Oh my Badness! It’s the end of Day 3 of the Rubber Room Remodel and I am literally crawling on all 4’s. There isn’t a muscle in my body that doesn’t ache and I ruined a pair of my favorite flannel pants. I don’t know when it happened today, but I completely ripped the seat of my pants out. I remember getting caught on something, but thought that was just it – I got caught. Sometime early evening, I was feeling a little cold. There was this slight breeze on my legs. Well duh, the pants were ripped all the way down to my knee! I so hope that I didn’t rip them in the shed today and all the neighbors got a great view of my butt. No one screamed so I guess I didn’t scare them!!!

Back in the mid-1980’s my grandfather gave me a Hoosier Cabinet. Lance and I had just moved to Lexington, Kentucky and I needed something for storage. I always thought my grandfather had built the cabinet, but he actually bought it for someone in his family. My grandfather worked at the old Scheirich Cabinet Company in Louisville, retiring in 1972. I used it for a desk for a few months, and then I got the bright idea to strip the cabinet and refinish it. I took the cabinet out to my dad’s business (where Lance worked), and started trying to refinish it. Little did I realize that the cabinet was pine and really wouldn’t make a pretty finished piece. Shortly after starting on the cabinet, I became pregnant with Kate, and never went back to the business to finish up. Little did I know, Lance had moved the cabinet outside and it was sitting in the weather. We moved to home to Jeffersonville and I made him get the cabinet and bring it along. While we rented in an apartment, it sat in storage and then when we purchased our house, it was put in the shed in the backyard. The drawers and cabinet fronts have been stored in the basement for close to 21 years. I’ve pulled the cabinet out of the shed a few times and sanded on it, but the task was so daunting, that I just couldn’t face it.

Well, today I finished the cabinet. Well, at least it is painted and ready to assemble tomorrow. I had made up my mind that I NEEDED this cabinet in the new Rubber Room. I started carrying the cabinet into the house this morning. Luckily it had never been put back together properly, and I could carry it in 3 separate pieces. It definitely shows water damage, but for my purpose it will work. I feel so horrible that it has taken me all these years to finish this cabinet, and that something that my grandfather gave me is in such bad shape. However, the cabinet is painted and hopefully he would be happy with that! I’m quite sure though, that he would not be happy with the shape the cabinet is in.

Anyhoo, this is what I have accomplished today. Not much to look at right now, but I am rather pleased with myself!

Cabinet Top

The spot in the cabinet that is not painted, was left the way it originally was. A flour bin hangs in this spot, and the bin pulls out from the top.  Another bad thing is that the fabric on the back of the roll top has dry rotted, so it doesn’t want to work.  But that’s okay!

Cabinet Base

I’m at the end of Day 2 of the Rubber Room Remodel. I didn’t get as much done today as I had hoped, however I did finish painting the room. I ran an errand with Kate this morning, we had brunch after and then headed to Kmart. I had seen a table in the store last week that I thought would make a great work area and when I opened the store sales ad on Sunday it is on sale. Luckily they had one left and it found its way into the trunk of my car.

Here’s a picture of the whole grouping, but I only purchased the table.

Farm Table

My goal tomorrow is to paint an old bookcase and start painting an old cabinet that I have stored in the shed.

For a little humor, I’m going to share a card that I made a few weeks back and haven’t posted. On the outside the card says, You know you’re old when . . . and on the inside . . . you and your teeth don’t sleep together. I was telling my mother about this card the other day, and there is no doubt in my mind that she’ll end up with it.

Jan 222008

Hey ya’ll! I spent the day painting today and since I have babbled on and on about being out of space in my studio, I felt it was only fair that I share this adventure with you. I know you’ve all read that my oldest daughter has moved out and I’m taking over her bedroom. As you will see from these pictures, she hasn’t entirely moved out (that is her aquarium and desk). The desk she is taking I found out tonight and it looks like I might acquire the aquarium.

So envision an L-shaped room in the corner of a basement. There are three very dirty windows that I cannot get open to clean, which will definitely be covered with something. I’m thinking something sheer to at least let some light in. We’ll see what I can find at Big Lots – I’m on budget decorating.

Anyhoo, what I’ve got to show you are before and after pictures. The room as had a primer coat and one base coat. I know it needs at least one more coat if not two.

This area is the top part of the L and where I will set up my workspace.

Day 1 WS unpainted

Can you believe that color of blue? A color Kate picked out some years ago when the room was built.

Day 1 WS painted

Now this is when you first walk in the room – or the end of the L. There are two closets on the left wall. One is a walk-in closet that has some tremendous storage.

Day 1 Storage unpainted

The other door, painted the same color as the wall, is a huge storage closet. It also holds the pump for our well. We haven’t used the well in years, and I have my Christmas decorations stored in this closet. My plans are to have a table here for my Stamp Club to work at. Well for that matter, anyone who wants to come stamp with me will now have a place to work.

Day 1 storage painted

This last picture is looking at the end of the L-shape that enters into the other part of basement.

Day 1 entrance painted

Hopefully tomorrow I will get the painting of the room done, and can move onto painting some old furniture I’m moving in.

Well the weekend is just about over, and I hope everyone has had a good one so far. I spent yesterday getting my new room ready to paint – WOO HOO! I need to take Mallory back to school tomorrow, which will be a day long trip, so that means no stamping time for a while. My plans are to start painting the new room Tuesday and hopefully get moved in this coming week. It may not be the exact way I want it, but that will come about eventually. The goal is to get moved before I leave for CHA in February.

Anyhoo, today might be the last day for a while that I actually get some stamping in. I checked out the Featured Stamper Challenge on Splitcoast this morning and decided it might be fun to play along. The idea of this challenge is to pick a card from the Gallery of the Featured Stamper to case, but you must change two or more items on the card and give credit to the Featured Stamper. Today’s Featured Stamper is KathyC, and this is the card from her gallery that I cased.

I flipped the layout making the top the bottom, added a few embellishments and used a different stamp set.

FS50

The image was stamped in Adirondack Pitch Black and then colored with Copic Markers. I added some Ranger Crystal Stickles to the ribbon and the Dot background was stamped in Lemonade ink on pale yellow cardstock. A white Signo Gel pen was used for the faux stitching and dots.
