Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings and Happy Holidays! Today is our family Christmas, and I need to get busy in the kitchen. But first, I wanted to announce the winner of the latest Tawdry Treats! According to Random.org, the lucky winner was comment #33, Robb eeie. CONGRATULATIONS!! This was her post:

Our Family Tradition began over 150 years ago, as this has been done on my Mother’s side of the family for at least that long. But not to worry, I won’t take you that far back; approximately 70 years ago, when my Mom was a young girl, every year my Nanny (aka Grandmother) would pick a special ornament from her tree, and explained the story behind it (ie. where it came from, how old it was, what it meant to her and her Mom, etc.) ….. Nanny would then pass it on to my Mom, who would then carefully wrap it and place it in her Hope Chest for her future life.

When I turned 12 yrs. old my Mother started the same tradition with me; passing forward the ornaments that she had obtained from my Nanny MANY years before. Some of the precious, delicate ornaments on my tree are well over 90-100 years old ~ I often fear that if even the slightest breeze were to go by my tree, my frail family ornaments would just turn into crystals and float away into the wind. *smile*

Now that I’m 43 yrs. old and my husband and I don’t have the blessing of children (unless you count furbabies), I couldn’t just allow this wonderful tradition to end with me. So next year our Godson will be turning 12 yrs. old, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have an extremely close and loving relationship with him. In honour of my Nanny who has passed, and my Mother who is now 80 yrs. old, I am going to carry on our Family Tradition. I will select one of my special family ornaments annually, that are priceless and exquisite, and begin the process of giving our Godson the history of each, for his future life and hopefully to pass onward to his children.

It’s such a simple thing to do or start, but holds such warm and loving memories for me. I’m sure this Tradition will continue for another lifetime, even when I am no longer here to witness :0)

As Martha would say, “It’s a Good Thing” *smile*

Happy Holidays Sherry.

Robb eeie, if you will email me with all your deets, I’ll get your package of Tawdry Treats out to you after the Holiday!!!

Thank you all for playing along with me and so many of your traditions are ones that we used to do when my girls were smaller — thanks for the reminders! My mother reminded me of one the other day too. There was one year when my nephew was on the fence about believing in Santa. My dad found a 45 record of a telephone call with Santa. It came with a book that had the script for the call, with pauses for you to talk to Santa. My dad called my nephew on the phone and played the record in the background so my nephew would think that Santa was as granddad’s house. It bought us another year or two with my nephew. After that, he played the record for each grandchild the year they started to question if Santa was real!

Of course, I still believe — it’s the magic of the Season!

Good morning ya’ll! Before I show you my card for today, there are a few things I need to remind you of:

  • Rubbernecker Stamp Company is having a huge Winter Sale Event. If you haven’t checked it out, pop on over and take a look (well, after you read my post okay?)
  • My pal, Jeanne, is giving away some awesome Blog Candy (compliments of Rubbernecker) over on her blog, Inky Paws. Jeanne will be picking her winner on Monday evening, Christmas Eve.
  • I’m still giving away some Tawdry Treats (compliments of Rubbernecker). All you need to do to win mine is leave a comment on this post, telling me about your favorite Holiday tradition. I will be picking a winner on Monday morning.

If you’ve come by today looking for the JBWW Challenge, I hate to disappoint, but – Jeanne and I have decided to take a break from the challenge for a little while.

So let’s move on to today’s card! I couldn’t resist playing the Featured Stamper Challenge on Splitcoast today. When I saw that it was Crissy a/k/a #1artist4highhopes, I knew I had to participate. I’ve admired Crissy’s work since she first started uploading on SCS! Here’s the card from Crissy’s gallery that I picked, mainly because the colors jumped out at me. As a matter of fact, that is the only thing I used from her card – I’ve changed everything else.

The background was made by sponging on Tim Holtz Distress Inks with sponge daubers and alcohol ink felt pads soaked in Alcohol Blending Solution. Once the desired background was achieved, the Travel Background was stamped in Black Soot Distress Ink, and the edges sponged. The main image was colored with Copic markers and then sponged with the same technique as the background. To get closer to the main image, a Cut-N-Dry nib was used with the Alcohol Blending Solution and picking up some color from the stamp pad. The edges of the main image were then sponged with Black Soot Distress Ink.

Good Saturday morning! I have so enjoyed reading all of your comments regarding your most memorable Christmas gift. They have all brought back so many memories for me. From Barbie dolls, doll houses, Krissy dolls and even Chatty Cathy. I still have my Chatty Cathy – her stomach is held together with reinforced tape and she mumbles when she talks, but she is still a much cherished doll. My sister had a Krissy doll with the long red hair – actually, I’m sure she still has it. My first Barbie was the one that you dyed her hair and bathing suit to match. I had a Julia doll that talked and even a Ken doll with the plastic hair. My girls played with them and just this past summer I brought them home from my mother’s house. I didn’t have a Barbie house, but I did have a stove, sink and refrigerator made out of shoe boxes. Empty thread spools were their chairs and my aunt made all their clothes. Thank you all so much for bringing back such wonderful memories for me!

I suppose you want to know who won the Rubbernecker Tawdry Treats. There were a total of 62 comments, and using the Random Sequence Generator, the 50th comment is the winner. CONGRATULATIONS Kelly aka Littlekel90!

I remember drooling over a new bike when I was 8 or 9, and finally got my very own 10-speed bike when I was 10 years old. It was the prettiest thing ever sitting there all shiny red in front of the Christmas tree. I remember riding on that thing ALL the time. ) Thanks for a chance to win those terrific goodies! Kelly

Please email me all your deets, and I’ll get the package out to you right after the Holidays!

I have one last Christmas card for you today! The image was colored with Copic Markers and then punched out and mounted on a larger scalloped circle. A small push pin was used to make the punches in the larger scallop and the edges were sponged with Tim Holtz Old Paper Distress Ink. The main image is raised on mounting tape.

RNS Dec 22 Tawdry Treat

We’ve had to start new traditions the last few years. This is our third Christmas without my Dad, and our Christmas Holidays have taken some major changes. My dad loved Christmas and was himself like a little boy during the Holidays. Oh how we miss him and his belief in the Spirit of the Holidays. Now we gather here at my home instead of my mothers and because we no longer have little kids around, we do stocking stuffers. Everyone has their own stocking, and we each buy something for everyone. We had long ago given up on exchanging gifts because our family was so large. The adults always bought for the children and enjoyed spending our time together. It’s very hard to start new traditions when you are rooted in the past, so I would love to hear more about yours! Maybe I’ll get some new ideas for next year!

Once again, I’ll be using the Random Sequence Generator, and will announce the winner on Christmas Eve morning.

HEY check this out — my buddy, Jeanne, is also having some Blog Candy today, you’ll want to hop over to Inky Paws, and see what she is giving!

Hard to believe that it’s Friday already. I’ve spent everyday out shopping or running with the girls this week. I finally found some time to stamp last night and hopefully that’s what I’m going to be doing today! Don’t forget that I’ve got some Tawdry Treats for one lucky person and you have until Saturday morning to leave a comment. I’ll be posting Saturday morning who the lucky winner is and I’ll have some more exciting stuff for you then – you definitely want to check back on Saturday!

Last month, the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen Alumni decided we would like to have a challenge using Elzybelles. It was so exciting, that past and present Dirty Girls wanted to play along. So now, each month there will be a special Dirty Dozen challenge including both current and alumni members. This month the challenge was penguins, with something icy, but no blue! You can see all the Challenge Cards uploaded this month here!

So here’s my penguin card, with something icy and nothing blue. I colored the penguin image with Copic Markers, stamped some flairs in the background that reminded me of waves, and my something icy are stickles on the surf board, in the bucket and on the ground. I wanted the sentiment “Dude, You Rock!” and had “You Rock!”, but in my laziness, I hand wrote Dude and then punched it out.

DCP1207 Penguin

Stamps: Penguin from Inky Antics; You Rock! Sentiment from Lizzie Anne Designs; Priceless from SU

Paper: Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Real Red and Basic Gray

Ink: Real Red, Basic Gray, Tim Holtz Weathered Wood Distress Ink, Brilliance Graphite Black

Accessories: Copic Markers, Brads, Ribbon, Tsukineko Sponge Dauber, Mounting Tape, Ranger Frosted Ice Stickles, Small and Large Oval Punches

Well it’s been a few days since I’ve had time to get in the studio. Both of my girls are home and we’ve been running like crazy. Today we went and had a family photo taken with Santa. We haven’t done this since my girls were in grade school. That was about 15 years ago, if not longer, and my sister, myself and my two girls had a photo taken for my mother. Today it was my sister, myself, my girls and my mother. My oldest daughter wanted to do this for her grammy for Christmas and I have to tell you it was so much fun. Of course, when Santa asked my mother what she wanted for Christmas, without hesitation she said “a new red Mercedes convertible.” BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA – for any of you that know my family, my dad is probably spinning in his grave – that’s a foreign car!

I also had our Sorority Christmas Social here Tuesday night. What a great time we had! This is also the inspiration for my Sketch Challenge card this week. I started making Lemon Drop martinis at the start of the evening and needless to say, when it came time to sing the 12 Days of Christmas there were some that couldn’t remember the words! Some in one area of the circle were singing 10 Lords a Leapin’ while the other side was singing Six Geese a Layin’ and then one would just shout out Five Golden Rings whenever she pleased. I do believe fun was had by all – Good Times!

Anyhoo, late this afternoon I finally got around to stamping this weeks Splitcoast Sketch Challenge. I used some of the Happy Hour images from Rubbernecker Stamp Company and came up with this fabulous Martini card – and yes, ours the other night were shaken, not stirred.

SC155

For the background panel, the martini shaker and sentiment, One Martini, Two Martini, Three Martini, Floor was stamped at random on a piece of olive cardstock. I used Tim Holtz Shabby Shutters Distress Ink for the shaker and Peeled Paint Distress Ink for the sentiment. I also stamped the sentiment on the white panel behind the circles but then I used Shabby Shutters and off-stamped twice before stamping on the background. The edges of both the background panels were sponged with the Shabby Shutters as well as the larger oval in the main sentiment. For the circle images, I stamped them out in Adirondack Pitch Black and then colored with Copic Markers. I was in a little hurry today – so no water coloring. I have to tell you that I got a little carried away with stamping the sentiment on the background and sometimes it looks blurry – well it is but I left it. I think of few of us were seeing like that on Tuesday night!

Now, if you are still with me, I’ve got some Tawdry Treats for someone today. Here’s what you need to do – leave me a comment telling me about one of your favorite gifts that you got for Christmas as a child. I’ll start! When I was about 10 years old, all I wanted was a bowling ball. Every word that came out of my mouth was about a bowling ball – of course, I was bowling in the junior leagues and hated using a house ball. We didn’t have tons of money then but wow was I surprised Christmas morning when there was a blue and green swirly bowling ball in a pretty blue and white bag under the tree!

On Saturday morning one lucky person will win this Kris Kringle, Star Garland and sentiments from Rubbernecker Stamp Company.
