Well, it’s taken me all day but here I am! While I was sitting here having my morning coffee, my mother called and I ended up meeting her and my sister at my aunt’s house. We made a short trip across the river and then had lunch together.

Anyhoo, Mallory has been asking me for days to make her a card. She has been teaching swim lessons all summer and one of her private lessons has been a little boy. She’s put a gift package together for him, now that the lessons are ending, and she wanted a fishy card to give him.

Using today’s SCS Sketch Challenge, this is what I came up with.

SC187

I stamped the goldfish on white paper and colored it with Copic Markers. For the background, I masked the goldfish and then sprayed the panel with Broken China/Pearl Shimmer Mist. I then sprinkled drops of water on the background to look like bubbles in the water, but alas you can’t see them in the photo. The bottom orange panel is stamped with a starfish just to add some fun elements to the card.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Good morning! This is me this morning drinking coffee from the NEW coffee pot I picked up at Target yesterday. It was such a great deal I couldn’t pass it up — $13.00 for a 12-cup Mr. Coffee! My husband said I should have bought 2 of them. I might go back and get another one at this price. Because I have coffee on all day long, coffee pots don’t last long around here. I quit buying expensive ones many years ago and get really excited when I find a great deal!

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes on a quick recovery from this darned cold I have! I’m feeling better – much better actually! However, I don’t feel like running a race or anything!

For those of you asking about Sydney — she’s doing GREAT! She’s back to running laps around the house and playing with Miss Ellie. I’d show you a picture, but she got a haircut last weekend and she’s still overly sensitive about it.

By the way, the point of my post this morning is . . . of yesterday’s Rubbernecker Gift Certificate. Post No. 17, according to the Sequence Generator at Random.org:

Hey hope you are feeling better. I love your Halloween card! I especially loved how the ribbon loooked kind of old and ratty-you are so creative.
thanks for all your wonderful ideas and inspiration.

and the author of this post — Cindy K! Cindy I’ve all ready sent you an email, but if you see this and haven’t received it, please let me know!

Well, I need to head to the stamp room. Mallory asked me to make a fishy card for the little boy she gives swim lessons too, and this is the only day I have to work on it. I’ll be back a little later!

RNBC Gift Card

Here’s how ya earns it. Leave me a comment, nothing in particular today. However, if you feel like tellin’ me a story, I’d love to hear it! I’ll pick a winner and post tomorrow mornin’.

Before I get to my card today, I do have to tell you that there is no Blogger Challenge this week. A winner for the month of July will be announced later this week however, so stay tuned!

Now, here’s my card. Well not really a card, but a tag! I was in a taggy mood last night and I couldn’t wait to try some of the techniques I picked up while watching some of the demos in the Ranger Booth at CHA.

Bat House Tag

I started with a white shipping tag and inked the tag with Spiced Marmalade, Dusty Concord and Vintage Photo Distress Inks. The edges were lightly distressed and then Black Soot was applied to the edges, softly blending it onto the tag. I misted then misted the tag with a Dusty Concord and Pearl Shimmer Mist, dabbing away the excess with a rag. Once that had dried, I sprayed a little water into my hands and then shook them over the tag leaving water droplets on the ink. The image was stamped in black pigment ink and then embossed with Disco Black embossing powder. I stamped the image a second time on white paper, embossed it the same way and cut out a few of the bats for layering on the tag. I love the way some of them hang over the edge. For the sentiment, I misted another shipping tag with the same Dusty Concord/Pearl Shimmer Mist and dabbed most of it away to leave just a hint of the color on the tag. The sentiment was stamped and embossed with the same embossing paper. The sentiment is attached to the top of the tag with brads and the ribbon was tied to a piece of hardware, fringed and frayed and then melted with a heat gun.

Have a great day today and enjoy the Treasure Hunt!

Hello! Have I told you how much I detest being sick? Well I do, especially with a head cold type of thing that goes to your chest, and then back to your head. I hate that foggy headed feeling – blech! Here’s the upside, however. I have been able to loll around on the couch for days napping, and NO ONE has said a word! They all just keeping asking how I feel and tell me if I sound either worse or better. Hey . . . wonder how long I can make this last!

I’ve had so many ideas for cards running through my head and so many new stamps that I have just been itching to use. Since this is the last day in the Splitcoaststampers Dare to Get Dirty Challenges, I so wanted to participate. I’m really bugged that I haven’t felt like stamping and taking part in these challenges. I started a card last night, had it to the point I wanted, and set aside to dry. This morning I woke up with an entirely different idea and changed the whole thing up. Of course, being on the Dirty Dozen we do get a heads up on what the challenges are, and I was trying to get a jump on Lindsey’s challenge today.

I decided to use a new set I just received, Boutique Grunge from Inque Boutique, for Lindsey’s Challenge. As I was finishing up the card and taking photos, I realized that it also fit Joan’s Challenge – SO, I have a double challenge card!!

I stamped the images in Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, and did nothing else to them, except sponge the edges in SU Pink Pirouette. For the background panel, I chose my new SU Pink Pirouette paper and stamped the butterfly in the same color of ink. After layering this panel on black, I ran it through the unthreaded sewing machine to make punch marks for faux stitching. The stitch marks are connected with an Inkssentials White Opaque Pen. I stamped the butterfly twice with Pink Pirouette and cut them out. Of course, the antennae were just a little too narrow to cut out, so I decided to stamp the image again on the base of the top panel. The first butterfly is layered flat, and the second (minus its head), is layered with the wings bent to give the illusion of flight.

  • Stamps: Boutique Grunge from Inque Boutique
  • Paper: Neenah Classic Crest Solar White; SU Whisper White, Basic Black and Pink Pirouette
  • Ink: Ranger Archival Jet Black and SU Pink Pirouette
  • Accessories: Ranger Glossy Accents and Inkssential White Opaque Pen; Sewing Machine; Ribbon; Decorative Straight Pin

That’s about it for me today! I’m going to settle in, watch the Brickyard and root for my boy Mark! I hope you guys have a great day!

Morning. I’ve been feeling under the weather for the last couple of days, and there’s not going to be any stamping here again today. I got Jeanne to the airport yesterday for her flight home, and then had breakfast with my sister, mom and some of mom’s close friends. By the time I got home I was totally worn out. Any hoo, I drugged myself up, crashed on the couch and finally around 8:00 last night went to bed. I think it’s going to be another day just like that today!

What I’ve decided to do today is share some recipes with you. This goes back to the Lizzie Anne Blog Candy post about your favorite summertime desserts. I finally got that recipe from mom for the Banana Split Cake, along with a few others.

BANANA SPLIT CAKE

Melt 1 stick of margarine in a 9 x 13″ cake pan. Blend in 2 cups of graham-cracker crumbs, and pat evenly over the bottom. In a mixing bowl, beat at high speed for 15 minutes 2 sticks of softened margarine, 2 eggs, and 2 cups confectioners’ sugar. Carefully spread this blend over the crust. Slice bananas (about 3 large ones) until you’ve a layer covering the filling. Next, drain 1 large can of crushed pineapple, and spread fruit on top. Over all, make a layer of Cool Whip (one large container will do it). Last, sprinkle on 1 cup of coarsely chopped nuts and several well-placed maraschino cherries. Cover with waxed paper and leave in fridge for several hours or overnight.

This next salad, we had at my niece’s graduation party. My stepsister made it and of course we all had to have the recipe! Mallory is planning on taking this one to a party this weekend.

BROCCOLI STRAWBERRY SALAD

4 cups chopped broccoli bite size
1/4 cup Golden Raisins
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1/3 cup shredded carrots
1 cup sliced strawberries 1/4″ thick, 3 slices each berry
1/4 cup salted peanuts

Dressing:
3/4 cup mayonnaise
½ cup powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons white vinegar

Whisk till fluffy
Toss with hands into salad.

Hope you guys enjoy these treats! Have a great day!
