Well, I have to tell you – It’s been a busy couple of days! I left here at 1:00 p.m., yesterday to pick up Mallory, and us got back home around 5:00 p.m. Luckily she got a ride just about an hour and a half from home, and I didn’t have to drive the full three hours up and three hours back. The roads weren’t too bad, and I was able to drive just about 5 miles under the speed limit. Trust me when I tell you that I’m normally about 5 miles over the speed limit, so for me that was good! The funniest part was when I pulled in the garage and my car was covered in ice. Not just ice, but droplets of ice that were about 3 inches thick and going in the direction of the wind. Darn I should have taken a picture. Anyhoo, Mallory was happy to be home and the pups were very excited to see her as you can tell from the pictures below.

Here’s Mallory snuggling with Miss Ellie.

Mal and Ellie

And then, not to be left out, Sydney had to get in the mix.

Mallory and pups

It snowed all through the night, and when I woke up this morning I just had to take one more picture from my front porch. This is one of my favorite views when it snows. This is directly across the street looking into the backyard of the house on the corner.

Saturday Morning Snow

All in all, I think we have ended up with somewhere between 12 and 13 inches. This time the snow followed the path of the Ohio River and actually got into the valley. We haven’t had a snow like this in maybe four years. Believe it or not, we have had ice storms the last three Tuesdays, and our county is out of salt. So, a State of Emergency was declared and none of the side roads have been plowed this time.

Anyhoo, I had Stamp Club scheduled this morning. It was supposed to have been last Saturday, but we rescheduled for today. Now I knew this morning that none of my group was going to go out today. We were under a State of Emergency. I began calling the Club Members and cancelling. One of them, Terri, who lives out in the next town, said hey I have 4-wheel drive and this is a stamping emergency, I’ll be there. Her sister, Bev, who lives just a couple of blocks from me, said I’ll be limping over. Well, here they are in their stamping glory.

Terri and Bev

Bad Bev is on the right and Terri is on the left. The other two chose not to get out today, and will be coming in on Tuesday to stamp with me.

I normally don’t show the project that we work on in Club, but today I think I will. They had requested to work with chipboard, and every project we did today used chipboard in one fashion or another. The following are two of the three projects we did. The layout of the first one is taken from this week’s SCS Sketch Challenge. Both Bev and Terri are members of SCS. Bev checks out the challenges and has a gallery. Terri does not and oh how I wish she did.

Stamp Club Project 2

The chipboard on the above card is the flower on the left-hand side. We used a thin chipboard coaster, Cuttlebug dies and the Cuttlebug to make the flower.

This second project, is made with two thick chipboard coasters and SU Alphabet Chipboard. Just for fun, I had them make a small book that they can carry in their purse, using the Bind-it-All.

Stamp Club BIA Project

Mallory’s ride to Florida just came in the door. I guess they’ll rest a bit and then head out to the sun, sand and surf. Such a collegiate right of passage – Spring Break in Florida! Lucky kids!!!!!

Look what’s happening at my house this morning! SNOW – Lots of SNOW!

Morning Snow

From the time I took this picture, got it uploaded and fixed, it has snowed more and more! They have forecasted 8-12 for this area. Hmmmm, it is the Ohio Valley and you can never really tell! Anyhoo, get this picture,

Ellie in the snow

Miss Ellie loves playing in the snow. She slid half way across the deck – too funny!

Now, as much as I have begged for snow, pleaded for snow, want snow, NOT today. I need to drive close to two hours away on a good day, to pick Mallory up. She’s on Spring Break next week, leaving tomorrow – maybe, for somewhere sunny and warm! Lucky college kids!

I’m gonna play the proud mom a bit this morning. Our oldest, Kate, was inducted into the Mu Psi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, last night! Needless to say, most of the family was there to celebrate such an honor with her. After the Induction Ceremony (where I couldn’t get a good picture if my life depended on it), there was a scrumptious banquet. Here are Kate and her other half, Will. Will graduates this May and is hoping to land a football coaching/teaching position. He has been coaching High School Football for his alma mater for three years now. Kate has another year, which one semester will be spent student teaching. Both of these kids work (close to full time) and carry heavy schedules. We are very PROUD of them!

Here’s Kate with her Aunt Carrie (my sister). Carrie checks in here every day – so Carrie this one’s for you!

Before I hit the road to pick up Mallory, I wanted to get to the SCS Limited Supply Challenge. I am so mad at myself over this card – I really screwed it up with the sentiment, and I honestly didn’t have the time to fix it today. BUT, I will!

The challenge today is a small card. Cards smaller than 4.25×4.25. Love making little cards, and I’ve had this idea for a few days and needed to try it. Gina K pointed out the other day that she had actually used Copic Markers on her stamps. Leave it Gina to figure that one out – or have the guts to try it! Of course, if she messes up her stamp, she does have plenty on hand.

Using the wildflower from Lizzie Anne’s In the Meadow, I colored directly on the stamp with Copic Markers, misted with Rubbing Alcohol and then stamped the image three times. I then got this wild hair that I wanted some type of background, so I found a square Nestability that fit the image, and using my Copic Airbrush System, I airbrushed the background with Cool Shadow. It left a perfect edge along the frame! Since, I had all the Nestabilities out, I went ahead and cut a scalloped edged square for my background layer. Now, here’s where I am mad at myself! I wanted a sentiment on the image, something light that wouldn’t take away from the image. I chose Old Paper Distress Ink for this, and I’ll be darned if it’s not crooked and too light – Live and Learn! The background for the card, which is 4×4 by the way, is made from scraps of BasicGrey Scarlett’s Letter. I distressed the edges and then sewed them to the card front on the sewing machine. The white dots were made with the new Inkssentials White Opaque Pen which should be available to purchase sometime soon. I’ll have to check on that!

Well, this old dog learned a new trick today! Needless to say, I’m just rather tickled, but I still have more to learn about it. The Splitcoast Ways to Use it Challenge today is to use your computer. Part of the challenge is to either generate a sentiment on your computer (which I already do), print off a template, an image or digital paper. One of the samples today was made with downloaded clipart from Microsoft. Hmmmmmm, I had to go take a look! Oh My BADness! I am in heaven!! I spent nearly an hour, just looking through backgrounds, checking them all out and saving some to my computer. The only problem is – I didn’t take the time to learn how to import them into a photo imaging software. That I will need to play with when I have more time!

Time! It is a valuable commodity here this week. Tonight I have a dinner banquet to attend with Daughter #1, and I’m on the road tomorrow to pick up Daughter #2. THEN, Saturday morning is Stamp Club and I’m still working on projects for them. I think my illness last week knocked me for a loop and I lost track of time! Of course, it hasn’t helped the last two days that I’ve actually slept a little later than anticipated and didn’t get up until around 9:00 a.m. Oh well, sometimes I’m worth it!

Let’s get to today’s card. As I said earlier, I was totally fascinated with the clipart downloads. When I finally settled on a couple to printout, I ran and got some white cardstock from the rubber room, and started printing away! The background panel behind the image, is the one I chose to work with today.

The pucker up image (which was probably meant to be lemons) became limes today. They were colored with Copic Markers and then punched out using a 2″ scalloped punch. I sponged the scalloped edges with SU Green Galore, and continued working down in layers. All the little white dots were made with the new Inkssentials White Opaque Pen. This one I happened to have picked up at CHA, and I can’t wait until they are available for purchase! I trimmed the downloaded background to the size I wanted and then matted it with a slightly larger panel of Prism Desert Coral Med paper. I trimmed the edges using Fiskars Cloud Edged scissors and added more little white dots. Once I had the card laid out, I decided that the edges of the background needed a little something. I took the thread out of my sewing machine and used it to make the piercing along the edges. The ribbon is some I had in my stash, bought on clearance some time ago. I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it, and even though the colors don’t exactly match, I love the way it looks.

As promised earlier, I’m back with my Sketch Challenge card. I so adore the sketch today and see that it will be used a lot! As a matter of fact, my Stamp Club meets this Saturday and they have asked to work with chipboard. I think I’ll work up another card for them based on my Sketch Challenge card today! I might even let this sew this time – they are such a rowdy bunch that keeping them focused is rather difficult! I’ve been afraid that one of them might sew their fingers to the cardstock –

Before I show you my card however, I promised Robbi I would show pictures of my puppies today.

Here’s Miss Ellie trying to stay out of trouble;

and here’s Sydney.

Now, for my card.

The background paper is BasicGrey Two Scoops, which I sewed to a basic card panel of yellow cardstock. Before I stitched the paper, I distressed all the outer edges and then sanded away the rough spots. The sentiment is stamped in Adirondack Espresso and then sponged with Scattered Straw Distress Ink. The flower was made by running Basic Grunge Board through my Cuttlebug with the 2×2 flower dies. I sponged the different layers with Mustard Seed Distress Ink and then lightly tapped the Dried Marigold on the top to highlight the spots. The edges were then sponged with the Dried Marigold and I lightly misted them with Dried Marigold/Gold Shimmer Mist. I found an old iridescent button in my button jar, and knew that it had to be the flower center. To assemble the flower, I used Ranger Glossy Accents and glued each layer down. Once I had them layered, I punched a hole in the center with my Crop-o-Dile, added some more Glossy Accents to the base of the button and pushed the end of the button through the hole. The leaves were hand cut, sponged with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink and then highlighted with Peeled Paint Distress Ink. The petals were glued to the sentiment panel using Glossy Accents and the flower is raised on mounting tape.
