Well it’s Tuesday, and I’m still Sydney sitting while Kate works. Not easy to get stamping done when you’ve got a puppy under your feet every time you turn around. Poor thing almost got stepped on a couple of times this morning! It’s also Color Challenge day on Splitcoast. Cool colors today. I didn’t think I was going to like them, but hey – not too bad together! Today’s Challenge is to use Cool Caribbean, Cranberry Crisp, More Mustard and Old Olive (optional). Best of Cluck just happened to be out on my counter this morning, so that was the first set I reached for. The image is stamped on watercolor paper with Black Stazon and then water colored with reinkers. Once again I used Flannel Plaid as my background (think I probably need to look for some more rustic background stamps). Instead of brads today, I used twine in each of the corners, and then ran it around the layer, tying it off on the right side. Had some little spools of wire that I thought might add an interesting look, and wrapped a few pieces of that around the twine. The Happy Birthday tag is made using a piece of scrap of the watercolor paper, punched out with the word punch, hand wrote the sentiment and then layered. Ran a little piece of wire through the top and attached it to the twine. Most of the edges have been distressed using the edge of my little scissors and then sponged with Ranger Walnut Distress Ink. Little different for me today, but it was fun just playing around.

Well, I have sorority tonight. It’s a pitch-in dinner so I guess I better be heading off to Meijers to get the stuff to make deviled eggs! While I’m there, think I’ll look for some blog candy too!!! Hope everyone has a great day today!

What a Day!

So what started out as a day fully devoted to stamping, did not go exactly as I had planned. First, it’s spring break here which means the girls are running in and out doing their thing, which is okay, they’re staying busy! I started the morning early, got my shower and ready for the day (very unusual for me the last few months). Decided I needed to check my emails and then got on Splitcoast to check out the daily challenge. It wasn’t posted yet, which meant that I had a little stalking time – a good thing! Today’s challenge is the Try a New Technique, TLC109: Emerging Color. You’re supposed to change some solid images in a couple of different colors on white or vanilla cardstock. Then, stamp some other images randomly over the other using Versamark and emboss with clear EP. Next, you are to brayer a darker color over the cardstock until you have the desired look you are after. Okay, I tried it! Once, twice, three times – needless to say, each result was worse than the first. I will keep trying this one. It’s now going to be a personal challenge for me!

So, I thought okay it’s near the end of Divine Secret Sisters, and I really need to get my reveal together for my Little Sis! Now I’m sure you are thinking surely she’s not going to post it here – hehe – yes I am! But, while working on this card (boy my trash bin is FULL today), the studio was getting a little warm. It reached 85 degrees here today and I haven’t put the window AC unit into the studio yet. I knew there were some old screen doors in the basement and with any luck one of them would fit my garage door. That way I could raise the garage door, open the patio door and open the door leading into the garage and get a quite decent breeze through the studio without letting in any bees or bugs! So I trot down to the basement, open the storage room door and slide across the floor! Yep a big ole water leak in the workshop. Don’t know how long it had been leaking, just a fine mist spraying all over a junction box, running down the walls and a small pond on the floor. Now being the creative person that I am, I pick up the phone and call my friendly (on retainer) plumber. He’s here within the hour and two hours later I have fixed water pipes in the basement. Whew what a day so far and it’s now 3:00 p.m.

Now of course, the girls had been out shopping, came running in the house around 2:00 or so – aack no water! Need showers, dates, all that good stuff. We sit down to watch a little Reba. Did you know Reba is on at 4:00, 6:00 and sometimes 8:00? Off and on, I’ve been hitting the studio putting a little touch to this card and that card, doing laundry and chatting with the girls. Okay at 7:00 right after Reba goes off, I head back to the studio determined to get some stamping done! Here it is!!!!

Using 140 lb. Watercolor paper, I stamped the images in Black Craft ink and embossed with Disco Black EP (adds just the right amount of sparkle) and then water colored the images with reinkers. The edges of the main panel were sponged, just a little, with Certainly Celery Ink and then layered, layer upon layer. For the background layer, I stamped Flannel Plaid in Certainly Celery on Certainly Celery and then layered that on white. Wrapped some ribbon about the background panel and punched a couple of holes with my crop-o-dile in the top panel to tie a bow in. The card measures 5½x5 ½.

So I’ve gotten a number of emails already that you are having problems with commenting. We are going back to the old template until things can be worked out regarding the comments. Hate this, but I’d rather offer you up some blog candy than play with setting up the blog!

New Look

I’m in the process of having a new blog banner made and needed to switch to a different template. If you find that you cannot leave a comment (which you’ll now find the comments at the top of the posts – just click on comment), please send me an e-mail. Since I hit 5,000 posts this weekend, I want to offer up some blog candy but I also want to make sure that I don’t have a comment problem first. Can’t have blog candy without comments can we!

Also want to take a moment and thank all my readers! I’ve received so many great emails that you are enjoying what I’m writing about and are excited to see me blogging! I have had a special request to write a tutorial on the one layer card with the sentiment done on the computer, and I’ll have that this upcoming week!

Normally, I don’t have time to do the weekend challenges on Splitcoast but today’s Inspiration Challenge was just too good! The minute I saw the inspiration piece, I knew that I had to use Doodle This and Doodle That. Now I’ve been playing with these two sets for the last couple of days, and everything I’ve done has ended up in the trash bin. I went with a different approach today. First off, the base of the card is 140 lb. watercolor paper and the images are stamped directly on the card. Yep, Miss Layers here has once again done a one layer card! Using reinkers, I got my favorite water color brushes and went to work – I’m pretty pleased with the results, except for that ribbon (which might be replaced a little a later).
