and finally got it finished after dinner.

CC161

I stamped the image, and colored it with Copic Markers. As I was working on the background, it occurred to me that it might be fun to add a sand trap around the green. Uphill green, sand in front — makes for one tough hole. If you under hit – you’re in the sand, over hit – you’re down the other side. I’ve played a few holes like this before. You hit the ball, hope it’s going to hit the green and stick. With any luck, if it rolls anywhere, it stays somewhere just off the fringe. The background paper was sewn to a panel of green cardstock and then layered on blue. The twill tape was sewn to the card front and then the edges were fringed. I added a few dots around the border of the sentiment and both the image and the sentiment are raised on mounting tape.

Happy Tuesday morning! Today is the day, April 1st, and Rubbernecker Stamp Company releases KK Originals today! KK Originals is a unique and fresh line of stamps by Kathy Kaberline, designed with her own unique twist. Rubbernecker Stamp Company has acquired distribution rights to this diverse line and we are so excited to be working with the images.

It’s also Treasure Hunt Tuesday at Rubbernecker today. You’ll have to follow the clues to find the treasure, and I have the first clue. Your search will begin in the Flower Collection of KK Originals. Treasure Hunt Blog Candy is being offered by Shelly and Candy today. You’ll want to visit their blogs to see more KK samples and to leave a comment for blog candy. If this is your first visit on a Treasure Hunt Tuesday, you can find all the details on the Rubbernecker Home Page.

My card today is made with three different images from KK Originals.

KK Flourish Bday

The bouquet was stamped in Adirondack Pitch Black and then colored with Copic Markers. To make the frame, I cut the image out and embossed it with a square Nestability. To make the white frame around the image, I left the die cut square in the Nestability, using it has a mask, and airbrushed the blue background. The bottom two image panels were also cut and embossed with square Nestabilities. The background panel is a flourish randomly stamped with light blue ink on light blue paper. The sentiment was stamped directly on the background with Archival Jet Black.

Well, I had to come back and add another card. After running errands this morning and stopping to visit my mother, I decided I needed to do today’s Splitcoast Color Challenge. While I was working on the image, I realized that it would also fit this week’s Try a New Technique Challenge

CC160

This card is actually inspired by the movie Steel Magnolias. One of my favorite movies and one that I frequently quote. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is “You know I love you more than my luggage.” The other day I was flipping through my stamps and ran across this suitcase. Well, I just couldn’t help myself – I immediately thought of the sentiment Love Ya to go with the image.

I stamped the suitcase and started coloring it, when it occurred to me that I could layer all the travel decals. So, I stamped the suitcase out two more times and colored just the decals and cut them out. The layout of the card just came to be. I had no idea what I was doing, but did cut out circles with Nestabilities, and started working from there. At first, I had cut the middle panel to be a diamond, and then didn’t like it when I had it laid out – hence the corner panel. I was going to computer generate the rest of the sentiment – more than my luggage – for the front of the card, but when I finally found the layout, it wouldn’t work. More than my luggage can be the inside sentiment.

I finally got my SCS Color Challenge Card done today. It actually took me longer to get the pictures than it did to make the card. Why is it that some days the light is just perfect and the next it looks like crap? You don’t move a thing from the day before and still you struggle. Anyhoo, I had this brainstorm (and yes, it did hurt) to use a Cuttlebug folder and mist it with Shimmer Mist for my background. So, I guess this card also fits last week’s Try a New Technique Challenge – negative embossing.

CC159

I knew I wanted to use this image of the dragonfly with the Cuttlebug background. I stamped the image in Basic Gray, then applied a very light Sky Blue color wash over the wings and the background. The body of the dragonfly was then colored with a light gray Copic Marker. As I sat and looked at the wings, I couldn’t help myself but to reach for the Frosted Lace Stickles and paint a thin coat on both wings.

CC159 wings

For the background, I started with a piece of white cardstock and the Stylized Flower Embossing Folder. Just to experiment some, I decided to make my own Shimmer Mist using the Soft Sky reinker. I added 20 drops of reinker to a Mini Mister, a little bit of Perfect Pearls, filled the remainder of the mister with water and gave it a good shake. I then misted the embossing folder with the Shimmer Mist, placed my white card stock in and ran it through the Cuttlebug. It’s very hard to tell in the picture, but the Perfect Pearls gives the paper a beautiful pearl shimmer and has pooled in some of the areas by the embossing. After the background panel dried, I sponged Basic Gray around the edges. I started to add a sentiment to the front of the card, but I just couldn’t bring myself to cover up the background. I settled on gray velvet ribbon and a simple silver ribbon slide. The image panel is raised on mounting tape for some added dimension.

Wanna win these Rubbernecker Bucks?

RN 10 Buck

Well, since we are heading into March Madness, and the NCAA Tourney is getting ready to tip off, leave a comment on this post telling me who your pick is for National Champion. My pick, Indiana University of course! A few months ago I would have been jumping up and down — today, I’ll still pick them, but more out of loyalty than anything else!

The lucky winner will be picked by random sequence and will be announced tomorrow.

I’ll be back a little later with my Color Challenge card!

As promised earlier, here’s my Color Challenge card. When I checked in on the Splitcoast Color Challenge this morning, I have to admit – I almost didn’t do it. The colors, Sage Shadow, Orchid Opulence and Kraft, made me cringe. Not just cringe, shudder and shake. Well, after thinking about it for a few hours, and getting some other chores done, I had a brain storm – and before you say anything, YES, it hurt!

I got stampy with this card, something I don’t do enough of these days, and after the second attempt arrived exactly where I wanted.

CC158

I used a digital multimedia matte paper for the stamped panels. It’s a coated paper, works well to print photos on, however, because it is matte, doesn’t have the high gloss finish. It’s also a cover weight, which means it’s heavier than most photo paper. For the background panel I used the embossing resist technique. Before I stamped any images, I gave the paper some color, using a sea sponge, and sponged on variations of Old Paper Distress Ink and Sage Shadow. Once I had the color I wanted, I stamped the hummingbird randomly in VersaMark and used a heat gun to set it. The next step was to stamp the hummingbird again, but this time embossed with Ranger UTEE. You can see the marbled effect under the embossing.

For the image panel, I stamped the hummingbirds in VersaMark, heat set them, and using the sea sponge added the same colors as before to the panel. Before the ink dried completely, but while it was still wet, I used a sponge dauber and wiped off any excess to highlight the stamped images. I then stamped the flower image twice in Old Paper Distress Ink. For the middle flower image, I colored the image with Orchid Opulence and Sage Shadow Stampin’ Write markers, misted very lightly with water, and then stamped the image. The sentiment was stamped then stamped with Black Soot Distress Ink. For an added neutral color I chose black, to give the card some needed weight.
