Smiley from millan.net Good evening!  How the heck are ya?  I don’t know what’s come over me, but I sleep for a few hours, then I’m up and wide awake raring to go, then I sleep for a few more hours.  hmmm I guess it’s just nature taking it’s course . . .  .

This morning which could have been anywhere from 2 am to 5 am or 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.  See I told ya  . . . weird hours.  Anyhoo, I got this idea to finish up a pyramid image that I had done some time back.  It’s the companion to this piece Into the Looking Glass.  That one was the negative pyramid.  While I was working on the negative, I also finished up the positive.  It has been sitting on a shelf gathering dust, and I decided to use it for this project.

I also threw in the requirements for Week 11 of the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge over at Linda Ledbetter’s blog, Studio 3L.  I wish I had had the book when she first started these challenges, but alas I didn’t.  I’ve really enjoyed taking part that last couple of weeks . . .  it’s been good for the mojo.Smiley from millan.net

I was really trying to make that pink on the tag match the pink in the image, but damn it all . . . it looks like it’s a far cry from matching.  Oh well . . . things happen sometime.  I had to make make the roses red, there just wasn’t any other choice!  Oh and I also HAD to hang a little heart somewhere!

Well that’s it for today!  Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, take advantage of the adventures that come your way!

I told you yesterday that I would have a tutorial on Splitcoaststampers today.  Well it’s up and it’s all about Alcohol Inks and Faux Bleach/Batik.  You can find the written tutorial here.

Smiley from millan.net Holy cow this week has sure gone fast! Of course, I did sleep most of the week away and that might have something to do with it. Thursday was a good day without any naps so I must have caught up and I’m feeling so much better.

Since today is Friday that means that it’s also the Just For Fun® Friday Color Challenge. I really enjoyed working with the colors this week. At first I thought ewwwww what can I do . . . and then it all just came together.

Rita a/k/a Smiley from millan.net challenged us this week to use

JFFCC12

Okay, okay I know you’re saying ewwwww, but trust me . . . . give them a try! I think you’ll be surprised. We would love to have you play along with us!  You don’t have to use Just For Fun® stamps, especially if you don’t have any yet.  However, if you do play along, you might just be the lucky winner of a 25% Discount so you can go shopping!   All you have to do is make a card/project using the above colors and post a direct link using Mr. Linky on the Just For Fun® Blog.

Here’s my card!

I incorporated a few of the techniques that I learned from Wendy Vecchi last weekend. You might also recognize this sketch from Wendy’s book, “make art, studio 490 style II”. I was fascinated by her project on page 16, “you must believe.” I changed the design up to fit what I was working on, but left the general sketch as it was.

Hopefully you can see in this picture, the white shadow of the Wildflower Silhouette.

That’s one of the things I learned last weekend, stamping in white pigment and then inking over the top of it. When I had finished I felt the image was just a little to light and needed the extra pop of block to stand out on the card. Lots of over stamping using a variety of JFF backgrounds. What can I say . . . it was just way too much fun!

Now that you’ve been inspired by my card Smiley from millan.net, you should visit the other JFF Designers to see what they’ve done. Everyone has had a different take on the colors and you’ve just got to check them out.

Hey y’all!  I have a video to share with you today.  Back in December 2008, I wrote this Color Wash Faux Bleach Tutorial for Splitcoaststampers.  Recently I received an email from Beate Johns asking me if I could do a video for the tutorial.  Each week in the Splitcoaststampers Weekly Inkling, Beate revisits a tutorial someone might have missed and forgot about.  This week they are revisiting Color Wash Faux Bleach Tutorial.

I ended up with two parts to the video even though I tried to cut it down.  I at first thought I would end with the first video and edited and produced the video as such.  The more I thought about the tutorial, I knew I couldn’t stop there.  The second part contains such good information on using alcohol inks and I knew I had to share it.

So without further blabbering, here’s the first part which contains information on using Ranger Color Wash and then with water-based reinkers.

Part 2 of the video uses Ranger alcohol inks to do the technique.

I hope you enjoy them and you find something new.

Thanks for stopping by today and remember . . . life is short, don’t regret tomorrow the adventure you may have passed up today!

Good morning!  Well, I’m still trying to play catch-up with some projects I need to get done!  I think I need to get off my butt during the day and head into the studio . . .  classes to prepare for, blog hops to get ready for, and THEN I found out tonight that I have just a few weeks to get my projects ready for my class at Stampfest Orlando.  I need to make my to-do list and put it somewhere I can find it.

I’m still working on samples for my alcohol inks class and one thing I wanted to show my class is how different papers effect the outcome of the alcohol inks.  One of my favorite techniques with alcohol inks is faux bleach.  The results you get are so different than those with actual dyes.

This is the sample tag I worked on last night trying to find the right mix of stamps and inks.

Alcohol Ink Faux Bleach Tag

Its probably not what I’m going to end up with, but it’s a starting point.  The wildflower silhouette was embossed first and then the alcohol inks were applied over the top.  The grid background is stamped with a combination of more blending solution than ink to get a light detail.   After the grid was stamped, the embossing was ironed off to show the white base tag.  The image on the back of the fragment was done the same way.  For more information on these steps, you can find my tutorial here and one with color wash here.  I’ll be doing a video for these soon for you!
