Good Monday morning! I hope y’all have a fabulous weekend and got to do what you wanted to do. I spent both days in the studio and it great fun! Remember back last September when I told you about my purchase of a bunch of wood cigar boxes? No I didn’t alter a cigar box, but I did alter an old wood recipe box that I found a few months after that. One day I was out with my sister, aunt and mom, and we decided to wander into the Peddler’s Mall, and that is where I found the recipe box. I may have paid $2.00 for it . . . I know I wouldn’t have paid much more.
I covered the box with Webster’s Pages Postcards from Paris, sanding down all the edges and then sponging on Old Paper Distress Ink. I loved the idea of leaving some of the old wood exposed and did a quick sand on those areas to remove some of the old shellac.
May Arts Ribbon was wrapped around the outside and the twill was tied into a bow. To add a quick embellishment to the bow, I added a Trinket Pen and Philosophy Tag. The blue bird image was mounted on illustration board for added dimension, and then the edges were sponged in Old Paper Distress Ink.
The flowers on the top were die cut with Spellbinders™ Blossom Nesties from cream cardstock. Following my Faux Porcelain Technique, each flower was dipped in melted UTEE and then stacked.

Oh Wow this is so cool! Great job making something old, new again!
So, so pretty! I hadn’t seen the tutorial so had to go watch that. You are so smart! Does the UTEE dry with the little “holes” to add to the porcelain look or did you so something else to make that look on these flowers? I love them! I have a wood box. One day I shall try this! Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas with us.
This is so pretty Sherry. I have a thing for boxes and books. I make a lot of both. I have the Websters kit coming from Stamp Simply. Your blog introduced me to her store. Oh my I am going to be in trouble. I love her style. So elegant and simple. Thanks for sharing your beautiful box. That will be a real treat for someone.
Oh my heavens! This turned out amazing! What a great job you did. Hugs,
Miss Badness ~ You seriously need to consider to start-up your own business with all these spectacular boxes, antique postcards, and of course your amazing flowers. Ever considering putting some of them on Etsey? I for one, would love to get my paws on a few of your creations :0)
Just thought I would plant that tiny seed in your brain and hope that it sprouts (just like your hair :)) because I’m sure I’m not the only one who becomes weak in the knees at the site of your creations.
And the extra money you’d make from Etsey could be filtered back into your stamping products, or maybe a few hair cuts for the dogs and Mr. Stodgey 🙂 Heheheheee Or maybe that Carribean trip you’ve been dreaming of.
~just my 2-cents’ worth~

Another stunning creation, Sherry! Your work and wit keep me coming back for more 🙂
Talk about a yummy box — your work makes me drool, seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[…] months ago when both my girls complained that I NEVER made anything for them. So, remember this recipe box I posted last week . . . . I made that for Kate! The funny thing was, when she saw the alcohol […]
