Good rainy Monday morning!  I don’t think our rain is ever going to end . . . at least for this week it’s here to stay.  If you watch the weather and see the Ohio Valley line and see Louisville, KY on the map . . . that’s me.  I’m right across the river in Indiana and all I can say  . . . it’s wet!

I remember in 1997, March 2 to be exact.  It was Kate’s birthday and I had planned a huge skating party for her.  It started raining and didn’t stop.  All the roads and low lying areas flooded and the river was rising.  By the end of day we were moving my parents out of their home on the river.  It takes the river to rise 28 feet to be over the wall to be in the yard.  Their house was higher than most and it took another 4 feet to be in the upper portion of the house.  It ended with 4 feet of water in their house and the clean up was horrendous.  I don’t think the river is going to be that high when it crests this week, but it is expected to be 4 feet over the wall.   I am so glad my mother has finally sold the river house and Kate and Will have moved from there.  This is the first year in I don’t know how long (I can’t remember the first year my parents spent on the river, but I’m guessing early 80’s) that we won’t have to mess with moving stuff up and/or out of the house.  Can you hear my big sign of relief.

My studio is still gathering ground water and I have a line of beach towels holding it back.  When they get soaked, I replace them with dry ones and bring the wet ones up to take a spin in the washer and then the dryer.  They keep rotating periodically through out the day.  Luckily our power outages have not been as bad as the first day (14-16 hours I think).

I haven’t been getting the studio time that I’d like to have over the last week (because of the weather) and this has put me way behind on projects that need to be completed by the end of this week.   On Saturday, when my girls were at the movies, I did sneak in a little time (before the water got so bad again) to create a quick card.  Well I shouldn’t say quick because it took me all day, but only because of the water and switching towels, etc.  This is the project I have to share with you today.

April25Birds(5)

I used one of the bird images from the JustRite Back Yard Birds set and some of my new Melissa Frances paper (5th Avenue).  The image is colored with Copic Markers and the paper was all sewn to some Core’dinations cardstock.  Of course, you’ll also see many different Spellbinders™ die templates.

I’m going to finish my morning coffee and then head down to the studio to check on the towels and hopefully work some.  I’m trying to avoid bringing stuff upstairs to work because I know I won’t have all that I need at any given time . . . and I just can’t work like that!

I hope you have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Flood Water I hate it,, so much work and your body is drained, been thru it 2x and lost everything in my lower level. Glad for electricity for you. Weather has been miserable a lot of places. Prayers that things settle down.

  3. A beautiful card for today, Sherry. I hope that your wet season soons turns around for you. I lived in a house that flooded and I know how hard it is for cleaning. Do you want me to send more towels? I would, you know.

  4. Must be absolutely exhausting! Your card is very pretty though. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Oh Sherry, this is just gorgeous! Love the colors and the image you used also.

  6. Oh, Sherry! I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with the almost-flood waters! I know it’s awful!!
Seems like a good thing after all that we weren’t chosen for RangerU, doesn’t it?
Your card’s very pretty! I love the colors! Some day soon, hopefully, we’ll both be back to our creative selves. Keeping you & yours in my prayers!

  7. your card is very pretty! As for your rain and flooding I cannot imagine. Today is a beautiful blue sky with the sun coming out 🙂 I hope it dries out soon for you.

  9. Bless your heart Sherry! The card is beautiful. Hope the rain stops soon, that just sucks….

  10. Lovely card! I hope your water gets under control real quick! That is such a job trying to keep the water out! I’m thinking about you!

  11. I enjoy you blog and this card is especially lovely.
I like the image and embellishments. I hope the rain lets up for you all. I live in Texas and we sure would like for you to send some rain our way. 🙂

  12. A very lovely card! What a sweet bird image! I so admire the dies that you used…gorgeous! I pray for the rain to end soon! I’m here in NW Ohio. My sinuses and head are so feeling this damp rainy weather. I say it’s time to END…amen…lol. You take care!

  13. Darling card and such pretty colors! I was thinking maybe you would use the bleach technique… I feel your pain about the damp basement. New(to me) house and yard and huge new water issues, but I am ever so grateful my studio is on the first floor and my laundry is in that basement – – who needs clean unmentionables, anyway? Here’s to sunshine and blue skies for all of us REAL soon.

  14. That’s a beauty Sherry … wish I could say the same about the rain. Guess I should not complain about the constant rain here since we don’t have any flooding or water level troubles. Hope things calm down there, VERY soon.

  15. Love the dies you used on this card and how you layered them. Off to get more dies! Thanks for the inspiration.

  16. Your card is beautiful as always. These birds have got to be trying to tweet in a soggy tree.
Oh Sherry, we are going to have to start building a boat if the water does not go down in Louisville soon. Between storms, wind and rain I think we have had enough. Hopefully we will be dry for the Oaks and Derby. All the race horses are sure getting their little hoofs wet right now. Stay safe and dry.

  17. sorry to hear about all your water woes, but sounds nice that you won’t have to worry about your family being too close to the river anymore. We only have a crawl space but we have a sump pump down there and it is running over time down here too, I am across the river in IL just across from St. Louis.
Lovely card, neat layering of the dies and such pretty coloring of your image.
