Smiley from millan.net Good Saturday morning! I hope your weekend has started off with a bang Smiley from millan.net. . . mine sure has! Today I finally get to tell you my big surprise . . . . I’m the May Guest Designer for Crafty Secrets! I’ve been talking with Sandy for some time now about guest designing, and we finally got it all together. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be working with Crafty Secrets for the next month.

All week long Crafty Secrets has been celebrating National Scrapbooking Day and even though I’m coming into the game late, I wanted to play along with the Design Team today in their Photo Challenge. Vicki, Heidi, Linda, Melissa, Michelle and Flo will all be posting $50.00 Crafty Secrets Giveaways and you just need to leave a comment to be entered (and an email address in case you win).

I used a photo today from the Girlfriends Images & Journal Notes for my card.

And then the inside.

Old Friend Inside

A perfect birthday card for one of my mother to send to one of her friends!

Once I had this card together, the left top looked a little bare to me so I went searching through my button collection. I love it when I find old buttons with the thread still attached!

That’s it for my big news today . . . what a great adventure! I hope you have a fabulous weekend and thanks for stopping by! Remember, life is short . . . . Enjoy the adventures that come your way!

Smiley from millan.netGood Monday morning!  I hope y’all have a fabulous weekend and got to do what you wanted to do.  I spent both days in the studio and it great fun!  Remember back last September when I told you about my purchase of a bunch of wood cigar boxes?  No I didn’t alter a cigar box, but I did alter an old wood recipe box that I found a few months after that.  One day I was out with my sister, aunt and mom, and we decided to wander into the Peddler’s Mall, and that is where I found the recipe box.  I may have paid $2.00 for it . . . I know I wouldn’t have paid much more.

RecipeBoxFULLMarch1

I covered the box with Webster’s Pages Postcards from Paris, sanding down all the edges and then sponging on Old Paper Distress Ink.  I loved the idea of leaving some of the old wood exposed and did a quick sand on those areas to remove some of the old shellac.

RecipeBoxFRONTMarch1

May Arts Ribbon was wrapped around the outside and the twill was tied into a bow. To add a quick embellishment to the bow, I added a Trinket Pen and Philosophy Tag.  The blue bird image was mounted on illustration board for added dimension, and then the edges were sponged in Old Paper Distress Ink.

RecipeBoxTOPMarch1

The flowers on the top were die cut with Spellbinders™ Blossom Nesties from cream cardstock.  Following my Faux Porcelain Technique, each flower was dipped in melted UTEE and then stacked.

Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short – take advantage of today’s adventures!

Smiley from millan.netGood morning!  Boy do I have some exciting news to share with you today Smiley from millan.net I’ve been sitting on my fingers for weeks now and just about to burst.  I’m sure some of you have noticed that I’ve been using lots of new May Arts Ribbon from my friend Sharon Johnson’s store, The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store.  Sharon and I became acquainted when we were doing the daily challenges together on Splitcoaststampers, and that was definitely a few years back.

When I found that I needed someone to work with on May Arts Ribbon, I immediately thought of Sharon and sent her an email.  Being the darling that Sharon is, she not only let me link to her store but she also provided me with that luscious silk ribbon I’ve been using so much of.

Well let me tell you what happened a few weeks ago.  Sharon decided that it was time The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store had a Design Team  . . . and she asked me to be on it! Smiley from millan.net I am so very excited to be working with Sharon, but look at this list of designers I also get to work with.

Sharon Johnson (Stamp Simply Ribbon Store)
Deb Saaranen
Holly McMillen
Michelle Woerner
Sherry Cheever (me)

I hope you take a few minutes and visit each of their blogs today . . . you are going to see some awesome projects if you do!  We’ve all been working really hard to get ready for our reveal and trust me, you won’t be disappointed.  BUT before you start hopping away from here . . . lookie at what I did!

That beautiful background paper is from Webster’s Pages Post Cards from Paris.  Make sure you look closely because you don’t see this very often on one of my cards . . . the background is only ONE layer!  I love this paper so much that I couldn’t cover it all up.  The image is mounted on a piece of illustration board and the edges were sponged with Antique Linen distress ink.  I made a frame using Spellbinders™ S4-190 Labels Four to go under the image and used S4-114 Standard Circles – Large and S4-125 Classic Scalloped Circles – Small for the sentiment.  Look at that luscious Taupe silk ribbon . . . it feels so nice when you are working with it!  Sharon has taken the guess work out of the paper and ribbon for us, and has a special Webster’s Pages Postcards from Paris Kit.  It’s the kit that shown in the header picture at the top of this post!

  • Stamps/Images:  JustRite Custom Design Cardmaking Kit; Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage Collection Birds and Botanicals Journal
  • Paper:  Webster’s Pages Postcards from Paris
  • Accessories:  Spellbinders™ Nestabilities; 1.5” 100% Silk Taupe May Arts Ribbon

All Product Listed Above From The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store

Happy Monday!  I hope y’all had a great weekend . . . I raced all day Saturday (oh yeah my guy has the pole for the 500 . . . go daddy, go!)  Happy to see Danica is going to be in the Nationwide race as well . . . she did a great job on Saturday!  The only problem was with the broadcasters  . . . you didn’t know there were other drivers on the track.   Yesterday we played football  . . . how about you?  Bummer that the Colts lost, but am so happy for the Saints!

I remember seeing on the Moxie Fab World Blog some time ago that there was an Anne Taintor card challenge.  Now it’s no secret that I’m a huge Anne Taintor fan and some of my best cards (the pecker card) have been inspired by her.  I’ve had this challenge in the back of my mind knowing that one day I would get the perfect idea.   I think I’ve got it!

Old enough to know better

This image reminds me of driving down my boulevard on the back of a convertible (Ya-Ya style) . . . yes old enough to know better, but young enough not to give a rat’s ass!  Then the other day I received my Graphic 45 On The Boardwalk paper . . . too perfect  not to use it!

I hope you have a fabulous day and remember  . . . life is short, make the most of the day’s adventures!

Smiley from millan.net Good Friday morning!  Is it cold and snowy where you are?  Here it’s just down right cold Smiley from millan.net. I’m just not cut out for this cold weather.  I prefer shorts and sandals over sweats/jeans and boots.   I think maybe I need to find a way to purchase that private island (including cabana boys) that I want . . . OR  . . . move to somewhere that’s warm year round.  Smiley from millan.net

I hope you’re not tired of all the Christmas tags by now, because I’m continuing on with T!m’s Smiley from millan.net 12  Tags of Christmas today.  Here’s T!m’s Smiley from millan.net Tag 8 and mine below.

Tag8

Since I didn’t have a light pole stamp, I improvised and made one using different elements of the Hardware set from Crafty Secrets.  I hand drew the actual lamp part since the Hardware elements didn’t fit that part of the lamp pole.  For the music background (even though I do have vellum) I decided to photocopy a page from one of my old hymnals, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.  Yes, there was a bit of irony with the hymn and the light pole!  I thought the tag needed something else so I added a top and bottom border and the big red silk bow.  The borders were die/cut embossed with Spellbinders™ Fleur De Lis Borderabilities.   The holly swag from Just For Fun Rubber Stamps was cut down to size and then covered with Distress Stickles.

It seems I got quite a bit done yesterday  . . . I not only got Tag 8 done, but also Tag 9!  This doesn’t happen.  Here’s T!m’s Smiley from millan.net Tag 9 and mine below.

Tag9

The photo is from 1997 when my sister and I thought it would be great fun to have our picture made with Santa and give it to our mother!  So nothing would do but drag my girls along and go sit on Santa’s lap.  I think maybe it’s time we have another made  . . . we’ve all changed some since 1997!  No stamps on this card.  The paper is My Mind’s Eye – The Merry Days of Christmas and the ribbon is some of that gorgeous silk May Arts Ribbon from my friend, Sharon.  I have a few extra rusty jingle bells that I attached with Tim Holtz idea-ology Jump Rings and a Trinket Pin.  Oh one more thing  . . . I printed out the photo and mounted it on illustration board, then sponged the edges of all the paper with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

I’m getting ready to tackle the next few tags.  Patti (NWLady) asked me yesterday if I was going to put these tags on gifts.  Oh for pity sake’s no!!  They will become decorations and I’m thinking that I might pass them on to Kate.  She just purchased her first home and if she wants these tags, then they’ll probably be hers.  I’m thinking tree, wreath or swag decorations!

I hope you have a fabulous day and thanks for joining me on the BAD Side for a few minutes!
